I’ve got BFT at 25s, Eric’s Charm at 100s and Can’t Buy Time at 33s, all of which are shorter.
Comply Or Die was 25s when I backed him in December, and he’s still there now, while Possol (25s) and War Of Attrition (33s) are non-runners.

April 3, 2010 at 10:01 in reply to: Best horse to run in but never win a “major” at cheltenham.. #287280Can’t believe Exotic Dancer hasn’t had a mention yet! Surely would have won at least one Gold Cup if it wasn’t for Kauto.
Agreed.
Just think – if Kauto and Denman had never happened, dear old ED would have been the first horse to have regained the Gold Cup…and people would’ve been talking about his great battles with Neptune Collenges.

Got to be Dessie.

Pretty new to the game, but I’d say Kauto Star, just, over Desert Orchid.
Of the lesser-rated horses, Eric’s Charm.

The death that affected me most was Exotic Dancer. I’d only really just got into racing, and it made me feel very sad indeed.
RIP, ED.

I’m thinking about A New Story myself – I also like the look of Telenor and Oscar Time.
Hmmm.

Can Mon Mome repeat last year’s Aintree victory?
Yes, of course he can.
WILL
Mon Mome repeat last year’s Aintree victory?
Ah, now that’s another question….

Put it this way – I’ve done my regular four bets* in the race and, while The Momester (yes, I know no-one calls him that) isn’t one of them, I wouldn’t necessarily discourage someone from betting on him (unlike some other horses!)
*Well, OK, it was going to be six, but after getting bitchified at Cheltenham and War of Attrition and Possol both pulling out, I’ve got it back down to four.

My shortlist four right now is
Big Fella Thanks (obviously trained for the National, big race as a 7-y-o, impressive win last time out)
Eric’s Charm (Strong horse, under-rated, wins big-ish handicap chases, put paid to not being able to go left-handed in last race)
Comply or Die (2nd last year, 1st year before, evident C&D specialist, carrying less than last year)
Can’t Buy Time (Hugely impressive at Cheltenham in December – might be ‘switching’ him later, though!)Definitely keen on the top three, although might end up backing something else entirely!

Voy Por Ustedes
Twist Magic (at Cheltenham, anyway – I’ll still be backing him at other tracks)
Punchestowns (probably). Now just watch as VPU has an Indian summer, Twist Magic wins the 2011 Champion Chase and Punchestowns becomes (by my calculations) the new, new, new, new, new, new Arkle!

I never actually saw Arkle in the flesh so i cant say for sure….but why cant younger racing fans think Kauto etc is the best without being shot down over akle this and arkle that?
rant over

I wonder if, back in the 60s, Arkle fans had to put up with people going ‘there’s no way he’s better than Cottage Rake’ and, the 40s, Cottage Rake fans had to listen to people saying ‘he would have been beaten by Golden Miller any day of the week’?

Just a thought…what if Big Fella Thanks wins this year? Do we think that might change Findlay’s mind?

Fortification should (apparantly) like the step up in trip. He has a nice claimer and if ground doesn’t get too bad (he prefers gd/sft) he’s a decent each way at 25’s.
Yeah, I like him as well.
He had a bad race last time around, but I think he’s over that now. Fingers Crossed!

Neptune Collonges should hopefully be back next year, a fresh, rejuvenated horse.
That’s a point – forgive my ignorance, but what’s happened to him this season.
(I am a comparative racing n00b, sorry.)

My view is this.
Certainly let him rest until the new season, give him a prep run…
No, I’ll say it now. I think he’s had his time. Let him retire, he’s been the best horse of my lifetime.
(Kauto, prove me wrong!)

I think Denman in the National would be absolutely fascinating – not sure if I’d back him, though!

Albertas run
defineately runs in the Ryanair now and there"s nothing between him and
Voy Por Ustedes
on their King george running behind Kauto Star! A Reverse forecast is something i"ve never done before!I wonder what 16"s and 20"s would pay? Another cracking race in prospect!

I backed VPU…but then I saw this post and thought ‘why not?’
Of course, I then had to put a little bit on Alberta’s Run at 16s…and the rest is history.
Cheers, mate!

March 18, 2010 at 07:20 in reply to: William Hill Trophy handicap (Tues) / Kim Muir (Thurs) 2010 #283514The horse I’ve gone e/w on for the Kim Muir is I’moncloudnine. He’s been improving a lot as of late, he’s won off this sort of mark before, and he has to be respected here.
