But is O’Donnell not actually another ‘front’ for Barney?

Party Politics was a famous horse who was ‘tubed’. Apparently made a noise like a train whistle when running.

Certainly looks like there will be a chnging of the guard in the hurdle ranks in 2007/08. Another one to consider is Dermot Weld’s Bobs Pride. Looked rejuvenated this spring. Came home (virtually) on the bridle in a decent handicap hurdle at the Punchestown Festival against strong age and racing weight stats. Given his flat class doesnt take a great leap of imagination to see him as a contender.
So have you heard there’s going to be a reversion in tactics? Nickname has been held up off the pace on every run this season.

It’s sometimes hard to tell whether a misspelt name is artful or not. At least it makes them distinctive. And I always loved being deliberate about the pronunciation of Risk Aksessor!

Irish Stamp, I believe Reisk is an Irish parish name.

Apparently the boxer’s name was Teofilio. But, irrespective, the horse’s name is Teofilo.

He joins the list of horses with misspelt names such as Risk Accessor, Definate Spectacle, Colnel Rayburn et many al

With the form of his Cheltenham run boosted today by Monets Garden and Taranis in the Melling Chase, Billyvoddan looks the real class act and the outstanding remaining ‘value’ in the National at 20/1.

Of course, there are the doubts about this being his first run over the fences and the blinkers, which some construe as a negative for the big race. However, in top form, lightly-raced this season and young enough to be still improving, unexposed at the trip and with enough encouragement on Ascot run and breeding that he will stay. The one horse who might run away with it.

I think what AP says is particularly true in respect of the New hurdles course. The long sections on the flat late in the race make it a difficult course for jockeys to ride, I believe, let alone punters to bet on. Would Black Harry and Osana have won their respective races had they been run on the Old Course? They both certainly ran well against the bias.

It could be argued that there is a shape of race-track which provides optimum conditions for horses to race. On the Flat I am always wary of courses with finishing straights much longer than two furlongs. It’s said that horses can only sustain their top speed for two furlongs so it must be ideal if a turn takes the pace out of a race inside the final half-mile with the straightening up providing the cue to go for the final effort. In terms of Irish Flat racing I find that the Curragh, Cork and Limerick can produce messy finishes and false results for this reason, especially in handicaps where pounds and lengths can be lost by ill-judged finishing moves. I see Leopardstown as being ideal as a Flat track.

Similarly with jump racing the second-last is often the cue for the final move and this could be said to be true of Cheltenham’s Old hurdles course. If the jockey takes this idea onto the New course the outcome can be less pleasant eg. Osana in the County Hurdle.
Isn’t that always the way on Polytrack?

Sure it makes for competitive handicaps with exciting finishes but if the future in America is this surface (as is reported) then the Breeder’s Cup will be turned into a luck-in-running farce.

    Thanks for the replies.

The horse I am interested in is Great Hope, a now 4yo filly trained last year by Jim Bolger. Given she is owned by the trainer’s wife and related to such as Sholokhov and Napper Tandy I think it’s long odds-on they will breed from her ultimately.

Just I would have been interested in her as a racehorse were she still on the go in 2007.
I can’t uderstand the fuss about blogs. What do they offer above and beyond what has been widely available in the form of personal websites since the mid-90s?

It reminds me of Oasis who sounded everything like something you’d heard before.
Tom Segal has tipped Nil Desperandum. :o

prospero, I dont see Dun Doire being able to keep – he is slow. And ND just doesn’t win races. All of this, of course, can only be offered with the qualifier ‘imo’!

by the way, good to see a familiar name on this forum ;)

The HRA might soon have to look at the possibility that it is the horses themselves who fix the races.
