Hello,

I wrongly called the lead detective, "Taggart", he of course was played by a wooden actor called McManus, who subsequently died of Dutch Elm Disease in the nineties, I think.

Further useless info. the plank of an actor was also the brother of a lad called Connelly who fronted the "pop" group SWEET….I digress, he is also brown bread.

Damn, I am turning into Thommo…..:o

    Hello,

EXCELLENT point by davidbrady re: YES SIR and, according to the trainer, a definite KG runner.
I read the RP article, and have re-read it.
It almost drives you to ante-post punt, and the price indeed collapsed.
In fact it is one of the most definitive piece of ADVERTISING the fact a good price is available, practically urging everyone to take an each way bet.
Then, bang, the horse is switched and the layers on the Exchanges win a fortune.
Surely there should be an interest shown by the regulators.
It can appear people can "win" money without the horse taking part in a race, no jockey issues involved.

I think Mr Bowen may have took some flack as he has come out and stated he was entered for the Novice, "so there!" But surely he must now note that his King George "get on" article was somewhat foolhardy :(

    Hello,

Yep, the computer selected me as :o
What a lucky bunch we are !!!:)

I, of course, shall not be phoning them…I am a bit fed up of the relentless stream of correspondence from "ultra successful gamblers" who want ME to put some money on a horse for them and forward them the winnings…What a lovely scam….collecting dosh for nowt.

You could actually give dumb callers approx. 40 horses’ between them, say 8 may win, and the fools will send you cash… Only the cost of postage will be the loss if none win, but that is unlikely.

What bugs me is where do they get our addresses from. It MUST be from a bookie, as they are the only people who have my address for racing purposes [statements and the VERY occasional cheque!].
Anyway, some body in the Racing industry are selling our addresses. :(

It must be racing as the letters are targeted to race enthusiasts…

    Hello,

It is interesting we are debating the flaws of a red hot cert. Unintentionally we maybe disguising the fact the 2006 KG field is rather weak!
There is some serious NH jumpers out there that are FIT but not taking part???
The going is expected to suit all types, the course is very easy and the trip at this course appears to be well in the compass of 2m to 3.5m horses..so why ain’t there more than 12 chasing this excellent prize money ??

If a horse is fit and well it should be racing..not sitting in a heated stable munching on designer food!

    Hello,

Many, many years ago Owen Brennan used to "treat" his staff with some good laid out horses, usually at Towester, Sedgefield the smaller meetings on Boxing Day.
Not only to win, but some interesting Novice Hurdlers, and big odds, would land a place! ;)

    Hello,

The 3 miles at Kempton will be no problem.
Remember shouting home two 2 m chasers a couple of years ago?? Eredon Bleu and Tuitchev ! :)

Therefore I fear NO stamina issues. However, I still think good going and speed maybe KS chink in the armour.
I have mentioned before KS takes off slightly early, [reason for his demise at Cheltenham, not the Sun!],
his recent races have been on easy ground with no fast pace.
At the Tingle, one has to take into account the mayhem caused mid race where a probably half of the field were affected from dramatically to slightly, by a faller. That indeed created a two horse race.

I am in the corner that if KS stands up he wins…but 2/5 is abit skinny for the standing up bit! ;)
Hello,

Th only definite indicator I use about a stable being out of form is when, due to illness, the establishment is closed !! ;)

One cannot simply use "horses’ not winning" as a pointer to a stable out of form.
The previous example of NTD’s early form can easily be broken down. His dirth of winners since early season is entirely due to :

    >The quality of race entered,
> the horses’ early strikes will not have gone unnoticed by the H’Capper, and penalities would have been applied making it harder to win.

How many times do you hear Trainers state,
" Ground, trip OK, bit competitive, BUT WE HAVE NO WHERE ELSE TO GO…due to the horse’s rating.

    > Owners pressure. Most owners want their horse out of the box and on the track. The trainer of moderate horses’ are pressured to enter a race which the animal is not quite up to for various reasons.

