It’s been said before on here, but not good for the health of Irish racing that Elliott has 12 runners in the race and Gigginstown must be running out of different cap colours. No disrespect to either as they run their horses perfectly fairly, but there really ought to be a better spread of trainers and owners. Favoured one of those for me is OUT SAM, the ride of Davy Russell, in form and as much targeted at this as any.

I’ve decided to keep the 3 I have and see how it goes.

Spider Web 10-1, Woods Well 20-1, Arkwrisht 25-1. EW 5 places.

    Good luck all. :good:

It’s the same selections for me lads. Win bets on Arkwrisht + Dounikos for me, I don’t think they will be far away.

Landed on woods well- love the jockey, he’s fantastic. Why’s he 20/1 and Wpm’s 7-1 on the Galway form!

Some great comments on here. Not the best renewal but am, for once, siding with the Gigginstown runners. Dounikos runs well fresh and, if staying the trip, has a touch of class; it will be tough for a five year-old but Tout Est Permis has real potential; these would be my two. I will add Young Turk because it is intriguing that Lisa O’Neill is on him given Elliot has 12 runners.

Yeah BOF, suspected as much when the entries came out that it wasn’t a strong renewal, and it isn’t.

Doesn’t stop it being a tough one though, and it’s the Giggs runners that have me scratching my head as well.

Already with General Principle (topped up 22’s) and Woods Well, and with me wanting to be three handed, it isn’t easy.

Dounikos is on a recovery mission, but the potential was always there, and with the jockey taking that claim, well that changes my view on him.

I’ve always liked Arkwrisht, he had a rock solid prep, and he’s due his turn.

As you rightly say, the booking of O’Neil is an eye opener. She’s very very good, and her absence from an Elliot runner is very interesting. She’s given me three decent paydays in the last couple of years, two of them significant, and I don’t want to miss her, especially when she’s riding a horse who was a notebook horse of mine last season. Getting ahead of myself, but are they getting to know each other ahead of The NH Chase. Either way, hands are tied with this combo, and I have to cover. 28’s to 6 Places.

I nearly always lay off my stake if I can, but not possible here, with big drift on General Principle, and Woods Well static.

If I can get a wee bit back, I’d have no hesitation in adding Kylecrue at 66’s. Far too big on his Munster National run. I follow him and a few of his stablemates closely. Trainer keeps them busy, but Kylecrue has had a longer break than usual. Might be a legitimate reason, but just the chance it’s been to keep him primed for this. Seriously considered at 66’s.

The other pair would be nice, but I would love to see General Principle land this, and I think he can, regardless of the drift.

At 28/1 6 places with Skybet, I like the look of Young Turk. Ran
a decent race last time with Davy Russell in the plate, but came down when held
at the last. Russell has deserted him in favour of the more fancied Out Sam ,who
won the Cork National last time out, but he’s gone up a hefty 8lbs for that win.
I wouldn’t read too much into that move as the lowest weight he’s carried in the
last year is 10st 7lbs, and Young Turk gets into this on 10st 2lbs. He’ll get the
very capable Lisa O’Neil doing the steering and I’d be very disappointed if they
couldn’t get into the 1st 6 home. Well worth an e/w IMO :good:

PS, excellent write up early on for this Bobby, I know you have already identified
him as a genuine contender here. Bayoffreedom, I see you are and Ham are fans too,
let’s hope Lisa can keep him out of trouble, it’s likely to be a rough race.

    Thanks Graham, much appreciated.

He has to step, but I think he just might.

I notice that amongst his army of runners Gordon Elliott turns out Ned Stark in this race. He was a decent young chaser when with Alan King, but in his latter days in that stable looked to me as if he was suffering with a back problem. He’s only had one run for Elliott, well behind in a handicap hurdle over a year ago. I would presume that Elliott has had someone working on Ned Stark’s fitness and it will interesting if there are signs of a revival today. On the face of it a watching brief would be advisable, but with this trainer you never know…

I do like a good Irish staying handicap, so this is a bit of a treat.

Of the horses at the head of the market, Tout Est Permis is the one that stands out. Yes he’s young, but he has the most potential to outrun his rating. He’s in the hands of a trainer who’s usually at his best at this time of year, so he’s on my list.

After timing alert – both General Principle and Spider Web have done me favours this year. That said, I’m looking at horses they beat.

Arkwrisht was rather unlucky in the Irish National. He was going over a short trip last time and ran well despite that. This is more in his range, and he’s worth a go.

The Horse With The Very Irish Name was only just pipped by Spider Web last time. There seems to be more of a weight gap, and I’ll be figuring that being trained by an unfashionable trainer has distortes the market there somewhat. Put it this way – would he be 25s if he was trained by Elliott/Mullins/Morris/Meade? Nope.

    So, my three are

    Tout Est Permis
    Arkwrisht
The Horse With The Very Irish Name

    BlueSky @pghenn.bsky.social

So don't run, just like the others always do

Well done BoF and FLD finding the winner. Glad I sat it out as nothing I might have backed did any good.
