Since taking over last Autumn I’ve been reviewing various aspects of the forum, with particular regard to the future development of the site. In this context I have recently enlisted the help of some specialists who have assisted me with that review and who will be working with me to deliver the technological and design enhancements that are necessary to ensure the forum continues to thrive and develop (basically the technology is out-dated and no longer supported and the site design places limitations on what we can do to enhance the site, add new features, etc).

Consequently, we are planning to take significant steps over the next few months to make improvements to tRF in order to make your experience a better one. Broadly, these improvements are likely to include the following:

    1. Upgrading the forum to achieve better functionality and design
2. Improving the layout and navigation of the whole website
3. Improving our server technology to achieve more reliability and speed

We do not, however, want to carry out any changes to the site without finding out what is important to the tRF membership and would, therefore, very much welcome, on this thread, any comments that you have about our proposed improvements. We would also like to hear about any other improvements you feel are desirable. Please feel free to pm me if you would prefer to make your comments privately.

As well as posting your comments on this thread, we invite you to fill in our anonymous online questionnaire (it takes approximately 1 minute to complete and it would be really helpful if as many people as possible completed it):

    Many Thanks
Cormack

    Hello,

I don’t wish to be a fuddy duddy, but there ain’t too much wrong with the site from what I can see :)

I am not exactly an I.T. specialist and there maybe some tweaks needed here or there behind the scenes, but overall it works fine, navigation is acceptable and layout easy on the eye! Good links etc.

Complete overhaul ain’t necessary really, let’s not ruin anything by fixing something that ain’t broke :)

    regards,

    doyley

One thing I would suggest is a mobile version of the site, for smartphones. My ISP was down last week, due to the storms, and I would have liked to have kept up to date. Loading 140kb per page is not viable on a smartphone.

It works better than lot of the forums I go on. It’s very reliable and quick and easy to post on. Maybe more smileys?
I think it’s fine as it is David :) You’re doing a great job!

Like Seabird, I’d like to be able to go straight to the last unread post.

There are too many "sub forums", many don’t have enough posts to warrant their existence, and that leads to even fewer posts as people get out of the habit of visiting them. The bloodstock and sales forum, for example, has been a complete failure – there’s been far less discussion of breeding matters since it was set up.

    :old: I am an anachronism
:old: I am an anachronism

There we are I have writtten it twice
so it is much more likely to be true

    Historical aspect.
This site was once divided into two
Chit chat I and chit chat II.
Chit chat I was horseracing and II was everything else.
Life was simple then and of course and Craig’s
vision was for horseracing to predominate.
A fairly valid thought on a horseracing site
where racing minds are to meet and engage.
I posted a lot on II
and from languishing about fifteen percent
behind I it suddenly became a force and overtook
I in viewing figures for three weeks in a row.
A change was inevitable and Craig came up with
the present ladder format.
Chit chat II was the new chill out lounge and
quite frankly it never rose from the bottom of the stairs.
I suppose sectionalising is inevitable but it
does break up the community and betfairs chitty chat
suffered the same lack of soul when it was cut up
in little pieces. I told Craig his changes were good
and he must have put a lot of work in.
The lounge’s downgraded position always wrankled with me though
because the lounge area has terrific potential for
creativity and potential torture

    The now.

I am the only person on here back from the dead.
I wonder if deleting names might not be quite so final
and if a reprieve might be considered in time for a lucky few.
Particulalrly so for those of good character who’d lapsed
uncharecteristically on possibly a bad day.

I have one further rather big ask.
Cormack this is to you.
I must first say that you reserve your best writing talent
for another site … Gaaary’s place
possibly you relax better in there in mufty
and I have certanly enjoyed your nspirations
I have never had a bone to pick with you
and your takeover of this site has been
seamless as someone wrote,
and I would agree with that
and there exists an atmosphere of non-interference and fairness.
Something wrankles a little though.
I believe all talking sites shoud forge close unions
not in physical proximity but in spirit with their neighbours.
They all hold the same aim; to increase knowledge
and add to the spice of life.

I feel yourself and Ian Davies should
draw a line over the past,
and it is not nice for me to see written acrimony
go for so long uncorrected.
As Lake so rightly says life is short have fun,
and these are only idle chatter houses
and not war machines or state departments.
I would like to see the log as Jim rather cruelly refers to him
offered a Sunday excursion to this site.
If not that then some gracious words on your part
to heal the old rift.
If nothing is done I believe you should force
Jim to open the tin of beans and spill them
so we will all know the horrible truth. ;)
In fact Jim should spill his sauce anyway
in the interests of intrigue !

I hope I not been too outspoken
but these are just my thoughts
if you disgree then say so,
but I feel your new mood is one of settlement and regeneration
and of destroying old congealed blood
that restricts the flow of good clean energy.

wow, gamble I wonder what you’d write is you won an oscar..

Oh and I like beans they are good for you and they make you fart….

Gamble nice try but it won’t happen, when a member is gone they are gone, you from the top of my head were the only one that was allowed back and to this day it remains a mystery to me, I will not speak anymore of the log as it’s all over and done with, those that know what went on will keep it to themselves also, it’s not for anyone else to know so you can keep fishing if you like but your bait is out of date…

the poor log will be furious to know that some still speak of him ;)
:old: Jim I suspected you were about.
I have just spoken to my mirror and told it I like you,
but it cracked when I discovered that the
Save the Racing forum thread on page 28
was deleted shortly after I asked for it to be saved -
just half an hour ago.
One of the mods did it
and I damn them for this ruthless act
of vandalism.

sorry gamble, it wasn’t me that deleted it as I have no access to delete anything other than in the lays and plays section…
It matters not I suppose…

ps. does that mirror have an ego? ;)

    :old: fool

the thread was archived I failed to read to the bottom
of the thread – my mistake and I retract any suggestion
of criminal acts.

Jim that thread is not your finest work
read it with your cocoa tonight and reflect.
I would hate you to be in Davies presence in paradise
how would you stand it ?
I know you would rather go to hell !

Your mirror sees only a faultless beauty
