Many thanks for your totally brilliant descriptions, Triptych and Kasparov.

A reminder for those yet to get on the Leaderboard – if this competition was around in 2018, top scorers Roaring Lion and Stradivarius were yet to score points at this stage.
Great point. Now watch my selections get colds for the remainder of the season!

Thanks, Ginger, you’ve been so quick and so thorough. I guess Royal Ascot will prove quite a challenge and have you tearing your hair out! Good luck to you and to all.

Many congratulations, aaronizneez! Very versatile – seems you can win no matter what the conditions. Next year will you be able to pull off what Goldikova couldn’t?

Galileo has had great start to his stud career but the fact he failed at stud in Australia means he can never be compared to Northern Dancer.
Is the South African champion Igugu the only G1 winner that Galileo sired in Australia? Does anyone know what’s happened to the colt he sired ex Makybe Diva? Bred for far too much stamina, but I seem to remember reading somewhere the colt had made a good start to his racing career.
Re Sadler’s Wells: sire of El Prado who was champion sire in US some years back and who I think sired Medaglio d’Oro, who is a very successful young American sire.
Of the three, obviously by today’s reckoning Northern Dancer is the greatest. But in another 20 years or so, who knows?
Galikova over 12f I think would be better than any of the English or Irish fillies who seem to be all in a heap.
She reopposes Golden Lilac who beat her in the Diane in the Prix de la Nonette next month again at 10f. Expect Lilac to beat her again there, but positions I think will be reversed in the Vermeille over 12f. Galikova to win the Vermeille (I think Sarafina might go to the Foy instead against the colts – and suspect Gal will beat Midday here).
I thought Sans Frontieres was going to run in this. What’s happened to him?
No to the Leger, but – don’t laugh – why not entertain a thought of the Melbourne Cup? The way the Cup is usually run would give CH a reasonable chance esp. in view of WFA allowance. And think of the endless good publicity possibilities! When are the Queen and Prince Philip visiting Australia?
CH has run out of G1 3 year old races here and will I think have a tough time landing a G1 against this year’s group of middle distance older horses. What a coup if he could win or even just run well in Australia’s premier race!
Lovely comp, lovely prize! Thanks to Corm and Alex, and many congratulations to Bachelors Hall. I don’t see a ‘jealous’ emoticon or it would appear here!
Agreed,

about today’s field – Golden Lilac in particular must have frightened off plenty of potential opposition. Odd though that neither Coolmore nor Godolphin have mustered any challenge at all, nor any English or Irish filly been targeted at an event like the Diane, which was a bit of a goldmine for the British (in win and place money) during the 1980’s and 90’s.
Some analysis of the general trend might be in order…
I too would like to see such an analysis but I’m not equipped to do it.

Re today’s race, Pinza, Wavering is a Darley-bred Godolphin horse, but obviously not an English one.
Wasn’t the winner good? It will be interesting to see whether Galikova can reverse the form in the Vermeille. Apparently Peslier has reported that she was not quite herself today.
I don’t wonder at them in this particular case, Pinza. I can’t see any English or Irish fillies beating Galikova and Golden Lilac. Wavering too is a G1 winner. This field is stronger than the Oaks which of course was only run nine days ago.
Andy, I think all this means is that Joseph’s 3lbs. claim has been forfeited and that his mount carried the same weight as the winner.
