How and why have they demoted the winner there? Crazy decision.
Mouse and O’Leary will have to appeal that. Hopefully common sense will eventually prevail.
September 26, 2010 at 14:33 #319498Should stewards like this be deciding anything to do with horse racing? Is corruption a possibility?
September 26, 2010 at 14:34 #319499Won’t do the poor punters any good.
Sad, mad and bad.September 26, 2010 at 14:36 #319501As seems to be the majority thoughts from the emails on attheraces, it’s arguably the worst stewards decision I’ve ever seen.
How they could kick the winner out for that is beyond belief?
There ought to be a stewards enquiry about that stewards enquiry IMO.
Disgraceful!

It would take a miracle for an Irish steward to throw out an Aiden O Brien horse (and there has been easily 2 clear cut cases where they shoudl of been this season) and yet they reverse this decision today.
Disgraceful work from the stewards, just disgraceful. When things like this happen you can hardly blame people for thinking horse racing is dodgy.
If horse racing as an industry wants to grow, and not shrink then the current Irish stewarding panel needs to be looked at with changes made to the current panel.
As far as I know these guys don’t get paid, nobody is questioning their loyaly or dedication, but their ability is definitely questionable

Gigginstown are hardly a small operation themselves.
September 26, 2010 at 15:05 #319504The most ridiculous stewarding decision I have ever seen. Farcical. I think the Clonmel stewards have been on the Magners.

Maybe we should just accept that stewards in all sports can make the most idiotic mistakes???
Anyone see the Liverpool v Sunderland match yesterday?

The thing that makes horse racing stewards worse is that they have video replays to lookover whereas most other sports are split second decisions and perhaps can be forgiven.
Its just a disgrace no matter what way you look at it.
September 26, 2010 at 15:52 #319518An unbelievable decision, how on earth they came to that conclusion, the inevitable appeal will be successful no comfort for the punter im afraid. Anybody know the qualification to be an irish steward?

I’m not sure how one becomes a steward but as far as I know it’s voluntary and they don’t get paid so I doubt they really have that many people to choose from
Once again I’m not questioning stewards commitment or loyalty, im questioning their ability to steward.
Easy to see why people laugh at Irish racing sometimes, and on this occasion think they will find it be difficult for anyone to stand up for them

Incidents like this make you think maybe UEFA are right not to introduce video replays in football!!!
September 26, 2010 at 16:37 #319532Only just seen this. Watched back on atr player and from side on I’m surprised there was even an enquiry. Couldn’t see anything that would cause a change of result – and I’m a firm believer in French rules over Irish and UK ones.
Nothing surprises me with Irish stewards though. I was caught out twice this year by Galway stewards not applying their own rules. Is there not a stipe to guide amateur stewards? And anyways surely it isn’t that hard to read and apply their own rule book.
And while we’re on about Irish officials where do we get our starters from. Some of them would struggle to get a two runner race off without a false start. They are turning Irish racing into an even bigger joke than it was.

Does anything about Irish racing really suprise anyone???
They said Ireland was the Wild West of the banking industry in that there were no laws and you could get away with anything.
It’s the same really with Irish horse racing…
September 26, 2010 at 17:05 #319535After that nothing would ever surprise me again,
DigracefulSeptember 26, 2010 at 18:20 #319548Don’t think it is as clear cut.
Watching it live, I wondered why the winning jockey seemed to just let his mount collide with his rival. Without any attempt to change whip hands. In fact, seemed to me he continued to whip it on the wrong shoulder after contact was made. So the jockey made no attempt that I could see to rectify the situation. The winner could have lost valuable momentum had the jockey done the right thing; and the second horse lost momentum instead of maintaining momentum.
So it would have been quite tight in the finish. Shouldn’t the victim get the benefit of the doubt?Had I been a steward, I’d have let the winner keep it, but it would’ve been a marginal decision. I can’t blame the stewards at Clonmel for reversing it.
