Plenty in hand? Do you not think he laboured over the line a bit?
Festival form is something that has stood to me in the past. Don’t like backing horses that have flopped at Cheltenham. Horses for courses is a thing. Won’t be backing Kemboy for the Gold Cup for that very reason. Anyway, this division hasn’t even started yet. So many great staying Novice Chasers to look forward to this year
He thought that last year and it didn’t go well. In fairness to Melon he settled better in his last race than he usually does. I always thought he was way too free for anything more than 2 miles. Always runs well at Cheltenham as well; something to keep in mind.
Elliot always gets his best horses out earlier than Mullins. As long as they are well Elliot usually starts them at Down Royal. I think it’s fair to assume that Envoi Allen, Andy Dufresne and Abracadabras are probably his best 3. The Novice that Mullins seems most excited about this year is a Mare, Lamerckise. Mullins still has loads of Novices to get out. Horses to watch out for who never made the track last year due to ground; En Beton (Cheevely Park), El Barra (Ricci), Asterion Ferlonge (Donnelly’s), Pragmatic (Cheevely Park), Aione (Ricci), Passageway is a Mullins horse that didn’t race last year but the year before he beat City Island in a Punchstown Bumper. None of the above mentioned horses were mentioned in the Stable tour so god knows if they’re still alive but they were all high profile purchases.
Jon Snow was a horse Ricci was looking forward to but the market never moved on him like it did for the likes of Melon, Min, Douvan etc.. Ferny Hollow is one that got a mention in the stable tour; he’s a new Cheevely Park purchase to look out for. I’d keep an eye out on the Maiden Hurdle at Leopardstown on 26th December; that’s where klassical Dream debuted last year.
Some Mullins Novices that have done well include The Big Getaway, Tactical Move, Blackbow (grand for first run), Elixir D’Ainay and Blue Sari (you’d imagine he will come on). Still though, Envoi Allen has impressed me more than any Novice I’ve seen so far this year. Andy Dufresne looks exciting also.
Joseph has had some good Novices so far and the one he’s looking forward to most is D’Lauro, so looking forward to seeing what he can do.
Supreme
Envoi Allen 6/1 WinArkle
Laurina 14/1 e/w
Notebook 25/1 e/wChampion Hurdle
Saldier 20/1 e/w & 33/1 e/w
Sharjah 33/1 e/wBallymore
Andy Dufresne 10/1 e/w
D’Lauro 25/1 e/wRyanAir Chase
Douvan 33/1 e/wMares Novice Hurdle
Lamerckise 16/1 e/wham, do you not think the fact that Petit Mouchoir had a run already this season might have brought him on? Petit Mouchoir was a very good Hurdler a couple of years back. He got his own way up front and ran a decent race. He’s still only 8 rising 9 also
You can make a similar case here for Saldier as you can for Battleoverdoyen in the RSA picture; Any Second Now was dog-sh1t in his last start before yesterday and based off that form Battleoverdoyen needed to win by more. But maybe Any Second Now and Petit Mouchoir both came on a lot for their first runs? Yesterday was also Battleoverdoyens second run though so its not quite the same.
I have Saldier each way (33/1 and 20/1) and Sharjah each way (33/1) for Champion Hurdle and I suffer with confirmation bias
Please someone agree
A lot of Mullins young horses didn’t really get going last year because of the ground. Horses like Asterion Ferlonge, the Big Getaway and Tactical Move would have been Bumper horses last year but never got their ground so you’d expect them to go for 1 bumper and then straight over hurdles because they are all 5 rising 6 now. He seems to be getting through his backlog of horses from last year at the moment. His proper Champion Bumper horses don’t usually appear until Xmas; same with his best Juveniles. He likes to get them all going a little bit later than most trainers
Albert Bartlett for me is a race to stay away from Ante Post. The point of backing a horse in the Ante Post market is that you get a better price; the winner of the Albert Bartlett always goes off a double figure price and it’s usually a sub 140 horse that has loads of experience and can settle well on quick ground. It’s not a race for classy Novices like Andy Dufresne or Fury Road or Midnight Run. Obviously the last two years we’ve had soft and heavy ground but usually it’s quick ground and a 140 rated unspectacular slogger of a horse with loads of experience wins at a big price
Quote from Mullins blog;” The Big Getaway (Patrick) goes for the winners bumper. He was second in hot bumper here at the festival and has been working well at home. Hopefully he will win today and then he will go jumping.”
Did they not say he was going Hurdling after today? He’s 5 rising 6.
You usually don’t see Mullins best Bumper horses or Juveniles until Xmas.
This will be a hot division and based on the fact he flopped at the festival last year and with Minella Indo still to come I’m happy put a line through BOD for this.
Are you on Bet 365, ham? They let you cash in any time. Best thing to do is to back them on Bet365 ante-post for Cheltenham before they run and if they run a stinker just cash in your bet. Adopted that policy with Andy Dufresne, Envoi Allen & Douvan so far. Have also done a few on 365 who haven’t run yet (Laurina, Lamerckise, Sharjah, Saldier) all at big prices who I can just cash in if they disappoint. Bet365 is great for a good ante-post flutter
Good call, Andy. Took the 33’s. 7/1 now. I thought he settled alright but Townened said he was keen. Think they’ll be very pleased with that.
Mullins preview wouldn’t fill you full of confidence but he doesn’t need to be anywhere near his best to win this. He’s getting 5 lb off Monalee and Monalee is probably a 160 horse. With the allowance Douvan can compete here even if he’s 20 lbs off his best. Was kept in light work during the summer so he should be fit enough. Gonna back Douvan or old time sake.
Faugheen entered in a beginners Chase for Punchestown on Saturday. Good few option for Mullins in that race so he mightn’t run but Punchestown seems like the ideal track to start him over fences.
Lebaik pulled from the Morgiana now. Just 5 runners; Klassical Dream, Petit Mouchoir, Sharjah, Saldier & Yaha Fizz. Still expect Sharjah to be pulled unless the ground quickens up a bit
Think Envoi Allen will come here. Just have a feeling that all is not right with Malone Road and that Envoi Allen will come here and Andy Dufresne will go to The Ballymore. Elliot normally plays his hand nice and early and he has two stand out crackers for the Novice Hurdle division in these two lads. DLauro is is another one with a big reputation and I’m looking forward to him also.
