He also received a police caution for cocaine possession which he talks about in his autobiography right after he left Cumani.

Where will her new base be located?
It was quite a few years back when I first noticed that Frankie wasn’t the man to have on board if you’re a small owner in a small race. Unless he is riding in a big race or for a big stable/owner you are unlikely to get the full effort you feel you are entitled to. I won’t for one moment begrudge the man however because he has shown racing in a positive light on many occasions and the sport needs its good publicity now more so than ever before. However, as a small owner I would take Kieren Fallon over Frankie every time……question marks and all.
I think you can put this to bed EW. The problem here is perhaps your phrasing. You chose to use the Jackane style of making your assessment final and factual…ie, the race was not top class, full stop.
Did you actually mean that based on the race alone we couldn’t rate it top class yet? That way if horses from this race were to go out and prove themselves G1 animals you could look back, reflect and say "yep, in hindsight that was a top class derby".
If that were the case then I believe the majority in here would agree with you.
EW, I do apologise if you feel I insulted you. It wasn’t the intention. I have always respected your time figures and assessments but will just have to agree to disagree on your proclamation that a race CANNOT be top class if it doesn’t have proven G1 winners in the field, especially when very few have had the opportunity to put one on their cv.
Cheers.
I give up EW, lol. Why not just say that if we were to use the Empty Wallet definition of top class, i.e group1 winners in the field, then the Derby was NOT top class?
Thankfully most people are shrewder than this otherwise there will have hardly been a top class performance in the history of racing by any 2yo through June of his 3yo career.
I’m not getting carried away in the slightest, but at the same time let’s not conclude that it couldn’t be top class due to the lack of Gp1 winners in the field…….eh?;)
Hypothetical situations don’t interest me too much. Neither of those horses showed up. Only time will tell how good a derby this was but I feel, and hope, that Authorised will turn out to be one of the better ones.
EW, you’re right in that the time makes the performance look good. However, you’re saying:-
" If there were G1 winners, 2nd and 3rd, everyone would be shouting from the roof tops "TOP class form" and seeing there are none, it can’t be "TOP class" can it "
which is patently wrong. You can’t state that till you see how the rest of the season pans out. Noone said that having a race with no Gp1 winners is better than one without…..you have chosen to assume people were implying that. All Clive etc said was that there was little chance of there being any due to the fixtures….and they are quite right!<br>
Maurice, please name me some jockeys who have achieved as much as Kinane and who at the same time were never journeymen (as you define it). I would be interested to see how many there are.

Madman, is there actually any point in posting an opinion if it differs to yours? Not once have you taken the "we will agree to disagree" approach and treated differing opinions with any form of respect whatsoever.
If trainers’ horses were as consistent with their runs as you are with your belligerence this game would be ever so easy.
Good article trackside.
"Indeed, it can be argued that Teofilo was slightly unlucky not to have won a classic after he was nailed on the line by Astronomer Royal in the French 2,000 Guineas on ground that was softer than ideal."
I know you didn’t review this but if you had taken a couple of minutes you could have put the correct horse in the above sentence.
How about Bounce Back in the 2004 National. Most horses call it a day after falling, but after falling at Bechers, BB got up and bravely (ok, maybe stupidly ;) ) continued to persevere with his jumping riderless, falling twice more along the way.
Absolutely Clive. Would love to see what he’d have written if Adagio had been the one flying from last to first in an identical time.

Marz, I assume you follow racing for some positive reason(s). Is there anything about the sport you actually like or are you only involved to put any potential racing enthusiasts off the sport altogether?
Corm, that’s always an option if he lacks the necessary incentive ;)
