Agreed, FF. It’s Good-Firm, firm in places.
Official Good, good-firm places is putting punters and more importantly trainers away.
Just hope the likes of Defoe and Morando come back ok.Value Is EverythingJune 22, 2019 at 15:46 #1446693Well done winners and super tipping Lost Soldier too!
Of mine- Southern France- not fast enough Mirage Dancer- not good enough.June 22, 2019 at 15:49 #1446694Snug win for Defoe, had he not lugged right under pressure wouldve won by further for me
Huge run from nagano gold, especially after getting smashed at the start by masar
Masar predictably didnt find much pressure, will surely come on for that
Felt like the jockey on mirage dancer was half asleep, he seemed to get the run of the race and couldve got first run on Defoe but the jock was just sat there whilst atzeni was getting Defoe flying down the outside
June 22, 2019 at 16:04 #1446696Well done FF with Defoe, he toughed it out well
Have to give a big shout to Lost Soldier, you had Nagano Gold pegged
exactly right. I think you were a tad unlucky and without the obstruction
to him at the start he may well have taken this. Nice one
June 22, 2019 at 16:10 #1446697Yes great shout from lost soldier and was very unlucky at the start
June 22, 2019 at 18:44 #1446718Thanks all. Unlucky not to win, wasn’t he? ITV said he ran each of the final 5 furlongs in the fastest sectional time!
I must give a huge amount of credit to my friend Martin (once Irish Stamp on TRF) who has been raving about Nagano Gold for months and telling me he’s a serious animal – he made me take a second look at the videos and give him the rating he deserved.
June 22, 2019 at 18:56 #1446721Yes watching it again he was very unlucky not to win
I’d love to hear the explanation from Ryan Moore on the tactics he used on southern France, he was on a guaranteed stayer and was happy to sit midfield whilst they went slow up front
He gave the horse absolutely no chance, not had his best week and is not having his best year
June 22, 2019 at 19:21 #1446725Going in to the race the predicted speed was likely to come from Communique and Saloen; with the Johnston horse the most likely pace setter. Suspect Ryan made a decision to track Communique and (may be because they went too quick at Epsom) Franny Norton took a pull; resulting in Ryan also being further back than intended. Didn’t make any difference to the outcome though.
In this field Mirage Dancer was probably the one with most speed. Therefore others were always going to stay on more strongly and can understand Dodds actions. In theory, in his best interests not to make it an even greater test of stamina by striking for home too soon. However, I agree – in waiting in front he probably lost some momentum to the closers.Good tipping Lost Soldiar/Irish Stamp – unlucky.
Value Is EverythingJune 22, 2019 at 22:44 #1446746I suspect Defoe won’t get the credit he deserves again here because of his proximity to the beaten horses in an average enough Group 2. The bare form doesn’t tell the story, contrast to the Coronation Cup as GingerTipster correctly pointed out the pace of that race with Communique and Salouen cutting each others throats set it up for him, today Communique left Salouen to make the running at a steady/slow pace and it got messy, I thought he was in big trouble coming round the turn into the home straight but Defoe’s really quickened up nicely from a much less favourable position than Mirage Dancer was in and gone well away from him. I’d like to think he’s idling a bit in front thinking he’s done enough and would have gone again had Nagano Gold got to him earlier but I can’t be sure of that. What I can be sure of is he’s won a Group 1 and Group 2 now on ground which before this season connections would have said was too fast for him and there’s no doubting he’s a player at the top table over 12F, particularly on ground the soft side of good or worse which others don’t handle so well. Fair play to Varian and the team who seem to be developing a Stoute-esque knack for improving them with age, Zabeel Prince being another to break his Group 1 duck in his advancing years.
