I have long expected Lush Lashes to be shorter than she is, the Musidora was a breeze, and whilst I hjave to hold my nose whilst supporting any of that trainers runners, i think shes a good bet at 100/30
June 6, 2008 at 13:34 #166785You Timeform disciples are all the same- who cares about the form: all I care about is finding horses who are consistently underbet due to the bias of the crowd (i.e. you and the other poor sods who keep Jim McGrath in fancy ties). If Papal Bull turns up on fast ground in a suitable race this year I’ll be the one at the payout window while you Timeformers mutter about squiggles and form.
June 6, 2008 at 13:43 #166789I guess the best horse in the race doesn’t always win. But he wins more than a majority of the time. So I don’t know why people would follow the money and expect to make a respectable annual profit.
I see a fair few have put Youmzain or Soldier Of Fortune on top simply because Getaway is too short odds. How is too short odds supposed to affect his chances of winning? It’s mental. Unless you are giving a wagering suggestion instead of an outright selection.
June 6, 2008 at 14:44 #166808I can’t believe that Cape Amber is so big. Has she lost a leg or something?
June 6, 2008 at 15:24 #166846I have just had a closer look at the Oaks for tomorrow – although I will still be backing Lush Lashes to win, I have had my attention drawn to the 33/1 shot Look Here of Ralph Beckett’s.
Well done

She looked unlucky not to win the Lingfield Oaks trial (s presumably no problem handling Epsom’s undulations) but more eyecatchingly she defeated Dr Fremantle (as short as 10/1 for the Derby) on her only start at 2.
Crucially that start win at 2 was in good to soft ground, so she should have no problem with the ground either.
At 33/1 she has to be the each way value bet of the season so far, with never-say-die Sanders steering her – or as Claude would say "The evergreen Seb Sanders").
Golf claps all round.
June 6, 2008 at 15:25 #166848Well done firefox, hope you had a few bob on it………

June 6, 2008 at 15:34 #166858Good call Firefox.
June 6, 2008 at 15:35 #166859Well done Firefox – was it you who had the £400 e/w at 40/1 with Bill Hill yesterday?
Have just spoken to Kate Miller from William Hill and they are going 16/1 Look Here for the King George. (11/4 Soldier Of Fortune and 10/3 Getaway)
June 6, 2008 at 15:36 #166860How in God’s name is getaway 10/3?! He simply is not good enough.
June 6, 2008 at 15:51 #166866Great shout, Firefox.
Believe you made Paul Haigh a few quid as well, and got a deserved mention on his Derby blog on the Racing Post website!
June 6, 2008 at 15:55 #166867Well done firefox.
June 6, 2008 at 15:57 #166870Well done, firefox, for your faith in Look Here.
On another thread I mentioned the possibilities of sires doing Classic doubles this weekend, and somehow missed
what looks a fantastic bet now: Hernando sired both Look Here and Casual Conquest.I wish I had kept my faith in Moonstone (thought she was good but probably hadn’t come to herself yet) – instead of backing her each way I went on Tiffany Diamond – finished last!

Will be back on Moonstone for the Irish Oaks though. (Thought she was hampered or at least shuffled back early on – was that the case?) Winner still far too good for her today. Think the first three are all very good.
June 6, 2008 at 16:13 #166882I was a bit surprised with Johnny Murtagh in the Oaks. Usually has a good clock in his head (and is possibly the best Epsom jockey at the moment), he went off much too fast and Adored was beaten turning for home.
