In the words of a much-loved Irish TV character, ‘Go on, ye good thing!’ ;)
Ok, enough, his rival needs a nickname…
[br]How about we call him Mo’F’er?
‘Azzy’, ‘Zerty’, ‘Azerty’… how many nicknames does this horse need? If there was an emoticon for ‘cringe’ (maybe there is?) I’d use it now…
The horse is called ‘Azertyuiop’, spelt ‘A-z-e-r-t-y-u-i-o-p’…
Grasshopper, Moscow Flyer’s jumping is fine and most importantly he has no ability inadequacies!
Listen,
Its like this, can you Azertyuiop fans actually see it in your minds eye, the two horses together from the Pond fence, Barry Geraghty on Moscow Flyer, think last year, who’s going to win it? Let’s be frank about this, all excuses aside, it wasn’t even a race last year. MF was in front pulling a cart from the Railway fences and never even looked like being challenged. Azertyuiop wasn’t fit? He still finsished second. Seemingly he carried condition yesterday as well yet was able to put up his lifetime best performance. There was more truth and merit in last year’s Tingle Creek than people are willing to remember.
Ok, TDK, Well Chief will take a chunk of the market but essentially what we are talking about here is a match bet between Azertyuiop and Moscow Flyer.
You mention the fact that MF started at 6/4 at Sandown last year… but Azertyuiop started at 2/1. In the Champion Chase it was 5/6 v 15/8… in favour of Moscow Flyer. The betting market has assumed MF’s supremacy, shall we say.
So while Azertyuiop deserves credit for doing the business last March and again for defying his handicap rating yesterday, the fact remains that he still has not proven his supremacy over Moscow Flyer where it really matters and rings true ie. on a racecourse where they both finish and produce their best effort. Why would the betting market suddenly assume such supremacy?
That said, I do accept that Azertyuiop will be favoured this time round, for the reasons of age and improvement given here, but there certainly won’t be that much in it. 5/6 plays 6/5?
TDK, do you think people would be interested in backing Moscow Flyer at 5/2? At 2/1 even? I’ll be surprised if he’s as long as 6/4…
[br]Would you back Azertyuiop at 2/5?
Quote: from thedarkknight on 8:33 am on Nov. 3, 2004[br]at 2 miles I would be 2-5 Azertyuiop, 5-2 Moscow, 25 Best Mate).

So Moscow Flyer will be a 5/2 shot at Sandown? (I dopubt that very much…) To quote myself, ‘Bring it on!’
Azertyuiop: easy to type on a keyboard less easy to write with a pencil!
Quote: from Arazi on 7:04 pm on Nov. 2, 2004[br]time is not on Moscow Flyer’s side.
Fair enough, but the Tingle Creek is on in a few weeks – its unlikely MF will have to be destroyed due to arthritis in the meantime! He was still winning Grade 1 races when last seen little over six months ago and surely he deserves the benefit of the doubt.
[br]What age was Badsworth Boy when he won his last Champion Chase by a distance?
Bring it on!
The consensus here seems to be that it will be a shock if Moscow Flyer beats so-called ‘Azerty’ at Sandown. Just so we get things in perspective… Moscow Flyer FELL at Cheltenham last March and has never been beaten in a Chase in which he has finished. Prior to that he was classy over hurdles, arguably better than Azertyuiop, and good enough, least we forget, to finish second in the Paddy Powered-Virtual Champion Hurdle in 2001!
[br]The only time time these two have completed a race against each other… Moscow Flyer WON! Why can people be so certain that Azertyuiop will beat him next time?
The Tingle Creek will be a cracker – I believe Moscow Flyer can beat Azertyuiop
Very sharp of Lesley Graham when she turned to Barry Dennis for the Bismarck:[br]
’So, time to pick a loser…’
Thanks for that information and explanation, Richard…
Sorry to resurrect this one…
I’ve just been wondering what the term ‘Regional Racing’ refers to? When I first read the phrase I thought maybe it related to racing restricted to horses trained in specific (geographical) regions. But no, from what I can gather the only thing that distinguishes it from other all-weather racing is that it is restricted to lower-rated horses. Surely the term doesn’t derive from the fact that these horses are in the ‘lower regions’ of the handicap?!
She’s Our Mare
A remarkable and profitable dual-purpose handicapper. First time I really copped on to her was when she won a 10f handicap at Leopardstown, really surging away in the final furlong. Went on to win three further handicaps in each code culminating in the Swinton Hurdle and the Cambridgeshire in the same year, 1999.
I’m already checking on her offspring: a yearling filly by Desert Prince and a colt foal by Montjeu – surely a future classic winner!
So Rooster Booster is the best hurdler of the last 30 years? Didnt realise you held him in such high esteem. What about Istabraq and See You Then, both three-time winners of the race? Are you sure your real name is not ‘Came Cottage’? ;)
Anyway, this is stupid thread, Maurice – I don’t know why I’m helping you perpetuate it.
