Thanks very much, cassano, for the really interesting information.
And thanks, cavalino, for the link. So many fascinating strands to the Overdose story – his price, his purchase almost by chance, the comparison with Seabiscuit, etc., etc.
Am I right in thinking that Soumillon doesn’t do his flying dismounts as regularly as Dettori? Just as he was with Dalakhani and Zarkava, he must be over the moon to be associated with such a horse.
May Overdose rule this summer!
Chief Lone Eagle is not running in the 8f race at Dundalk tomorrow. Is something amiss with him? Three times entered, no runs, is beginning to look suspicious.

BTW, Gerald, I would guess he’s regarded at home as most likely being a miler rather than a middle distance horse. That is, if he makes it to the races this season.
Terrible news, but of course safety comes first. I hope she can make some good use of the down time.
I’m sure she would have had increasingly good rides this season and I was looking forward to her first G1.

Coolmores coward ( Dunkirk, yet another son of Unbridled Song), showed his lack of stomach for a fight in the floirda derby, even if he gets into the kentucky race, I doubt he will win especally if it turns into a gut wrectching dog fight of a finnish.
Sounds a tad harsh, yorkshire, for a horse that lacks experience and that may yet show us a thing or three. I like Dunkirk but don’t think he’s ready for the Derby. (But it looks now that he will get in with this $150,000 stakes earnings.) Really rate Quality Road, but the slight quarter crack means he most likely won’t be 100%. Friesan Fire and, at a bigger price, Chocolate Candy for me. Think CC is really beautiful and his Santa Anita Derby run behind Pioneerof The Nile looked really good to me.

Edit: coincidentally, the other horse that I put £2 on at Christmas at a big price is also by Giant’s Causeway out of a Sadler’s Wells mare, and is also running on Friday, this time at Dundalk.
No need to be embarassed about Chief Lone Eagle – at least I hope not! The form of his only race (a win) has been working out really well, with Toraidh and Rockhampton behind him that day already impressive winners this season. (Should be interesting to see what they do this week.) I’m really looking forward to CLE’s reappearance – but I think he’s been entered twice and not run in recent weeks, don’t know why but maybe not a good sign. Because of that win, he’ll be giving away a fair amount of weight in the Dundalk race – hope he can win it or at least give a promising account of himself.
Insensitive, even stupid, comment, unworthy of Clare. I’m sure she realizes and regrets it. Unfortunately, her regret doesn’t diminish the diminishing effect this probably had on one of the great moments of Liam’s life. His was a fantastic, brave and clever ride on the inside, running around a faller in front of him at one point. A ride worthy of one of the greats, and he, a first timer in the race!

It was very surprising that Denman was 2 to 1 on in running.
I agree. It looked like both horse and rider were hard at it to keep with Madison. I fear it looks like we may never again see Denman at his imperious best.
What a truly brave and consistent horse! Somehow this seems even more shocking because he always appeared to be so tough – and to have such a brave heart. How vulnerable they are really.
Archipenko – could he start me off well tomorrow?
Conduit – my fav for 12f older horse this season
Zaralanta – could spring a surprise or two
Thanks, Deadly!
Not quite what you had in mind with your question, halfway, but this season I am hugely looking forward to the first offspring of Dubawi, Oratorio, Shamardal, Footstepsinthesand, Rakti and Antonius Pius. These last two erratic racehorses could produce great speed and/OR horses with serious attitude problems.
Most of these stallions should produce two-year-olds ready to shine, so we won’t have to wait till next year.
With the mares the Sheikh must have bred to Dubawi, I don’t think he can fail. I also think Oratorio will have considerable success.
Re 3 year olds and older horses, I found it difficult to limit to 5, so again I fail your remit. FWIW, here’s my list in alphabetical order:
Conduit (going from strength to strength?)
Famous Name (will he justify his trainer’s faith?)
Fantasia (quality over 10f and further)
Gan Amrhas (like him a lot)
Goldikova (please don’t follow the example of Alexandrova,
Peeping Fawn and even Mandesha as 4 year olds)
Overdose (looking forward to seeing how good he really is)
Paco Boy (we’ll find out soon how far he can stay – hopefully he’ll
be a top class miler – think Archipenko will beat him in
Dubai)
Rip Van Winkle (will he/won’t he wake up?)
Sea The Stars (my Derby horse at this stage)david johnson wrote:
If he wins it next year, I think we can put him even above Best Mate.
Surely we can do that now. He’s certainly had a higher class of opposition than Matey had.
As far as ratings go: At this point in their careers, (granted that Master Minded is younger and may still achieve greater things) I think Kauto has achieved more and deserves a higher rating. Three King Georges, two Gold Cups
and
a Tingle Creek – wow! Really more than decent opposition too.
2.40 Voy Por Ustedes win
3.20 Mighty Man e/w
Masterminded – win
The Polomoche -win
The Hollow Bottom – each way
Haydock – Kasbah Bliss
Haydock – Coe
Ascot – Voy Por UstedesAll to win.
Blue Shark – win
Might De Kock run Eagle Mountain? Wrong surface, but his horse’s best distance.
