If he wins it next year, I think we can put him even above Best Mate.
March 13, 2009 at 20:02 #216085I’m STILL buzzing. He’d have carried Best Mate. Best Mate would’ve been forth today.

The BEST EVER FACT, can’t believe people even tried to oppose him today just shocking to see all that money going on silly bets, the best horses come 1st and 2nd the greatest horse the NH game has seen come first. Think we need to make a statue now
March 13, 2009 at 20:06 #216087Just thought it will be interesting to see what rating the official handicapper gives Kauto Star now. If they have Master Minded at 186 (which I think is way too high) this horse has got to be 190 surely?
My ratings are far more conservative but even I am going to have to break the 180 barrier now I should think which is something I’ve never done.
March 13, 2009 at 20:28 #216094Just for the record I’m sure no one cares but I think both Denman and Exotic Dancer have run slightly below their best. Exotic I’m not certain truely stays, Denman probably needs it a bit softer ideally, likewise Neptune Collonges.
It is possible on my previous ratings to suggest that those three ran to peaks which would give Kauto an astronomical rating but on a line through My Will and one or two others I’d suggest they didn’t quite. The lowest I can give Kauto for todays run is 185.
March 13, 2009 at 20:32 #216096I’d suggest it’s quite reasonable that you could rate the
bare
form of this race below both of Kauto’s first two King Georges. So to say 185 is a minimum when you’ve apparently never dished out 180 before, might I recommend you try harder to pull it down!

But then you are going low 160’s about Denman (177 on my ratings at peak), Exotic Dancer (175) and probably 150’s about Neptune (170).
Doesn’t make any sense at all and I am legendary for pulling ratings down, I can’t realistically do it any more in this case.
March 13, 2009 at 20:41 #216099At least wait until you’ve peeled yourself off the ceiling before slapping anything definitive on this race.

But in all honesty, to claim it’s Kauto’s best performance to the tune of 5 lb or more given the way the placed horses shaped seems a little fishy to me.
March 13, 2009 at 21:14 #216105If anyone checks my history, i said that the stattos who said Zarakava wouldn’t win the arc will be dissapointed.
That is what you call a gold cup champion performance.
Fantastic.

Yeah, i know few people who were on her to win the Arc at 12/1 quite heavily after the figure she recorded in the Prix Marcel Boussac.
March 13, 2009 at 21:50 #216109The RPR have it almost the same as me giving Kauto 184. Can’t believe they still have Master Minded rated higher albeit on only one performance. They must be drunk I think.
March 13, 2009 at 21:55 #216111A pleasure to witness history.
March 13, 2009 at 23:01 #216125I was overjoyed to see him win. He’s such a great horse for the sport and he did a wonderful job today, I was so impressed with his jumping. He really travelled. Fabulous job. Lovely sight.

Surely we can do that now. He’s certainly had a higher class of opposition than Matey had.
As far as ratings go: At this point in their careers, (granted that Master Minded is younger and may still achieve greater things) I think Kauto has achieved more and deserves a higher rating. Three King Georges, two Gold Cups
and
a Tingle Creek – wow! Really more than decent opposition too.
March 13, 2009 at 23:15 #216131A Great performance, his best yet.
I believe Kauto Star will be rated around 187 by Timeform after that, level with Desert Orchid. Possibly a pound or two above on 188 or 189.

Value Is EverythingMarch 13, 2009 at 23:30 #216135I don’t know what he is rated and don’t care but I’ll tell you what:
I think David’s wife has been skelping him too many times with her rolling pin.

Honestly David I think Kauto Star has shown he is in a different league to Best Mate even before todays race.
March 14, 2009 at 01:03 #216159I agree with Fist there – KS is different gravy to Best Mate.

Ps,
