Hi John,

As I said, anyone would "prefer" AP, because at present he is the best in the business.

People being "jocked off" horses’ has been going on since Racing started.
In most cases the ordinary punter will never really know who "instigated" any removal of a jockey.
In B/Inca’s case it could easily be AP himself.

It is not unknown, demonstrated by Piggott himself, for a jockey to peruse a Big Purse Race, consider what will win, and contact the owners, even by-passing the Trainer, and offer their services.

I could not say AP would be up to this, but for heavens sake, it is business !! :)

If you can afford the best, the best is available, and has "informed" you he is available, you should go for it, whatever the consequences and casualties.

The above is very callous, and not an action I would subscribe to, nor do I think the would majority of NH jockeys’.
They, and especially AP, come across as good eggs’ :)

But we cannot dismiss this type of covert action goes on, and has indeed been chronicled since Piggott’s time.

    Hello,

I would call into question the class of the field he destroyed on Saturday, but he will need company next time, he demonstrated all the hallmarks of falling when alone up front!!

I, and possibly, the Pipe Team also, will be wondering where he goes next?? If at the Festival, in what race?
The horse is certainly a puzzle :)

    Hello,

I am a firm believer that a jockey only contributes a maximum of 10% to the effectiveness of a horse’s performance. Particularly a very good horse.
Ok, there maybe a multitude of AP examples of his victories on ordinary horses, but when it come to Champion races’, the primary factor is the horse itself.

The connections of either Brave Inca or S/Bear will not lose any sleep over the man in the plate. Of course, like everything in life, you would like a preference, and connections would like AP.

But don’t be blinkered, come Champion’s Day, it is THE HORSE that is principal, and it should do it’s running in a capable horseman’s hands.

    Hello,

Getting there…as suggested you should use a taxi, go in one of the boozers and ring one and BOOK it !!, then settle down for pre-race refreshment. :)

Getting back to the Station can be a problem. If you can negotiate with the incoming taxi to meet you somewhere convenient, all well and good.

If not, go out by main gate, turn left and walk!
or turn right heading towards Ashton in Makerfield.
Within 8 minutes or so you will be upon a pub. Go in there, have a couple of beers until the course clears and then phone cab ;)

    Good Luck…

    Hello,

Is Soft Ground going to happen at Cheltenham??
From recent festivals, I don’t think so!
For the last few years, the staff have been watering, even after a winter’s copious amounts of rain.

The imminent good ground will surely rule out Nickname out this year and thus continuing the Hype. :)

    Hello,

The theory goes a good two and a half miler that has been upped to 3m, tends to win the National.
A thing called a "second wind" my old Dad used to say.

If you can nurse around such a horse for the first circuit [to be fair the field don’t go TOO fast early on], the 2m+ horses’ speed factor comes into play later on.

Maybe a fable, but one I have heard from various sources.

As I have stated before, my selection is LONGSHANKS -stood up twice over GN fences, great cruising speed, goes extremely well fresh, and trainer has won race prior [Mr Frisk]. Will definitely stay and thrown in on 10st 7ib. Just browse his form.
One negative, tends not to turn up on occasions !
Gets himself injured in training!!

    Hello,

    Fantastic performance.

Just a niggling doubt, does anyone think WC’s performance would be hampered in any way if there were a particularly large field in The Champion Chase ??

Just that large 2 mile fields going flat out appears to cause problems aplenty at Cheltenham…

Not being critical here, just a discussion point..

    Hello,

    Firstly, excellent post, Gus :)

After Sunday’s performance, FTP may well have to forget the G/Cup. Surely the ground wasn’t to blame.
Was there anything wrong with the horse?

    Hello,

    Spotted a flaw…;)

If I put up exactly the same horses’ as my competitor, Johnny B, I am guaranteed a point which would see me thru to next round !!

But I am not that sort of Guy…:)

    Hello,

Yep, a succulent biscuit to accompany Heartbeat.

What a wonderful horse, that can walk into a stable AND shut the door after itself, my 22 year old son can’t do that coming through the front door! :(

    Couple of points:

Even back in the seventies bookies would pay you out on a lost ticket. all you had to do was rewrite it as it was…That bookie last night was a tad harsh on the young lad.

What a superb first riding lesson, approx. 3 miles bare back..Wow! :o

It also strengthens the myth, [or fact?], that women are only in it for the money…no way that attractive Vet would go for that fat pillock….he looks like Barry off Eastenders!

Also, that smart caravan looks like my future abode after the inevitable Cheltenham Festival Losses!!:(

    Hello,

In my book KASBAH BLISS is not badly weighted if connections are considering the World Hurdle.
More of a concern is if it can get the distance, if so it will be on the premises whatever the weight issue.

I will be giving NATHOS one last chance to shine…it’s form, altho’ distant, gives it a squeek, and 60s on B/F leads me to a slight interest.

Therefore two E/W punts, KASBAH and NATHOS.

My other interest Material World may not be running.

    Hello,

Not defending the idiocy of these boys, but surely a tape would not be accepted as sole evidence, only as an indicator. The tape "evidence" would need supporting.

God, consider some of the things we all have discussed at one time or another that could easily be misconstrued when listened to via a tape.
Also, besides being very easily edited, if the jockeys in question had partaken in drink, any diatribe should be instantly ignored !1;)

I have said, in drink, " Someone should shoot that b*st*rd so and so…..",
Surely this cannot be forwarded to The Murder Squad!!

    Especially if I hadn’t shot him yet…:cheesy:

    Hello

    racinggirluk:

"I love going to Queens…My family used to own it…. "

I lost a smashing pair of Binoculars in the Queens in 1989…The Wednesday, I believe…Did any one hand them in ??? …:cheesy:

Having said that, the Queens assisted in me losing my wife and a considerable chunk of my liver….

And dancing round the main lounge with the guy that owned Dunnes Stores whilst he was wearing a Australian Bush Hat with Corks was most disconcerting..

    Anyway, the Therapy has helped….:(
