Morning all. Best day of the year is upon us!
Old Park Star NAP (Talk The Talk)
Lulamba (Jax Junior)
Quinta Do Lago WELLY & Pourquoi Pas Papa (Mustang Du Breuil)
Leave Of Absence NB (Johnnywho)
Lossiemouth (The New Lion)
Booster Bob (Madara)
Iceberg Theory (King Of Answers)Best of luck
There is something about King Rasko Grey that makes me think there is loads more to come. It might be next season over fences but he’ll be carrying my money in this
Nap: Regent’s Stroll (Novice Handicap)
Lay: Teahupoo (Stayers)
E/W: Quinta Do Lago (Fred Winter)I’m leanings towards Leave Of Absence, definitely if there is any ‘good’ in the going description. I think he should be a lot shorter than 20s.
The two mile division, by far the best division in terms of a spectacle, has been dying for a while. Many things to blame, one of which is the lack of good flat horses giving it a go but the main issue is breeders being hell bent on churning out soft ground plodders. If I were ever lucky enough to make a fortune and get in the game as an owner, I’d only be interested in Champion Hurdles and Champion Chases. I’d leave the Gold Cup to the slower horses.
Back on topic, I’ll be backing Lossiemouth but not yet. I can see her being subjected to the dreaded Superboost curse come Tuesday morning.
Quinta Do Lago a fair bet for me. Always look out for Jessie’s runners at big festivals and this horse was a good third behind two Triumph shorties last time out. Strong pace and a stiff finish should suit and first time cheekpieces might sharpen up his jumping which he’ll need to do. 33s each way (6 places)
Winner did it well and looks the type who will be even better over fences.
Happy with each way returns from Gee Force Flyer who will also improve hugely for fences. Two really nice types for Olly Murphy.
Big fan of this race myself and Gee Force Flyer is my only bet of the day, each way 22/1 (5 places).
Win: Rubber Ball
E/W: MesserschmittCheers.
I’ve backed King’s Bucks’s each way at 33s NRNB.
De Bromhead usually has his team cherry ripe come March and this is a horse that will certainly improve for 3 miles. He has a profile not dissimilar to Minella Indo who also won this race as a maiden hurdler at a big price.
Win: John Barbour
EW: No Ordinary Joe
Reserve: De Temps En TempsJust spent an hour looking at this and Jingko Blue was the standout for me as well VtC. Bet365 go 33s without NRNB and that’s tempting. Will hold off for now though, although might not be wise doing so. I can see him plunging if he’s mentioned in a stable tour or confirmed as going to the race.
Edit: talked myself into taking the 33s each way.
I’ve had a crack at Act Of Authority for this at 20s. Qualified back in November with a perfect 4th to Haiti Couleurs and has been minding his mark ever since. Rattled up the hill last year for 2nd in the Martin Pipe behind Woodhooh and there is more improvement to come at 3 miles.
I’ve cashed out for a small loss. Olly Murphy has confirmed he heads to the Martin Pipe instead.
Stellar Story has always hinted that he would relish marathon trips. He has the class to lay up with the early pace and shouldn’t be found wanting for stamina. 50s on the nose.
Lulamba is not unlike Altior in that he looks like he wants further but I don’t think he does. Raw, naive and a bit green still, he is riddled with ability and I will be with him in the Arkle.
Well done to those who got wins or each way returns.
I think the winner will make a smashing chaser next season too. The ground was desperate yesterday so there is a question mark over him having the pace and class to step into grade one company in fairness. No question that his performance yesterday was exceptional. He made a mockery of an extremely valuable handicap.
Win: Dance And Glance
