Gaelic and IET both sluiced up , couldnt have done more , my fav performance was Old Park Star as I believe he dug it out , that’s a good trait to have and while he’s not as flash as say the hill or Shiskin he might by the first proper tough classy chasing type for Nicky since Altior

March 15, 2026 at 10:26 #1760045I think you always need to let the dust settle on the supreme before you know if it was any good, but it was a real mess after the last so i dont know what to make of old park star.
I hope he’s another altior (or even shiskin).
Dont think he is a 2miler, so probably done well to win.

Gaelic Warrior was very good,as was Lossiemouth and IET.”
I agree that star quality was lacking somewhat, outside of the Ricci pair.
I would rate Il Etait Temps below them. Maybe he would have won anyway but it looked to me like he benefited from receiving the best ride in the proverbial “race that fell apart”.
Majborough got a poor ride and may not be a Cheltenham horse.
L’Eau Du Sud and Quilixios chased a fast pace and are probably not that good anyway.
In the end, Libberty Hunter when ridden for a place was able to run on through beaten horses for a distant second place.
What did Il Etait Temps have to beat, especially the absence of Marine Nationale?
I had hoped L’Eau Du Sud would step up but I think it has to be accepted that his limitations have been exposed in Grade 1 company now.
March 15, 2026 at 10:50 #1760049Agree Cork, IL etait temps and lossiemouth whilst clearly very good, were winners in pretty average renewals.
Even the Gold cup itself, will probably prove to be no more than a std renewal. GC was in a class of his own.
Jango Baie in 2nd, still not convinced. He obviously stays very well over any trip but he just doesnt travel like a top class horse.
March 15, 2026 at 11:12 #1760052What more can IET , he’s smashed all the 2 milers in the division bar Marine

That is how I see him as well. Of the horses towards the head of the market, he was the one I couldn’t have. He picked up the pieces in a moderate Arkle and was then put in his place at Aintree.
I wonder if he might be a National horse in time?
March 15, 2026 at 11:54 #1760062….. That’s a long way to push a horse out , surely mop up some weaker graded races akin to Ascot early season

March 15, 2026 at 14:07 #1760080good; Lossiemouth very smooth, IET picking up and accelerating away after a really bad stumble (would love to see him over 3 miles), Jonjo picking a competitive handicap, Gaelic warrior strolling away from the field in what had been previously reckoned a good Gold Cup.
Bad; Envoi Allen, once the Next Big Thing, didn’t quite live up to that, but still was a great warrior for so many years.
The starts, too many horses losing their chance right there (though didn’t stop Istabraq).
The Ireland/Britain nonsense; at least we don’t see Irish flags being shoved at jockeys anymore.March 15, 2026 at 14:07 #1760081Contradicting myself a bit but could easy see Jango Baie winning the Bowl. Quite often thats won by horses on and off the bridle. Shiskin being a prime example.
Usually theres a good stayer kept fresh for aintree, but i think they all took there chance this year. He’s a consistent sort.
March 15, 2026 at 14:08 #1760082Is Fastorslow out for the season
