Any other Star Wars fans here?
I watched the original (then known simply as “Star Wars”, but now rebranded as “Episode IV”) at the cinema in 1977 and have been an avid fan ever since. Yes, it’s twee and glib and predictable, but it’s great fun.
May 4, 2026 at 20:39 #1766027Sci-fi has never really been my thing but I understand that tomorrow is ‘Revenge of the Fifth’

I’ve never seen the originals but I did see a couple of the second (to be released) trilogy and more recently Episode VII which was as you say good clean fun.
May 5, 2026 at 03:30 #1766047I was too young for Star Wars back in 1976, but became a Superman fan in the early 80s. The first Star Wars movie I watched was Return of the Jedi in 1983. But somehow I still stuck to Superman. A bit like HDLG claiming IET is the better horse compared to Gaelic Warrior.
May 5, 2026 at 08:49 #1766075I too saw the original at the flicks in 1977, in the Tottenham Court Road Odeon during a visit to the Smoke. Very enjoyable, particularly the special effects which were outstanding for the time.
That splendid actor Peter Cushing – he of numerous Hammer Horror films – played a typically creepy character in it; he was also Dr Who in two rather poor film spin-offs in the mid ’60s
I’ve also seen the two early sequels: The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, though both of those on the goggler. Good fun too.
Not seen any of the later ones.

The more I know the less I understand.
June 1, 2026 at 14:32 #1767706I love Star Wars (I’m a huge fan of Sci-Fi). When the film came out, I remember seeing a long queue of people eagerly waiting outside the cinema when my Dad drove past it. Haven’t witnessed such a craze to see a film ever since. When I eventually got to see the film, I was blown away by it. The sheer presence of Darth Vader instilled a sense of dread. The lightsaber has to be the best close range weapon in movie history. Harrison Ford turned out to be one of my favourite actors.
