Starting early but obviously another great festival for Mullins , Skelton again getting his hcaps and Jonjo hasnt pulled it out of the fire but the volcano with 2 winners , Pauling has 1 ( so far ) , Henderson will be happy ( could be happier shortly ) disaster Elliott , another disaster , no other words , he isn’t closing on Mullins he’s falling farther behind, HDB has scraped one win, Nicholls will be disappointed to , he’s falling behind Skelton at a rate , maybe the teacher needs to learn from the pupil when it comes to handicaps
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 13, 2026 at 15:17 #1759460I was just thinking about Nicholls. He is miles off the pace, not helped by Cobden producing one of the worst rides of the festival on his best chance. I expect he got the hairdryer treatment for that one!
Maybe Nicholls’s daughter will ride the Foxhunter winner for him.
March 13, 2026 at 15:18 #1759461Even so it’s miles away from the early oos , Nicholls is too honest , he can’t bring himself to do what Skeltons doing
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 13, 2026 at 15:23 #1759464Elliot has been having a good year in Ireland; still well ahead of Willie. Not everything is about Cheltenham. Delighted to see Jonjo having 2 winners; I was there 40 years ago…..
Still miss the 3 day white-hot festival. The Ryanair and mares’ races have really diluted the competitiveness
March 13, 2026 at 15:25 #1759467It is Befair for big owners , do you think Gigginstown are lumping the money in to get 0 at the festival
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 13, 2026 at 15:40 #1759476Well, I don’t like the idea about Skelton winning the Trainers’ title, but no single championship race at the Festival.
The ground was, as already stated, perfect and so were the obstacles and the entire course despite the problems they had at the last meeting.
Elliott still has the same struggles he had in the past, he just isn’t as competitive as Willie.
Venetia and Jonjo saved their seasons, same applies to Pauling who might have less pressure going into the Gold Cup.March 13, 2026 at 15:46 #1759482Elliott with his sheer numbers has to be doing better
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 13, 2026 at 18:42 #1759695High: It has to be the Ricci double of the Champion Hurdle and Gold Cup. The first owner to do so since Dorothy Paget!
I thought nothing would top Lossiemouth after she produced the performance many people suspected was in her. But Gaelic Warrior was simply sensational. He is already incredible. He has the potential to be one of the all time greats.
Low: the false starts were exasperating but the real low point was losing Envoi Allen.
Mullins pulling out Fact To File and criticising the Clerk of the Course about the ground was disgraceful. I don’t really mind him dominating the game but he has no right to expect the course to be set up just to suit his horses.
From a punting point of view, it wasn’t a complete disaster but it wasn’t great. Supremely West was a welcome high but Kopek Des Bordes’s defeat hurt!
March 13, 2026 at 18:57 #1759701Highs, Miss Nicholls for four days.
Lows, Envoi Allen plus the other two losses. The more I know the less I understand.
March 13, 2026 at 19:23 #1759711You forgot to put Gemma in your highs Bend
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 13, 2026 at 19:36 #1759717I thought a very competitive Cheltenham despite Mullins dominating again. The Brits certainly did better although no Championship race means we are still well behind the Irish.
High has to be Gaelic Warrior’s performance. I for one didn’t think he’d stay.
Low like others the loss of Envoi Allen after his final race.
March 13, 2026 at 20:03 #1759727Whilst I don’t dislike Gemma she would have to be in very small doses.
The more I know the less I understand.
March 13, 2026 at 20:43 #1759740I’ll put it this way: Ricci finally got what he deserved and both winners were quite breathtaking, especially Gaelic Warrior. Townend was brilliant a few times, but also quite awful on one or two occasions.
The starts were catastrophic to say the least, with the final race being almost the icing on the cake.
The ground, the obstacles, the course layout couldn’t have been better.
Tragic to end with a total of four fatalities overall.
March 13, 2026 at 22:36 #1759756Lows. Envoi Allen. Lows don’t get any lower. Not given the headlines this deserves. Nobody to blame but a despairing low which has completely ruined the week, for me.
Highs. Feels dirty even thinking about it but Jingko Blue winning me a small fortune was a genuine thrill which now pales into insignificance in light of the Envoi Allen tragedy.
March 14, 2026 at 12:08 #1759894I’ve only just got round to watching the final two races from yesterday as I was gutted about Envoi Allen and one of my biggest enjoyments was watching the Foxhunters or whatever they call it now winner given a great ride for connections I’d never heard of before and it was the success of some of the smaller connections I enjoyed a lot this week. Remarkable job done by the Evan Williams yard too in what must have been really difficult circumstances. I’m reluctant to use his name here because hes been convicted of a fairly serious crime but everyone else in the yard deserves all the praise in the world.
March 14, 2026 at 12:13 #1759896Almost forgot my favourite bit that didn’t happen in a race with Tom Bellamy’s mum doing her best Cilla Black. Lovely to see the embrace between Tom, his dad and his brother too
March 15, 2026 at 09:30 #1760037Ultimately the good for me was that the positivity and feel good factor seems to be back.
For the most part, very competetive racing, loads of good betting heaps. Overall, hugely entertaining.
The bad, apart from the ongoing boring mullins domination, is that there wasnt many performances which blew me away.
Gaelic warrior was very good,as was lossiemouth and IET. Novices, both hurdles and chases didnt look exceptional. I think without FTF, Sir Gino and CH there was little wow factor in the actual races.
