Hard to get away from how easily Lope Y Fernandez won on debut but the forms not working out well as yet 3rd and 4th well beaten since albeit they were a long way behind Lope Y Fernandez anyway, he is very short here off the one start and has to be taken on for me.
Seeing how well Platinum Star ran in the Norfolk Stakes and how easily Pinatubo brushed him aside on debut it’s hard to argue with him not being much shorter in the market. The form from the Woodcote hasn’t worked out so well but he didn’t seem to be in love with the track and still won cosily off a good gallop, Ascot should suit much more. Given he’s by Sharmadal out of a mare that won over 11F at Listed level everything he’s done so far over 6F must have been a bonus for connections and although Godolphin don’t have quite the record of O’Brien in this contest they’ve still had Masar, Toscanini and Ihtimal go close and Tha’ir won in 2012 (beating Lovely Pass into 3rd) for Saeed Bin Suroor. I think the experience and being streetwise from Epsom and the extra run could be key for Pinatubo over Lope Y Fernandez.
Of the others Heaven Forfend probably should have won his maiden as Newbury taking a hefty bump from the horse who dead-heated with him for third. Light Angel who won that didn’t do the form any favours in the Coventry but the 4th horse home Golden Horde did run very well in the Coventry. He’s a half-sibling to Firmament and a full to the nutcase Seven Heavens, he’s seems much calmer for what it’s worth. My concern for him is his draw in Stall 1, you’d imagine Joker On Jack in 15 will be taking them along. On the subject of which does anybody have any idea why he’s running here he didn’t stay 6F at Newbury.
