Medaayih is my main pick – she was amazing at Chester – but I think Anapurna is a little overpriced, so I’ve bet her as well.

Running Rain – I know the Lord Clyde certainly used to show the racing.
Anyway, it’s between the first two in the betting for me and, while Telecaster certainly won a decent race, it was impossible not to be impressed with Sir Dragonet’s performance at Chester.

As I’ve said before, I’m a fan of Tout Est Permis. However, I think his weight today will be a bit too much – I’d wished they’d kept him for the Punchestown Gold Cup – but I wouldn’t put anyone off backing him. He’ll probably hose up now!
Anyway, my three against the field are
Valseur Lido
Measureofmydreams
Shady OperatorBear in mind I back the winner of this race every three years…and I had General Principle last year. Make of that what you will.

I couldn’t not back Tiger Roll again, so I have.
The other horse I’ve always thought could be a real National contender is Elegant Escape. It all depends on wlthe weight, of course, but he’ll be old enough next year and is well worth a go at 50s, I think.

I do like a good Irish staying handicap, so this is a bit of a treat.
Of the horses at the head of the market, Tout Est Permis is the one that stands out. Yes he’s young, but he has the most potential to outrun his rating. He’s in the hands of a trainer who’s usually at his best at this time of year, so he’s on my list.
After timing alert – both General Principle and Spider Web have done me favours this year. That said, I’m looking at horses they beat.
Arkwrisht was rather unlucky in the Irish National. He was going over a short trip last time and ran well despite that. This is more in his range, and he’s worth a go.
The Horse With The Very Irish Name was only just pipped by Spider Web last time. There seems to be more of a weight gap, and I’ll be figuring that being trained by an unfashionable trainer has distortes the market there somewhat. Put it this way – would he be 25s if he was trained by Elliott/Mullins/Morris/Meade? Nope.
So, my three are
Tout Est Permis
Arkwrisht

After having a largely dreadful flat season, it was nice to get a winner early on in the jumps!

For some reason, this race always feels like a harbinger of the season itself. Looking through it, I lie the looks of Spider Web and Without Limites – both EW, of course!

Do we think it’s a shame Laurens isn’t running in this? I certainly do, she’d have had a big, big chance.
Oh well! Am I the only one who likes the look of Perfect Clarity? Doesn’t seem to be a lot wrong with her.

I’m an old softie, so Vicente.
I’m a member of the TYM Cliff Horse Club, so him
Silsol looks the most interesting out of the rest.

It’s early doors yet but when the man who first tipped One For Arthur and the man who second tipped Tiger Roll both mention a horse for the Grand National it behoves me to listen, so my first speculative bet for next year’s National is Missed Approach.
Also, he may not be going to win five Gold Cups at any point soon, but Elegant Escape looks like the sort of horse who’ll stay and stay and stay, so he’ll be carrying some of my money, too.
Tiger Roll? 100s for the Gold Cup is silly, and he’s worth an each way punt for that. If he were mine, that’s where I’d send him. Right now, he’s not going to be on my shortlist, but I fear that, if he runs at Aintree next year, I won’t be able not to back him.

I Just Know has the sort of credentials to deliver the goods. The same goes for his stablemate Delusionofgrandeur, who I’m chuffed to see sneak in.
As discussed upthread, Houblon Des Obeaux will stay and will enjoy the ground.
And I couldn’t not back dear old Saint Are for a place.

Might Bite is the horse with the fewest question marks around him, so he’s my main bet.
As per Joe’s posts, SDR is WAY too big. And I’m an old romantic who would LOVE to see Nicholls back in the winners enclosure.
I also love Tea For Two, even if this ain’t his course.

I seem to recall UDS rather liking the mud. I’ve always had him down as an interesting King George contender. But the time to back him has passed, IMHO.

The races to get rid of
*Brose Clothers
*Fred Winter
*The Artist Formerly Known As The Neptune
*The Kim Welling Fluke Mure
*The Cross Garden Centre
*Martin Pipe
*Coral CupBy doing so, we’ve got a handicap, a novices and a Championship race for all the relevant divisions, plus the Foxhunters for the amateurs and the two Mares races for the laydeez.

With a quieter campaign I could see BC doing something big next season. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of him.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see EE put a big race in in a national one day.
Congratulations to the first two. I think this was one of the better RSAs of recent years, and I was wrong.

I’m still all about the Black Corton dream. But I will have to admit that Potato’s sheer enthusiasm has persuaded me to have small e/w saver on Elegant Escape, just in case. Must say I don’t fancy the Irish much.
