So infuriating when he jumps superbly all the way around and then just makes a shocking mistake.
Oh well
January 23, 2011 at 13:57 #337361Cant wait till Ruby is back….these big days you need the best jockey
January 23, 2011 at 13:58 #337362he was travelling really well and i think he would have won if not for that costly error
January 23, 2011 at 14:00 #337363I am certain he would have won.
Hopefully they get one more run into him and then off to the festival.
Emmet Mullins is a smart jockey and knows the horse inside out but someone like Paul Townend or Ruby just would give me more confidence.
January 23, 2011 at 15:08 #337381Bit harsh on Mullins, had the horse in a nice rhythm jumping in sync together beautifully. Horse got in to close and didn’t take off, shame as the pair were working well. Granted you would have more confidence with Walsh on board, who wouldn’t he’s class, but don’t think Mullins deserves flack for that. Think Flat out would have gone on and won, was looking good.

Flat Out was looking a good winner, but I can’t back him for his next race for the same reason I didn’t back him today, he makes mistakes, and it’s becoming a habit.
Realt Dubh is always doing the business, and he has to be the sensible mans choice for Cheltenham.
January 23, 2011 at 17:54 #337407I am certain he would have won.
How could you be certain? The first four horses were all pretty much on terms coming to the second last.
For what its worth I think Realt Dubh idled when he the front, he is extremely careful over his fences, I think the 16-1 PP have on offer is extremely good value.

It is Emmett’s ride, he will keep the ride irrespective of when Ruby returns.
January 23, 2011 at 19:29 #337415I feel he would have won because he was travelling the best and jumped the best and find plenty of the bridle…so much so that he was odds on before he fell. He is a small horse and is likely to make mistakes as poster has said.
Obviously emmet mullins has the ride and i dont think he did anything wrong but i would rather ruby walsh on anything with 4 legs or paul townened to a lesser extent.
We have seen lately the strain on Nicholls since Ruby and Noel F are unavailable to ride. Cant underestimate the factor ruby has in these horses and although he may never get the ride i love to see him on it.
January 23, 2011 at 19:43 #337418They first four were all travelling well over the third last. I’m not sure how you come to the conclusion that Flat Out would find plenty off the bridle, his last two races in Grade 1 company would suggest he doesn’t find a whole lot off the bridle, he fell in a hole in the Supreme novices hurdle two out. Just because he hit 1.66 on betfair doesn’t mean he would have won the race, Noble Prince hit 1.18 and didn’t win.

January 23, 2011 at 19:54 #337421of course he would have won. I eat my hat if he history doesn’t show that he a much better horse than realt dubh and noble prince. 2 slow boats who trainers want to step up in trip rather than stick at the 2 miles.
You say he doesnt find much of the bridle but his last run was a the way victory and he couldnt match pace with the best in the supreme. I struggle to reach such a conclusion of 2 runs that he doesnt find much of the bridle
January 23, 2011 at 20:09 #337422Noel Meade will send Realt Dubh to the Arkle, which of course you know is over two miles, he won’t be stepped up in trip to my knowledge.
As for slow boats you should be aware that today’s renewal was the fastest running in at least 10 years, fast by .2 seconds.

Noel Meade states here that he is going for the Power Gold Cup and the arkle is on the way. He has one 2 grade 1’s over 2 miles and fair enough he deserves his chance over the extended 2mile that is festival race but i dont think he place in fact i be nearly sure using noel meade record at the festival and the fact this horse has been on the go since late september which he has taken in nearly a half a dozen races. He hasnt been aimed or targeted at the arkle so he cant win the arkle. You need everything to go right and i would not be surprised if trainer misses the festival and goes for the powers gold cup.
I see the first 2 horses home as better of extended trips. We just have to wait and see John J.
In a side note that Noble Prince remind me a bit of harchibald…is a bit of a bridle horse. The owners must like their high cruising horses
January 23, 2011 at 20:20 #337425Flat Out was going very well at the time of his departure but it’s impossible to say with any degree of certainty that he would have won. 2 out is still a long way from home at Leopardstown.
As for slow boats you should be aware that today’s renewal was the fastest running in at least 10 years, fast by .2 seconds.
I haven’t researched the previous renewals but I suspect the ground today was as quick as it has been for this card TBF. I’m surprised Realt Dubh isn’t a bit shorter in the market though. On a line through Loosen My Load he should be the same price as Ghizao, if not a bit shorter.
January 23, 2011 at 21:11 #337430IC,
I think Realt Dubh is terribly underated, I actually underated himself, he is not a flashy horse, but he is still improving IMO, agree about the ground, but the first two home are certainly anything but slow. especially when you consider that Noble Prince was a decent flat horse.
