Fair Along was mightily impressive. Attacked his fences with relish. Ran on well up the hill. Got all the 4yo allowances granted but difficult to think it possible to be more impressive on a chasing debut.

Can’t help but feel I’d want to take him on in a similar Grade next time. I backed Fair Along on Saturday mainly because I thought he was up against hurdlers of a similar ability, but was receiving a huge weight allowance, not just the age allowance but because his other rivals had penalties. Natal I think needs further, and Penzance has limited scope as a chaser. Obviously his jumping should ensure he continues to give a good account of himself but I think that was a weakish race for the Grade/recent history of the race. Can’t say I have a horse for the Arkle at the minute, although I was impressed by Conna Castle and Glenfinn Captain on their recent chase debuts.

i expect he will have a few more runs, quite quickly i would imagine, possibly being beaten in winter ground. then mr hobbs will give him a break and bring him back for the arkle. hopefully at a biggish price as he was for the triumph hurdle last year. then watch him go!

<br>Can’t say I disagree with you mate. I backed him too thought if he jumped he’d have a great chance against Natal who wants further and quicker and Penzance who is a decent marker but short of top class. I think Fair Along will be very difficult to beat in small field races where he can dominate races but at Cheltenham if he’s taken on and has to face the hustle and bustle I wouldn’t be certain he wouldn’t get collared up the hill.

Great attitude though and an excellent jumper.

Reminded me of Ashley Brook in the way he races, I was impressed, not sure if he’s quite good enough but I haven’t seen a better performance by a 2m novice this year.

A 5yo most likely. Hardly a new trend, the progressively younger age at which horses are ‘peaking’ at chasing, but becoming ever more the norm. Another 6yo winner of the Paddy Power Gold Cup. Two recent Hennessy winners of the same age, two placed last year and a 5yo fav this term. How long before we have a 6yo winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup? Or a 7yo winner of the National?

Let’s hope he does better on it this time than at Galway. Gave the horse far too much to do in a steadily run  race behind Vic Venturi.

Agree Grasshopper, speedy, flat track winning hurdlers who barely stay 2m on a stiffer course, usually are the types to make 2m chasers.

I will have a dabble with B. Vista.

Absolutely Doyley – but not in the Arkle methinks!  I’m hoping for a JHJ nervous chase double – Lennon in the Arkle and Hard Act To Follow in the RSA.  Dopey here has had the ew doub at 33 apiece…..

More than happy with 33/1 about Lennon!

I’d guess at either the RSA or the Jewson Novices.  I’m a big fan (indeed I’d been waiting for him to debut over fences for a year and had a lump on accordingly when he did) but he has his holes – I also feel that Hard Act To Follow is a superior animal.
