What the hell has McCoy done to Sweeps Hill!!!!!!!!……i seriously think JP has to take action as so many of his horses are running like dogs when AP takes over

As I have said before there is nothing special about McCoy as a ‘hold-up’ jockey. These days he rarely has a mistake free round and is no longer a major asset in the big races.

Rip up your form books at Limerick – Hangover runs an absolute shocker (track and ground should have suited) – despite finishing fourth the Stewards should still ask why he effectively ran no race – and then the horse he beat last time goes and wins the last.

I agree regards McCoy what is this Hold up Nonesense he is employing.

He clearly wants to ride that way but does not have the talent to do so.

Thought Townend gave Golden Silver a majestic ride today

Don’t quote me on it but I thought he said a lot of the horses weren’t quite right at the moment.

    D’Haguenet could return this month
    Thu, 7th Jan, 2010

Willie Mullins hopes to have Mikael D’Haguenet back in action before the end of the month.

The brilliant six-year-old is unbeaten since joining Mullins, his six-race haul including last year’s Ballymore Properties Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham.

However he is yet to see the racetrack this term after a splint problem – but his return is now imminent.

“I had him up at the vets on Wednesday and they can’t really find anything, maybe just a little stiffness behind but that might just have been caused by transferring weight from the front with the splint” Mullins said.

“We are going to carry on with him and the weather is now a bigger obstacle than anything else but hopefully he will be out before the end of the month.”

Mikael D’Haguenet was expected to go over fences this term but was recently quoted for the Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle after speculation he may stick to the smaller obstacles.

“At the moment he is novice chasing. He hasn’t schooled recently but he’s run over fences in France and is a natural jumper so we’re not too unduly worried about that,” Mullins added.

“I’m not even worried about targets yet – let’s just get back to the racetrack first.”

First Lieutenant looks a right good prospect for Gigginstown. Could be the next War Of Attrition for Mouse possibly?

Fairyhouse p2p bumper up next I’d presume?

Pandorama won it a few years back for Nina. Michael O’Leary sponsors it himself. I presume First Lieutenant is qualified having already won at Kilfeacle back in January. He looks a real good prospect.

Yes it is. This was touted heavily in Ireland and I was lucky enough to get odds against today. It is a real prospect

I have criticised Gigginstown for their amateurish approach but clearly at least in bumper terms getting McNamara to ride is a huge step in the right direction.

I doubt Robbie will be an amateur for much longer especially if he gets a winner on the board at the festival. There’d be plenty of yards willing to put him up.

Could his weight be a possible problem?
Does anyone know what the minimum he can do is?

I doubt he’s heavier than the brother and he seems to get by alright

I read all the posts in this thread for the first time tonight and am impressed with the impact of Fionnegas on the contributers. Since then he was stuffed by Dunguib. What does it mean for both of them for Cheltenham ?

No chance of Robbie ever turning pro. When he won the GPT in Galway on Majestic Concorde he didn’t eat for 2 days beforehand to do 10 12lb.

Perhaps I’ve got it all wrong and they’ll be proved right, but I’m puzzled why all these journalists (and implicitly, PaddyPower) are saying that the pace of the SNH will be Dunguib’s undoing, as his jumping is quite slip-shod, and he doesn’t learn.

Well, since he’s never been out of first or second gear, I’m puzzled, because it seems to me that, instead of running with the handbrake half-on for most of the race, he’ll only have to step up to a canter. No pressure. Maybe easier? I wonder. Or would the Champion Hurdle have been easier with the smaller field (I assume)? Would the size of the field even matter? I doubt it.
