Absolutely right Mesh…..he is now called Lemon Silk. Sadly his debut has been delayed due to a bug in Tom’s yard. He hasn’t stopped cantering but his faster work has been delayed till the mucus clears. We were hoping to make it to Royal Ascot but it looks like we have run out of time. He is entered in 2 of the big sales races later in the season and will let you know when he plans to make his debut.

I think DJ is on the right track….there is more to this than meets the eye. Let’s not be so quick to assume it was HJ that was behind this. Enough said.

I honestly believe a horse knows when he has won. A confident horse is one that has accomplished winning with the least exertion, thus the reason why some trainers drop a horse in class when they need a confidence booster. Horses know when they have had a very hard race and have had to endure the pain barrier. And they remember it well. Some horses will tolerate that pain better than others and continue trying their guts out….such as Giant’s Causeway, so I do believe it’s a case of pain threshold more so than stupidity. Riyadh was a perfect example of a horse that refused to put it in at the business end because he knew the pain was forthcoming when the jock finally asked for his effort, and would do everything he could to make his jockey fail. These horses need to be found a race where they can do everything on the bridle….ie find a race so bad they can’t help winning it in spite of themselves. When this ”confidence booster’ is achieved some will realise they endured no pain and may be willing to try harder next time.

This is devastating news and as much as I realise this is a risk all horses take on a daily basis, if anything can be done to lower the risks, then it should. When I heard a horse had died overnight, I immediately thought it may have been Gardasee and several nerve wracking moments passed before I was informed it wasn’t him. After studying the replays many times, it seems that both Gardasee’s and Sh Boom’s injuries were caused in the same way…..by being gouged by the part of the hurdle that sticks up higher than the rest of it. I realise these are freak accidents but surely there must be a simple solution to prevent this type of accident.

Salselon, I mentioned minority becuse if you look through numerous old posts here you will find many who have referred to him as a ‘token’ hiring.

Unless I sat down with him I am unable to judge how deep his knowledge of racing actually is, so until then will reserve judgement. As someone said earlier, he is hired to do a certain job, and it is a matter of opinion whether he does it better than others. Since Lydia hasn’t been brought up within the racing circle, I tend to find her opinions somewhat more objective, so if she says Rishi is knowledgeable I will accept that opinion till I am convinced otherwise.

Thank you Daylight and Lydia. I thoroughly enjoyed reading all that and am glad Lydia stuck up for Rishi. Being a minority and having a happy demeanor doesn’t make a person any less knowledgeable.

If anything, EC was trying to be compassionate towards the horse, but bottom line is that owners pay the bills and they are the decision makers. I am quite sure IG’s jumping has made them do a great deal of thinking before coming up with the decision to run. I still can’t compare Gloria Victis to IG in any way though. GV had every chance of winning when tragedy struck, and was a far better animal that any good novice seen out in a long time. IG still has Unsinkable Boxer written all over him but best of luck to the Lesters. I do hope the jockey gets instructions to pull him up right away if he clobbers a few and is going nowhere.

As an owner I know what it’s like to have dreams of winning the big one. But generally the trainer will bring you back to earth with a bump so it surprises me that Jonjo hasn’t advised against IG taking his chance. Dreaming is all part of the racing game but at some stage reality needs to set in. I had Triumph Hurdle dreams this year with Gardasee, but came to the conclusion that he was probably a stone below the best over hurdles and his future lies over fences, he won’t get the soft ground he needs and most likely he would not be able to dominate from the front.

To me, it looks like Unsinkable Boxer in the Gold Cup all over again. His races prior to his GC run were very similar to IG in terms of his inadequate jumping and come the Gold Cup, I see IG running the same type of race…..toiling at the back after blunder after blunder before finally being pulled up……in one piece hopefully. IG cannot be compared to the ill-fated Gloria Victis who jumped soundly in the main and was perhaps a victim of inexperience.
