Cant wait till Ruby is back….these big days you need the best jockey

It is Emmett’s ride, he will keep the ride irrespective of when Ruby returns.

You state ïs the jockey’s explanation credible". That’s where a lot of people would differ with you I’m afraid. It’s a case of the boy who cried wolf and if jockeys elect to ride their horses in a certain manner, how can you expect the public not to be sceptical as to whether said horse was ridden on its merits.

It’s not as if Russell’s record is unimpeachable in this respect, Made In Taipan at the same course last year, Mask Of Darkness in Hexham who the BHA looked into.

I agree with you that it wasn’t necessary to pull the horse up as it was conceivable that he could still run on into a place or even win, if as was stated that he wasn’t handling the ground. However, that is taking on trust what the jockey said.

As for the theory from the co host that the horse was hating the ground in keeping with horses sired by Presenting, not to mention his partisan remarks, I would highlight the fact that the dam is a major influence in how horses handle certain ground and Fourstargale, the dam of First Lieutenant relished soft ground and recorded both her wins on testing ground. Before he made his debut on the track proper also, First Lieutenant was successful in a point to point on testing ground and enjoyed that ground according to his previous handler.

I think there is an agreement that the existing Thurles track would make way for this if it gets the green light.

I still remain sceptical that this will materialise despite Lowry lending his weight behind the project. There is the issue of a casino licence and a number of other operators are ahead of them in the queue if and when these are eventually handed out.

And even if it all gets the go ahead, Quirke (who hails from the region) estimates that 80% of their business will come from overseas. Hmm, will I go to Thurles or Vegas for my next vacation, that’s a tough one.

I laid Westphalia that night and cut out in the stewards to cover myself. It was evens your pick but I still thought Farmer Brown would get it in the inquiry so made it a winner for me still and a break even on Westphalia.

The problem I have with the domestic stewards is that there is no consistency. For example a scenario almost identical to the above one manifested itself last month in Galway when Days Ahead got cut off in a similar fashion by Magical Memoir but in this instance the result was overturned.

The Turf Club is an antiquated body that, along with the stewards who have piggy backed off it for years, ought to have be wound down long ago. Horse Racing Ireland should assume full responsibility for the governing and regulation of the sport, given that they are responsible for most other aspects of it.

If you think this was strange go to July 4th 2007 Farmer Brown (8/1) was second in a race at Leopardstown after Dermot Weld’s Westlake (3/10 fav)denied him a passage on the outside, then on the inside finally Berry gave up knowing he would get the race in the stewards room. Little did he know the powers that be.Watch it on ATR and weep. But strange are the ways of the gods.He won the Galway Hurdle next time out.He would have carried a penalty if he had got the race at Leopardstown.

He would have carried a penalty over jumps if he had won a race on the flat?

The Jockeys agent it is then :)

His uncle (?) occupies a remarkably similar role on RUK too IIRC.

    No relation.

Charles doesn’t run x amount of horses on their merits per season. Stewards reprimand him once or twice per season to be seen to be active.

Ballydoyle an entirely different matter, and not in the stewards interests to rock that boat.

Pat Keane has his own agenda btw and would have Charles Byrnes and Davy Russell knighted for sevices to racing if he could.

That’s why AP is champ, his never say die attitude aboard Another Trump on his previous chase start at Bangor when lesser mortals would’ve pulled the horse up (indeed jockeys in front of him that day did so).

Not AP though who assiduously ploughed on to be beaten just 108 lengths and as a result obtain a handicap mark where he might be seen to better effect when stepping into that company.

Fujin Dancer wasn’t raised 2lbs for his win in Musselburgh given his OR was 72 in Beverley for his most recent win prior to today.

The conditions of todays race ensured that he was alloted a 6lb penalty for any race won after 6th August. As a result he carried the same weight a horse rated 78 would.

His ride on Botham also the other evening seemed to be overdone although I accept he is a horse not dissimilar to Regent’s Secret and River Falcon in that he has to be dropped in and played late.

A look back at his rides of late though does reveal a tendency to drop everything in before being played late. Can’t see Jim putting him up on Tillietudlem any time soon so!

Colm O’Donoghue gets a 1 day ban whilst doing his utmost to win the race, while Johnny Murtagh escapes with a "caution" for not doing his utmost to win a race on the same card when there was a bigger gap to go up the inner of a horse in the same ownership as his mount, Why, than there was on the inner of Fred Archer.

    Why indeed.

No chance of Robbie ever turning pro. When he won the GPT in Galway on Majestic Concorde he didn’t eat for 2 days beforehand to do 10 12lb.

Normal Saturday service resumed as Poquelin, any price was a good one on the show, wins at 7/2f with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the market filling the places.

Atouchbetweenacara the ante post fav, friendless on the day, and running accordingly.

If they aren’t backed they won’t win.

Just for the purpose of balance, I think it is only fair to mention that Kellystown Lad won in Ayr this week for the Murphy yard despite being friendless in the market at 12/1.

Although given that the odds on favourite ran out going past the stands and the second favourite looking quite reluctant on the run in, Graham Lee’s hand may have forced somewhat in this regard!
