I echo the sentiments re Mohaayed. Such a shame and i think he was being plotted for this race too

At this stage i like the old timer Tobefair. 11 years young now but has solid course form and is slowly coming down the weights, hopefully enough to nab a place.
Just seen this competition and I will join in the fun if that’s ok.
Gold Cup
Native River e/w 40/1 – Bet365Champion Hurdle
Epatante 9/4 – Bet365Champion Chase
Duc Des Genievres e/w 33/1 – Bet365Nap: Envoi Allen. Not very original but i can’t see a chink of weakness in him. Good temperament, travels well, jumps well, quickens well, unbeaten etc.
Lay: Chacun Pour Soi. No doubting his ability but he’s fragile and things will have to go smoothly in the build up and during the race too. He’s too short for me.
E/W: Black Tears in the Coral Cup. Clear second last year to Dame De Companie so could argue not a very original selection either. Slightly higher mark this time around but not by much and i don’t see another future graded winner lurking in the betting for this. 40/1 excellent value imo.
I’m itching to bet Mohaayed for this but i’m greedy and 25/1 seems just a touch too short this far out.
I hope Goshen wins this and wins well. It would be nice to see a top class Champion Hurdle for the first time in a while.
As Sky Pirate goes in the 2 mile chase earlier on the card, I’ve gone for what i hope is the solid option with Cepage 10-1, win only.
Also had a small ew nibble on Benatar as i thought 25/1 is very fair, even off the back of a long layoff.

You’d think it’ll be soft at best come Saturday so, with that in mind, i’m binning Benatar for now and same goes for Saint Sonnet. I don’t think he stays the trip on soft ground.
It’s between Coole Cody And Sky Pirate for me
You’d think that might be a bit ‘obvious’. Then again, a lot of trainers are creatures of habit so it’s worth keeping an eye on.
Well done winners. I always tell myself to back horses proven over course and distance in this, only to be suckered in by an up and comer. That said, i was utterly convinced approaching 2 out that my 14/1 bet on Senior Citizen was about to skate in but he sadly didn’t get home in the soft conditions. He’s handicapped to win a good pot on better ground.
Just seen the heated interview between Lydia and Nicky on Racing TV regarding the withdrawal of Altior. Nicky was as angry as i’ve seen him when repeating that horse welfare comes before anything else. He is, of course, absolutely right and i doubt anyone would argue with that. The wider point is that Cheltenham is clearly seen by most trainers as the be all and end all of the jumps season. Personally I can’t see how that is healthy for National Hunt racing. Small field graded races are now the norm between October and February. The big horses, especially in England, tend to avoid each other before March.
It’s 3 months until the festival yet Altior didn’t run yesterday with Cheltenham the primary reason, rather than welfare per se. He’d have run if it was the Champion Chase yesterday.
Looks a competitive race and there will be plenty of these plotting Christmas and/or spring pots so i’m not getting involved in the race betting wise. I am however keen to see how Low Sun gets on off the back of a lengthy absence. He won the Cesarewitch for me at 33/1 a couple of years ago and has only run once since. He’s still only 7 though so he’s very much on my radar for something like the Pertemps if he can stay sound.
Well i expected Didero Vallis to be popular each way but to go from 33/1 into 6/1 fav…

I’m happy with 14/1 for Senior Citizen and won’t now be backing anything else each way.
This looks set to be a cracker. A clear no bet race for me but will be watching with intrigue. I can see it being a furiously run race.
Excellent tribute to a fine horse, Grass. None of these brave horses deserve to be listed in such a sad subdivision (for want of a better word) of this forum.
Don’t ask me why but i keep coming back to Benatar for this. Been off the track ages, doesn’t settle, didn’t impress in his Newbury gallop. What’s not to like?

Yeah i’m with you on Allart, VtC. He’s one i’m hoping may even progress into a champion hurdler, although i was disappointed to hear that chasing is mooted for him at some stage. Must every horse be sent over fences these days?..
His run in the Supreme was very encouraging considering he looked raw in all of his previous starts and he should be an even better horse this year. I’d rate him considerably higher than Edwardstone.
Not very original but Walk In The Mill for me. Solid option who’ll embrace the slog in the forecast soft ground.
I can see why many fancy Le Breuil and Coo Star Sivola but i can’t trust either enough to back them.
