If I could get my hands on Jim Crowley…
Haha, we can’t blame him unfortunately! That’s just how it goes.
Annoyed to clearly be on the best horse in the race, but what can you do!
If Ryan takes Land Force over to the far side from the start, he wins that race. He looked ahead about 1 furlong out (according to RUK’s wire-cam), but then wandered to find some company before running on again late.
It’s not a case of being the same horse as last year. It’s a case of not being the same horse as the one in ONE race last year. i.e. The Champion Stakes.
Can’t have that at all. Cracksman posted better closing sectionals in the Great Voltigeur than Ulysses did in the International!
He’s clearly a horse of immense talent.
I bet they wished they ran him in the Arc.
I don’t think it’s a trip, track or ground issue. Cracksman hasn’t been himself in his last two runs, for whatever reason, over 10 and 12 furlongs and on fast and easy ground. You could tell before the race with how he sweat up that there’s something not right with him.
Cracksman looks drenched. Major concern for me.
Backed him at 3.00, considering laying him at 1.50 before the off.
Blimey!
I think part of Battaash’s performance was how worked up he got. IIRC, you could see the sweat under the saddle as he was racing. He’s ran a stone below his best but there will be other days for him.
I’ve never been a fan of Johnson as a commentator. He seems a nice enough fellow, but he doesn’t have the descriptive powers of a Hoiles, Holt or Machin. Just a lot of shouting and repeating. The other day at Sandown, a horse won a handicap by 6 lengths and he genuinely said “Pivoine first, the rest nowhere!”
Can’t have Battaash at 6f after what we saw today.
U S Navy Flag looks set to drop in trip, at 16s he could be interesting. I like the angle with Equilateral, though.
The horse broke to lead, but Crowley didn’t do anything to try and steady the pace down.
He said afterwards that he didn’t expect Battaash to break so well, that he took two lengths out of the rest of the field and that he let the horse go his own pace because he’s not the type you can pull back. He wanted something to give him a lead but it didn’t happen.
Agree.
That’s not Battaash’s true running. He should be slaughtering that lot.
I’ve taken 8/1 for the Guineas.
You could tell from the early stages that the high-drawn horses weren’t being carried into the race as the other pack, so for him to win that with plenty in hand and having smashed his side that has to rate as a brilliant performance.
Varian and Appleby would be a dream team. Great shout that.
James Willoughby doing a good piece on RUK now
Think this might be my favourite show on TV. Usually very, very good, and potentially brilliant if the right guest is on.
Bump.
When you use the Race Passes, are the TFIGs weight-adjusted?
Strange race, that. A bunch finish with three of the first four home being big, big prices, although the winner was tough. Hey Gaman ran well, but probably paid late on for using too much energy to get to the front. I think he could be worth a look if the ground has some ease in the Eclipse.
Olmedo – strange one. Some people seem to think he didn’t stay, and he certainly travelled through the race like a miler, but the way he dropped away suggests to me he wasn’t quite right. He finished off his previous race like he was crying out for a step up in trip, so maybe the knock he took from Hey Gaman ended up doing race-ending damage?
