Does anyone else here have a total fear of even mentioning which horses their backing, for fear of bad luck? It seems that, recently, I’ve had been on a bloody good streak, but ONLY when I’ve not mentioned to anyone who I’ve backed.
As a result, I’m kicking myself that I mentioned to a colleague of mine who I’ve gone for in next year’s Champion Hurdle…
Seriously, though – anyone else had this?

April 23, 2010 at 17:21 #291979…any connection in the thoughts you may have as to what may win/will win and the actual events of what happens, beyond the normal outcomes of probability have no association whatsoever, unless you believe in a solipsism.
So if I was you I wouldn’t worry about it…

Tell us all on the forum who you’ve gone for in next years Champion Hurdle, then we’ll know if it loses then it does cause you bad luck but if it wins it will mean your talking muck.

Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
April 23, 2010 at 17:43 #291994Yeah, I went six months without tipping a winner on this forum, May to November last year! Well, apart from Yeats as a saver.
April 23, 2010 at 17:52 #291998No such thing as bad luck my last 6tips had 5 winners on this forum.Gerald i think you should visit my thread more often.

April 23, 2010 at 18:27 #292015Pete, I think there ought to be an "Ask Pete!" section on the forum, similar to the "Ask Roy!" questions about football in late, lamented footie comic "Roy Of The Rovers"
For instance:
How come I never have enough on a winner and far too much on a loser?
Why, when I change my mind in a race, does my foregone selection always win?
When in a rush to get a bet on, why does my horse win when I’ve missed the off, and lose when I manage to get the bet down?
…and finally, the classic – why, when I study a race for an hour or two, does my selection finish tailed off and when I glance at a race for three seconds using the Ghost Jockey’s Black Spot Madform ratings, does the horse hose up by five lengths?
Yours, puzzled.
