Why did Nicholls give useless Sam Thomas the ride on Twist Magic when McCoy was available?

That’s a touch harsh – let’s not forget that Thomas has won the Gold Cup.

I’ve become really rather fond of Twist Magic, in spite of – or maybe because of – his attitude. I really do hope he comes back next season fresh, alert, and ready to run the sort of great race we all know he’s capable of.

Interesting looking at the ante-post fall out for next year’s Champion Hurdle. Hurricane Fly is 6/1 and Thousand Stars is 50/1 yet Hurricane Fly has a fragile profile and remains unproven on the track. Added to that not inconceivable that Thousand Stars would have been even closer with Ruby Walsh on board.

I understand the "Ruby factor" but would be a great shame if Katie lost the ride next year, I though she was outstanding in defeat

There’s the potential that HF vs Binny could be the Kauto vs Denman of hurdles – BUT! – there’s also a decent chance that the two horses could do themselves a mischief before next years Champion Hurdle, so it really is all to play for.

Katie Walsh and Thousand Stars seem to get on really well, so it would be a shame to separate the two.

As a result, I’m kicking myself that I mentioned to a colleague of mine who I’ve gone for in next year’s Champion Hurdle…

Tell us all on the forum who you’ve gone for in next years Champion Hurdle, then we’ll know if it loses then it does cause you bad luck but if it wins it will mean your talking muck. :D

Brilliant win from Hurricane Fly, superb performance, and I reckon he’s a better bet than Binocular for next year’s Cheltenham Champion Hurdle.

Not saying that I’ll back him mind…

Anyway the worlds on drugs: 9/2 about Captain Cee Bee  unbelievable!! was like all my Xmas’s came at one time.

Aye, fantastic result, and a brilliant performance by both horse and jockey.

    My wallet says Punchestown>Cheltenham

    Arg.

So, should we take it as given that he won’t run, or do we think the bookies have been a touch too hasty?

Anyone know of any trends available on the web on this race?
My initial thoughts are Eric’s Charm – especially if McCoy is aboard.

    Go Merigo!!!!!

I’d expect AP would ride Can’t Buy Time, but I still think The Charmster is gonna have some e/w value.

Then again, as a huge form of Eric’s Charm, I would say that, wouldn’t I?

Got to hand it to AP bounces straight back.

    Agreed.

What I thought was excellent was Kempes winning despite wanting to jump out to the left all the time (from what I could see on my TV, like). Might be worth bearing that in mind!

I like the profile of Eric’s Charm (bar his last-time-out fall) and the fact that he’s a half-brother to Monkerhostin and another crack has a relatively low weight.

I think he fell at the first in the GN, so it shouldn’t have taken too much out of himm and his trainer says he’s fine. Not a bother on him!

Eric’s Charm will be running in The Artist Formerly Known As The Whitbread at Sandown – and he’s well worth a bet, as he loves the place.

I reckon the reason he fell at the first in the National was because his running was so dominant, and his jumping so massive, he didn’t want the other horses to give up. *Nods*

Two horses I like, at least at first consideration.

Chief Dan George has ran decently here before, and he’s in great form.

Gidam Gidam is a pretty tasty price, and we know he can go the trip.

That said, still plenty of time!

At the end of the day, 8/1 was just too big a price!

Funny thing was, I was going to be on Forpadydeplasterer…but then I remembered people on here talking about Alberta’s Run, saw the prices, and changed my mind.

    Thanks, guys :D

I saw it today, and I rather enjoyed it. If nothing else, it was a change from Channel 4!

I like the sound of the horses racing – it gives you a really good feel for the race, in my opinion.

Remember – this is the Beeb doing a sport that isn’t football, for an audience that may not be big fans.

Plus – when they played the music they always play for the National, my hairs stood on end…everybody now "dum dum dum de dum dum, dum dum dum de dum dum, dum de dum dum, dum de dum diddle dee"

The thing with Tipsters is this…

Firstly, I suspect we’re all tipsters, in our own little way. I’m off work ill today, but yesterday my boss’s boss asked me for my National tips (which was rather flattering, if somewhat disconcerting!).

Secondly, it’s good to see the tips…but it’s even better to find out why the tips are made.

Thirdly, one of the smuggest feelings is when you back a horse the night before a race…and then a big tipster backs it, too!

I realise this may well have made no sense. Oh well.

    My list is.

    Palypso de creek
    Ollie Magern
    Beat the Boys
    Cerium
    Erics Charm
Royal Rosa (if he gets in)

Erics Charm is one i was sorely tempted by and is probably one i’m going to turn to on the day

Come the way of the Charmster, you know he’s a better horse than people are making out

Seriously, though – I’ve been a supporter of his for ages, and slowly but surely more people are coming on board – should I be pleased, or worried?

I like the look of Nacarat, too – at 5s, he’s too good to miss.

In fact, I also like What A Friend at around 3s, so I might split my bets.

Really don’t think The Imp’s gonna win this one!

Listening to NTD, you’d think he was a sheep farmer who won a racehorse in a raffle, rather than a long-established and highly successful trainer!

I can’t be having The Imp in the bowl, anyhow.
