No question – Godolphin are as straight as they come!
But what happened to Sagara? He finished last. Has he not got over being gelded? Please excuse ignorance – does this happen sometimes? Agree with firefox’s earlier post suggesting that Godolphin only geld as a last resort.
While I can agree that Youmzain’s run was very good indeed, and that Getaway’s inexperienced-at-Epsom jockey may have helped to undo him, I think the two horses to take out of this race are the winner and Macarthur.
The Soldier doesn’t yet get quite the credit he deserves, and I think there are more G1s to be won by him. Macarthur may finally be beginning to show the talent the yard always believed him to possess. Will they keep them in separate races after today?
Of course, 3 lb. difference in the weights. Thanks, Pinza, mystery solved. Same thing doesn’t apply to Sagara/Al Shemali, so what’s going on? Sagara surely should win this.
You’ve got me worried. Sagara is in my active stable in Godolphin’s 7 Stars comp, and I thought I’d pick up some easy points.
But regarding riding arrangements, why was McEvoy on Alexandros in Godolphin’s first colours in Epsom’s first race (went off favourite and finished second) when Frankie wearing white cap was on Young Pretender?
Well done, firefox, for your faith in Look Here.
On another thread I mentioned the possibilities of sires doing Classic doubles this weekend, and somehow missed
what looks a fantastic bet now: Hernando sired both Look Here and Casual Conquest.I wish I had kept my faith in Moonstone (thought she was good but probably hadn’t come to herself yet) – instead of backing her each way I went on Tiffany Diamond – finished last!

Will be back on Moonstone for the Irish Oaks though. (Thought she was hampered or at least shuffled back early on – was that the case?) Winner still far too good for her today. Think the first three are all very good.
Coronation: Getaway – win
Oaks: Tiffany Diamond – e/w
I was going to sit this one out – at least as tough to figure as the Derby imo
– and rest for a while on my good results last week (thanks for the kind write-up, david). But, hey, here goes…TRINCOT – E/W
At least it’s original.

It’s looking more and more likely that LL will go to Epsom. Well and good.
The question is "Will she go to the Curragh?" Looks like JB may have made a mistake and not entered her there.

If that is the case, his hand may be forced into sending her to Epsom to find out the viability of stumping up the supplementary fee for the Curragh.

I have an admittedly vague memory of reading somewhere that Aidan O’Brien said that Powerscourt had a pretty poor time in Dubai. I really wonder what Tammy Twomey’s time there was like – perhaps an interesting story.

Don’t think, however, that the cool reception had to do with her gender but rather with the Sheik’s feeling that AOB should have come to Dubai. Does anyone know anything more?
Henrythenavigator – win
Duke of Marmalade – win
Halfway to Heaven – e/wAlthough I’m really hoping that either Henry (slight preference) or New Approach win, I think it’s quite possible that either Famous Name or Jupiter Pluvius could spring a (mild?) surprise.
Amused that Luminaire is supposedly running on his own merit. Never having seen a racecourse before, he must be showing a lot at home!

I read that he was named “Big Brown” after a firm of couriers . If so, I expect it was also intended as a pun on “Big Red”, the nickname given to Secretariat by the woman who owned him, as that sounds to me the more likely reason for his name. Not that he or any other horse would be or have been quite in Secretariat’s class.
“Big Red” was also Man O’War – thus the nickname of the two best (perhaps arguably) American horses of the 20th century. Can only hope at this point that BB can be just as big.
I’m hoping for another spectacular win by Big Brown today so that we can be treated to a potentially great showdown between BB and Casino Drive in the Belmont. At least on breeding you’d have to give Casino a great chance.
Astronomer Royal each way
Kingdom of Naples not running in the Dante, but is entered in the Gallinule Stakes in Ireland Sunday week. He may make Epsom, but…
His likely destination is the Irish Derby, which could be quite a race if the Epsom winner plus Casual Conquest plus Famous Name all turn up. Could it be the Derby this year?
Cecil has doubts about the ground being safe for Twice Over.
If he doesn’t run, the Derby picture remains clear as mud. Unless connections of Casual Conquest or Famous Name change their minds….
Sorry, that wasn’t very clear – mile races for Henry of course. I don’t think he should be sacrificed (if that isn’t too strong a word) to the Derby.
