Hello,
The best name I came across was an Irish hurdler:
ARCH STANTON.
Remember the Clint Eastwood Film, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. [Could apply that to this Forum…]
At the end, good old Clint left a baddie precariously standing on a grave cross with a rope round his neck. If he fell…he was history.
The name on the grave was ARCH STANTON….:)
I like it…
Another terrible name was a flat horse called ABSOLUTELY FACT, that came across totally different when the race was covered by a Southern commentator. :(

Hi,
Even if all run, those prices, overall, appear too compressed to me.
I certainly would not entertain any ante-post on any Handicap at The Festival, simply, as you corrcetly put it, they may not run!!
Secondly, I am being a cynical, mean spirited, conspiracy theorist here….a trainer could easily put up his horse for a particular race, only to withdraw it nearer the day, and make a handsome profit…without spoon feeding you, I am implying the use of EXCHANGES!!
But surely our GB and Irish gentlemen trainers’ would never even consider such a devious project…
God, I feel dirty for even suggesting such a wheeze, I shall admonish myself severely, whip myself [ala Mad Monk from Da Vinci]…and LAY down :(

Hello,
The secret for an enjoyable day..is get there early !!
The Itabraq bar is open at 10:30ish…If you have a reasonable amount of beer prior to 12:40, the bar throngs later are irrelevant ..
Anyway, the Guinness Bars are very quick.
Don’t be put off by a phalanx of men at the bar, they soon dwindle down as the Guinness Taps are running continually.
The Club badge is definitely better value than Tatts.
The bars prior to racing are clearer.
Get ALL your bets on early, possibly every race covered prior to the first race. Don’t worry yourself about getting "the best price" and all that crap, overall it does not make a blind bit of difference, swings & roundabouts etc.
If arriving early at the station, Walk to the Course !!, and likewise, walk back…don’t be put off by some of the contributing lazy forumites, it ain’t far !! ;)
As for Food,… get a grip son !!
It is only one day and your excitement and copious amounts of Guinness will head off those hunger pangs.
Start with a good brekkie and bring a buttie with you [Not a Picnic Basket!]
Viewing: The racecourse is like a roller coaster, so if you position yourself early you should see something thru the alcoholic haze, and the big screen helps.
For the last race before you head off, watching from just past the winning post is handy.
Also, if you do head for the wretched bus back to the station. Boarding ain’t easy…it reminds me of disembarking the Titanic..a mad surge…and there is no respect for women, children and vomiting drunkards like me! Possibly they have more police now than my day..
Just enjoy, don’t get hung up about the pushing and shoving, there ain’t anything you can do about it!!

Hello,
I don’t wish to be a fuddy duddy, but there ain’t too much wrong with the site from what I can see :)
I am not exactly an I.T. specialist and there maybe some tweaks needed here or there behind the scenes, but overall it works fine, navigation is acceptable and layout easy on the eye! Good links etc.
Complete overhaul ain’t necessary really, let’s not ruin anything by fixing something that ain’t broke :)

Hello,
Yep, should have had a grand winner with Kings Signal a few weeks back, but given a diabolical ride over 2m by Aspell
Ironically, AP, Brennan, Ruby were available to ride in the race, probably Mr Hogan is just not that well known yet to approach them :)

Hello,
What on earth was that post for ??
There is absolutely no reason why constructive critisism should not be aired on the forum, when sensibly supported.
So come on Jilly let’s read your comments on why you don’t like the guy or his training techniques !!
Oh, by the way being a proud owner of multiple chins, I am quite offended !! :) :) ÂÂÂ

Hello,
I think I will go against the "obvious" Irish who I think, with the majority of them, have had their chance and victories.
I am still siding with my pre-season choice, NOBLE REQUEST, I cannot see it out of the first 3, and the run in the Tote Trophy will be a big indicator as he will be carrying top weight.
There was absolutely nothing wrong with ACAMBO’s last victory and I was very impressed with it’s performance at Haydock last year [Swinton]. This animal could be actually improving, again The Tote will give us more information.
A bold display from the above two could make their current Betfarce trading mark of around 40s very generous indeed. ;)

Hello,
One point I did note yesterday is that the Irish H’Capper appears to have let in POINT BARROW and ADAMANT APPROACH in fairly lightly ?
Maybe the rest of the field were too high ???

Hello,
Regarding "..my Ratings..", Dj, I used to get the Black Book like yourself, but over the last couple of years I have become very confused.
Probably I wouldn’t if only the TF was taken as read, as it is usually "fair".
In recent years, however, high ratings have been allocated to horses after minimum evidence, i.e. 3 races, or like the Kauto Star Rating which is a frown on my brow, but that is another debate!:)
Also, the introduction of the other "Rating" peoples’ discussed on this thread and other media has now thrown this old man into disarray!
After yesterday’s Opera run and before today’s run I would have TROUBLE @ 140. without the "p" ;)
Unfortunately my cherished guide, Timeform, does look a bit tired now, as someone mentioned on this forum some time ago. It was superb when it was the only acceptable "Bible". Probably that is why they now have a habit of "over rating" to compete in some way with other Rating Systems…
Hello,
I haven’t got race stats. on hand at present, so please correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t Trouble at Bay attain his lofty perch for the beating of OPERA DE COUER ?? [Timeform Rating at start of season: 126p]
Although ODC was selected by Timeform 50 to Follow, another dismal display yesterday demonstrates Trouble’s inaccurate rating.

Hello,
without doubt, one of the best jockey’s ever, a master at work.
However, from snippets I read and gleamed over the years, not an overly likeable chap. As previously mentioned, obsessed by money.
Also, I don’t think Charity entered his vocabulary.
Of course, the perception of his off handedness probably grew due to his speech impediment, which ain’t his fault. But I am quite sure he also used this slight disability to his advantage on many occasions.
I remember a story about him riding a horse for Hollinshead, I believe. It won unexpectedly, thanks to Lester, who, of course wanted paying!!
Reg was a new trainer, and a bit short of dosh at the time, of which he explained to Lester.
" I believe you are a Farmer, Reg " queried Lester.
Hollinshead nodded…..Lester duly left the course with a large sack of spuds in his boot!!
There are numerous, similar stories about the great man, which will undoubtedly be forthcoming in his obituary, in many years to come, hopefully.
