York.Cheltenham would still be my favourite in terms of the standard of racing. Chester is a nice day out on family fun day. And I have a real soft spot for Southwell. The pie and peas!
Ones I’d like to get to remain places like Brighton and Ayr. Abroad…. Wouldn’t mind a leisurely few hours at Garrison Savannah in Barbados!!
I have had the fortune to be in the area of Mysore India when I passed the track and took a days racing in there! Won a few rupees as well!!
May 14, 2026 at 13:16 #1766733Goodwood was a tad disappointing, for all the hype I didn’t find it that as special as they say and Toronado finally beat Dawn Approach that day too so no reason not to be keen, just didn’t feel it
Brighton is a great view, beats Goodwood for me, the only difference being the standard of racing
Ascot I love… Cheltenham is busy but I’ve been so many times, I have a precision routineOf the ones I haven’t been to Bath is on the agenda with my lad going Uni there in September

May 14, 2026 at 13:24 #1766735I have visited them all at least once. And two tracks which are now defunct: Towcester and Folkestone. Although I keep hearing rumours of Towcester coming back.
I have been to 15 of the 26 tracks in Ireland.
The only track I have visited outside of Britain and Ireland is Belmont Park.
May 14, 2026 at 13:30 #1766737The way to experience Goodwood is via a picnic on the Trundle. OK you don’t get to judge a tight finish but you have a great overview of the whole course and on a good day the sea. And you have early access to and from the car park and it’s all free! Then you’re among the first to hit the The Fox Goes Free at Charlton with it’s glorious back garden!
May 14, 2026 at 14:52 #1766749Goodwood is one of my favourite tracks. I often used to attend when I lived in London. It was a bit of an effort getting there on public transport but it was always worth it.
I even quite enjoyed it when a sea fret rolled in from the Channel, something which also affects Brighton and I believe happened at Lewes as well.
May 14, 2026 at 17:28 #1766790Yes CAS I’ve got towcester on my poster and I went there once around 05 so shows you how out of date the printing of the poster is as my sister only got me it as a Xmas present maybe 2 or 3 years ago.
Killarney! Now that looks a sight to behold.
Sha Tin! That would be a bucket list venue. But happy valley looks the more fun!
May 14, 2026 at 17:31 #1766791Nathan I can highly recommend an upgrade on the standard entry ticket at Bath to the bar on the 2nd floor of the hospitality stand. The name escapes me but it’s a great view of the course and the final half furlong.
A few beers in the main square and a meal in the giggling squid Thai restaurant will help you and your lad enjoy a lovely little night whenever you go! I’m actually going with my family for the end of July Friday night meeting.
May 14, 2026 at 17:31 #1766793I popped up trundle hill on the way home from Fontwell last year and it is indeed a cracking view from there.im determined to go there for a day of the Glorious meeting to see what it’s like

One of the Irish tracks I have not visited but is at top of my list.
I have been through the town and seen the scenery. I travelled through on the bus from Cork to Tralee, where I stayed when I went to Listowel.
I never managed to get to Tralee racecourse before it closed, unfortunately.
May 14, 2026 at 17:38 #1766795I remember the one betting shop in the village where I grew up had a map on the wall which showed the location of all the racecourses. It must have been put up some time in the early 1970s because it still had Lanark and Stockton in Britain, and Tuam and Baldoyle in Ireland!
May 14, 2026 at 18:14 #1766805I’ve only been to eight across England and Wales, nine if you count staggering across Worcester drunk and lost

I have also been to two overseas. The now defunct Kranji in Singapore which I didn’t like much, perhaps a night meeting would have been better. Happy Valley was brilliant, as was Hong Kong in general. Great atmosphere and at around £1 the best value entry fee you’ll find anywhere, just had to tap the same card you use on the metro to get in.
May 14, 2026 at 18:31 #1766815Cheap entry is a consequence of a Tote monopoly, of course.
It was only $2 to get into Belmont Park for a ten race card with two Grade 1s, three other graded races and five other competitive contests. Even the opening race, little better than a low grade handicap, was worth $50,000.
Punters were screwed over by the take-outs from the Tote pool, though.
May 14, 2026 at 20:25 #1766830I would definitely recommend at trip to Garrison Savanah TC. I was over there for the cricket a good while back and the Barbados Gold Cup was on. It was quite busy and then about an hour before the big race the crowd trebled in size, people spilled out onto the track and the race was delayed by half an hour.
The favourite and apparent good thing called “Apostle” got stuck in the stalls as hid trap didn’t open properly. I thought there was going to be a riot as all the angry punters kicked off. Tremendous day all round.
The larkspur bar in Leopardstown grandstand is the best place to be for a days racing, complete luxury.
May 14, 2026 at 23:03 #1766837Internationally
– Cork
– Pau
– Happy Valley
– KyotoHV / Kyoto were class.
I spent a LOT of money in the gift shop at Kyoto. It was a very smart / modern course. The architecture reminded me a bit of Ascot. Crowd were polite / engaged. Nobody that I could see staggering about drunk like you see in the UK.
The night I went to HV there seemed to be an Oktoberfest theme. Very cheap to get in. Large betting turnover on the night. Good atmosphere racing under lights. The winning horses would do a “lap of honour” past the stands. You were so close to the rail you could just about touch the jockey’s hand when they passed.
Hoping to go to Seoul next year.
May 15, 2026 at 01:55 #1766844Loved Goodwood and always enjoyed the festival back in the day. Perhaps it’s changed now, many events have as they have taken a much more commercial route. I really liked York, although but again, perhaps its all changed since those days.
I was surprised how many I have actually been to when I totalled them up.

They’re all so different and special in their own way. I don’t think people realise what a posh place Southwell is. I’d love to live there but it does flood quite badly. Longchamp was the best value. Mike was going to take me to the Melbourne Cup one year but our dog was getting old and I wasn’t prepared to leave her in kennels for several weeks. We’ve got a lockdown dog now that can’t be left home alone so the only track we go to is Kelso because it’s so dog friendly. My least favourite was Chepstow, didn’t like the lay out of the place especially the pre parade ring which is usually my go to place on a racetrack. Worst place for finding winners was Punchestown and that hasn’t changed in the intervening years.May 15, 2026 at 11:04 #1766856Sandown
