A couple of possibles coming to the fore over the weekend
Jagwar – might need a trip and Paul Kealy has backed him for it.
Quebecois – I’d be more interested in this because he needs one more run to qualify and if Nicholls can place him so that his young chaser doesn’t win with his head in his chest, then something around his anticipated mark of c139 ( currently 135 prior to his nose second at the weekend ) would be very interesting
His better form of last season is reading quite well.February 6, 2026 at 01:03 #1753636Had first go in this, with the frustrating Johhnywho, but got a few more I’m very interested in, but will wait until entries
Johhnywho 20’s NRNB
Final Decs
What a line up
Very difficult for me leave out Blaze The Way, and Iroko, but had to draw the line at three.
Already with Johnnywho, one of my biggest bets of the week, and added Imperial Saint and Eyed
Imperial Saint hardly hammered for last time, and had my eye, erm, on Eyed for a while, but never thought I’d be betting him in this
Eyed 66’s EW7Pls
Imperial Saint 25’s
Johnnywho 20’s NRNBFebruary 9, 2026 at 12:18 #1754050No doubting Jagwar’s engine, but that slightly-stiff backed jumping style not only makes him prone to a significant error, each leap takes a bit more energy than jumps by more athletic rivals. I suspect that energy drain was what found him out late last time rather than too short a trip. Having to tackle ‘extra’ fences is likely to tire him even more.
February 15, 2026 at 20:32 #1754916Quebecois entered at Newbury over 2 miles on Tuesday
Might mean they’re thinking of the Jack Richards but we’ll seeFebruary 16, 2026 at 10:14 #1754941Think Quebecois might already be qualified for the Jack Richards but needs 4 chase runs for the Ultima. Nicholls has been alluding to the Ultima as the race that the owner sponsors. Would have a great chance imo.
February 17, 2026 at 12:34 #1755032Yeah, i was just thinking about the drop back in distance but it’s possibly a method of preventing an emphatic victory and keeping his mark down for the Ultima
There are horses fairly short in the market for this who probably won’t qualify

” Bing…bong. Could Paul Nicholls please come to the Stewards Room. Now. “
February 18, 2026 at 12:14 #1755119The perfect ride!
February 19, 2026 at 12:27 #1755184(inquiry was held into running and riding; jockey stated that his instructions had been to sit handy but it became apparent to him relatively quickly that gelding did not have the pace to go with leader and eventual winner of race, in ground officially described as soft, which was more testing than ideal for gelding, a fact which he reported at scales; he further added he felt that gelding would further appreciate a step up in trip to 3m) (op 4/11)
That’s a jockeys version of a Yes, Prime Minister excuse
Pic Roc is interesting, as is The Enabler if he’s not going for the Plate
February 21, 2026 at 20:33 #1755806Ben Pauling has napped Handstands for this, if he lines up, as he thinks he’s a Ryanair horse.
February 21, 2026 at 20:37 #1755807Which begs the obvious question: why isn’t he running in the Ryanair, then, Ben? 🤔
February 22, 2026 at 13:56 #1755909He might.
It’s discussed in the Tattersalls Preview with him, Gordon Elliott, Robbie Power and Ger Hannon on YouTube
They seem quite sweet on Spinningyarn for the Albert Bartlett
February 22, 2026 at 21:25 #1755957Could not resist Filanderer at 80/1 NRNB. He will probably go for the Veteran Final at Haydock, but if he would sneak in at 128 he might surprise. Something changed for him last year and he won 3 chases with double digits.
Filanderer 80/1 NRNB
February 23, 2026 at 21:38 #1756046Blaze The Way 33-1 ew
The form of his win at the December meeting has held up well and his rating of 146- assuming the handicapper doesn’t depart from the assessment for the National weights- rules out the NH chase. He’s entered in the Plate too but this son of Getaway out of an Old Vic mare stays every bit of the Ultima trip.
February 25, 2026 at 17:40 #1756315Which begs the obvious question: why isn’t he running in the Ryanair, then, Ben? 🤔
His comments were more circumspect than “napping Handstands for the Ultima” by my read. He might run in Ryanair if one or both of Fact to File and Gaelic Warrior go to Gold Cup. He thinks he’d be worth his place in a Ryanair, but also reckoned his handicap mark is very workable and fancies taking on the Ultima with it.
February 25, 2026 at 18:00 #1756329I’ve covered Handstands for this now but have tastier prices n the Ryanair
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 26, 2026 at 12:16 #1756408Teetonmil98 – napped it IF HE LINES UP.
