Imperial Cup winner was 4th in that Ascot race too, very hot form. Hot Fuss ran very well in the Fred Winter too last year. Lots to like if he stays the trip ok.

I think the race has become to Mullins like the Derby has to Aidan O’Brien. Hes got a load of these babies really in a racehorse sense, they all develop at different rates. He chucks a few at the trials and we think they are the best but probably they are just the ones who are ready. 5th strings or whatever on paper win, happens in the Derby too sometimes. Is what it is. Probably not a race to get too involved in antepost with the way its going

Glad the Skelton Mullins stranglehold of the race is over anyway.

Wd winners. They are very good at plotting one, aided by some curious handicapping again. I don’t understand why if the stewards question the riding of the horse, why the handicapper would then drop the horse on that showing. Doesnt feel very joined up. If we as punters can see what they are doing why cant the handicapper?

Well if that is true then it certainly takes a lot of gloss off what the non-running fav did last year since he beat Heart Wood lol

I think we’re being a touch harsh on Heart Wood there, vs two proven G1 performers who probably arent at their best at Cheltenham over fences but still two good opponents and hes routed them

They’ve not been good have they. I do sympathise a little bit with the starters though because the jockeys are not helping and because the front runners keep winning its a bit of a virtuous circle, everyone wants the same spot etc. Is there enough room? Sounds like Richard Hoiles had some good ideas. Perhaps they should have a chat with him prior to next year.

I would agree with that interpretation Wilts but it doesn’t stack up to me unless the horse has some physical issues or he really won’t let himself down on it. Its not like he’s pulling all his other horses out on some welfare matter. He’s even put Jonbon into the firing line

I think theres enough of Elliotts running fine to say his form is ok. You’ll always get some just not handling the course and/or occasion. Some of them like El Cairos might just be pure hype

Anybody reckon they knew all along if he gets pulled? Jonbon apparently had a hard race at Ascot, probably misses Cheltenham but then magically appears. Impaire Et Passe I think didnt really have this in mind until the last moment. Cyncic in me suspects hes potentially been working like a dog but they wanted to give him until day of the race. I did want to see him beat for ducking the Gold Cupbut not like this

I don’t really want to say anything more on this, let the investigation take its course etc…. but some parting thoughts I’ve had, with the I just wonder if the article/interview Nico gave previously which is likely to have put Declan’s back up which we know referenced the group of jockeys he was targeting as ‘Irish lads’, likely to be similar again? I get what refuse to bend is alluding to earlier on, you do have to be careful using even something as factual as somebody’s nationality to describe them these days but its a bit tit for tat as Declan has also said he didn’t like being abused by an English jockey. Feels a bit handbaggy, tit for ta maybe

I’m not Nico’s biggest fan here but you hear some terrible things said about him which are stereotypes of his upbringing/heritage also. I will hold my hands up here and say I shouldn’t have referenced him coming across as a douche yesterday, that was overstepping the mark.

That was one of the words that came to me also Glad, possibly another ‘P’ word which some might feel isn’t as discriminatory

I don’t know what he’s allegedly said but there were a couple of words that sprung to mind as potentials to me, hopefully not the case.

On another note it just occurred to me that in the first tomorrow, the Dawn Run, James Bowen is jocked up to ride on Carrigmoornaspruce for Declan Queally. Might be a bit awkward for James considering he’s very connected to the Henderson yard.
