I hope Duggs had the funds remaining for yesterday’s two 11/1 winners (Convincing and Pearl’s A Singer)…
Aranalde,
The betting/horse racing industry is booming and there are so many more opportnities now than there were even five years ago. Obviously if you want out of an ‘office job’ that limits your opportunities, but I would recommend going through betting and racing media websites once a week for job opportunities and registering with agencies like pentasia and bettingjobs. There are lots of website admin jobs – betfair is always worth looking at. And once you’re in, as wallace says, other opportunities can become available. After that as with any work environment it all comes down to ambition and personality.

I doubt there are many breeders who set out to breed a Champion Hurdle winner. Indeed I doubt there are many breeders who worry much about breeding racehorses at all. On the other hand, I dont doubt there are many breeders who are looking to produce horses who ‘sell well’.
Big day for Duggs today… He’s staked out 21 pts on the racing at Leopardstown… :o
What size bank does this man use?
Quote: from Aidan on 8:29 pm on Jan. 8, 2007[br]Lads in ATR do not help feeding his ego either…
Mate, I have absolutely no doubt this is an ‘in-joke’ led by Mr Chapman. David Duggan must have been down 100s of points in 2006, given is ott staking and basic lack of winners.
Quote: from Aidan on 1:07 pm on Dec. 20, 2006[br]At present, the gross prize money won by the winning owner in the lowest value Irish races comes to roughly €5,600, and the Board felt that it would be beneficial to raise this figure closer to the €6,000 mark.
At least they get some back. What seems to go unhighlighted in all these fanfares about prize-money in Ireland is that most of it is funded by the owners in the first place. With maiden hurdles and low-grade handicaps receiving up to 200 entries that’s a lot of excess money being generated when the cost of entry is 0.9% of the value of a race which is already funded by HRI and often by a sponsor.
[br]Yes owners pay no entry fee if they declare to run and are balloted out. Yet, what % of owners’ money is ‘lost’ by trainer’s failing to declare because they know they are going to be balloted out? This happens quite a lot. It’s a strange situation when an owner has to sign over responsiblity for his financial business to a trainer who then may neglect his duties for lack of pecuniary motivation on his side. To think, they were originally ‘hired help’; when did the balance of status and power swing? ;)
Since it seems to be so easy to ‘decide’ to have a winner, I don’t understand why most of these yards don’t do it more often.
cheers, gd
does that mean it’s a grade 1? will the emblem chase still exist at kempton in early 2007?

Quote: from trackside528 on 9:50 pm on Dec. 16, 2006[br]but I strongly disagree that Footy Facts will start favourite tommorrow..

And it looks like you’re right
Lads,
You’re coming over all know-all without actually saying what prices you think these horses will be or what prices they should be…
Footy Facts will be favoured over Aran Concerto and Le Toscan is a contender…
dj, I don’t think you should doubt the strength of this form. Hi Cloy and Nickname simply couldn’t get to the leaders in the last half-mile and both finished out their races well enough to suggest that there were no excuses for them. The time of the race compares suitably favourably to both the handicap chase and the Novices race run over track-and-trip later on the card. Yeah, the 135-rated Sher Beau in third place casts a question but he is young enough for it to be plausible that he has improved (he did win a Grade 1 as a Novice hurdler). The result suggests he merits a ratings rise of upwards of 20lb and I would expect him to run up to that again.

Horse of the Year: Hedgehunter (definitely the star among horses who failed to win a race in 2006!)
Trainer of the Year: Adrian McGuinness
Jockey of the Year: Ruby Walsh
Poster of the Year:apracing
So you’d snap up the Life’s forecast 3/1 then AP?
Quote: from thedarkknight on 11:52 am on Dec. 6, 2006[br] I would guess that it won’t be too long before the off course firms just set their own shows right through to the off (as Blue Square do now)
They can then set their own prices and be as competitive as they want to be -much like any other business….

not likely though, tdk, given bookmakers’ abhorrence of conceding arbitrage opportunities. the bookmakers like the current ‘show’ and ‘sp’ system for this basic reason.
odds comparison sites? those are not for punter, they’re for bookmakers to consolidate their prices. free market, me arse.