Basically, it is the type of race entered, if a stable enters it’s early season stars into better races’ all within , say, three weeks, and are all duly beaten….it would be incorrect to label the stable out of form!

    Hello,

Maybe someone who gets the mail ,daily , could carry out, say, a month’s exercise to see how "first for New Trainers’" horses’ perform.
Although limited. some sort of statistic could be formulated and maybe enhanced later.
I have no problems with DJ’s statement about "invaluable", but mentioning recent successes does not really help, so I hope a little research may support DJ’s earlier quote! :)

[PS: i win’t take the Mail on Political Grounds!!]
Hello,

    In 1989 I backed Norton’s Coin to Cheltenham GC @ 200/1
That, I am afraid, was my only resounding Ante-Post success. Some other small victories, but invariably, the SP or early morning price on the day wasn’t too far off the A.P. price taken. :(
I wouldn’t dream of taking Betfair A.P. as you may all aware, some owners and trainers ALLEGEDLY put up their horses’ knowing full well they ain’t going to run !! :o
Over the last 5 years or so, Bookie Ante Post prices’ are incredibly skinny to have any interest in them.
However, carrying out research in the week leading up to a significant race like tomorrow’s could yield fruit.
FRom your enquiries, you are positive the animal is going to run, a juicy price can be obtained even the night before.
With knowledge in hand, you can eliminate one of the most annoying factors of a non runner.

My "enquiries" are usually in the simplest form of phoning the trainer and asking him!!!! :)

    Hello,

I think the Legal fees will be paid for by "The Guiding Mind", indiscreetly of course
The fraud will be probably operating as a cell structure. Many individuals involved in various ways, but interconnected.
They will not want one of the members to go down. Could bring to the surface all sorts of problems, especially if convicted, Shane turns Queens Evidence

    Hello,

Having visited and have knowledge of Race Tracks all over the world, I can safely say that the UK are easily the most expensive in the world :(
In the USA some tracks hand out gifts as you waltz in FREE..
Anyone that has been to Longchamp would know how cheap it is!
My visit of about 6 years ago, Arc Meeting, £7.00 covering both Saturday and Arc Day Sunday..also you can go virtually anywhere on the course!
I also noted the racing was "slightly" better than Lingfield, Southwell and Wolverhampton Dogs! ;)

Australia is similar to the USA, low admission and sometimes free!!

At the back of my mind I believe Towcester had " Free" Days, which were apparently very successful.
Courses can carry on charging for Saturdays, appears to be populated by Stag and Hen Parties anyway!, and on occasional Big Race Days, but Fakenham or Kelso on a Wednesday should be FREE!!!!

As I may have mentioned before my love affair with the Cheltenham Festival hit the rails after they started to charge £60 a day….disgrace!
I availed myself with a £40.00 Return ticket to Malaga for a week, and watched the Festival in the Sun with good food, cheap beer and literally scores of like minded race fans sick to death of being ripped off by Colonel Blimp and his cavalry mates!!

    hello,

There is a flaw in KAUTO STAR’s jumping that worries me greatly.
The horse tends to take off too early ! :(
If clearing the fence, it looks and always commented as a "Spectacular Jump…"
However as demonstarted last year at Cheltenham, his early take off led to an early landing!
Some commentators stated " The Sun was in his eyes.."
..as it was with the other 15 or so comabatants. They jumped soundly and I did not notice any of them wearing sun-glasses!

I think he will get the distance if standing up, but if you a back a horse that is termed " a brave jumper..", you have to take the chance that he will fall!!

Last season’s Betfair chase was a joke, as someone previously mentioned, 4 x fences were omitted and BEEF OR SALMON would surely have won if the full course was up for jumping.
I have a feeling BOS is just an ordinary horse, but with KINGSCLIFFE in decline, the uncertainty of L’AMI’s right trip, OLLIE’s erratic form…BOS looks the likely winner.
