As I haven’t seen it since the demise of Tara TV just wondered who is currently on the team for RTE’s coverage? I assume Ted Walsh is still there?
Did Gary O’Brien and David Duggan do any presentation over there before being signed up by ATR?
I can remember ATR using Tamso Doyle a couple of times in their Festival coverage. As she came across as both professional and easy on the eye bit surprised they didn’t give her a regular spot.
September 25, 2010 at 22:11 #319380The anchors are Robert Hall and Ted Walsh. Tracy Piggott does interviews. Brian Gleeson sometimes with the awful Tom Lee and othertimes with the solid Johnny Ward does the betting ring/exchanges.
Gary O’Brien was new to the medium on ATR as far as I know- he is the best judge of Irish racing I’ve ever seen. The less said about his sidekick the better- has the politician’s knack of talking a lot and saying f all.September 25, 2010 at 22:18 #319382Are you referring to Dave Duggan or that jockey agent fella carvillshill?!
September 26, 2010 at 12:33 #319465The gentleman I had in mind comes from a well-connected racing family, which is the only point in his favour.
September 26, 2010 at 12:44 #319471The Jockeys agent it is then

His uncle (?) occupies a remarkably similar role on RUK too IIRC.
September 26, 2010 at 13:08 #319480One of the funniest things I’ve seen on a racing broadcast was when O’Ryan and the Voice were down at Listowel a few years ago talking about a night on the rip they had. They thought they were off air but everyone in the bookies could see and hear them on the Irish SIS broadcast!
RTÉ’s racing coverage is quite good. Ted and Bob Hall dovetail well. Ted can spiel on sometimes but he’s a refreshing change from the fence-sitters on other channels. Gleeson is a likeable fella who clearly enjoys the game. Liam Nash on their radio coverage is good but I wouldn’t be a fan of Peadar Flanagan.
September 26, 2010 at 13:13 #319483Ted is brilliant at filling in time isn’t he. Recently before one of the big 2yo races one of Aidan O’Brien’s had to be reshoed at the start and Tedyapped away for 5 mins about vets, farriers etc. Extremely funny too!
September 26, 2010 at 13:49 #319490Johnny Ward and David Duggan, if I had a euro for ever time they the said "the son/daughter of" I would be a very rich man.

Maybe milking it is a bit unfair, just annoys me when people on tv put their name to event promotion to make money.
