Not the best breeders cup this year. Most trainers think of it as an add on to the European season which is a pity as there are good races to win and great profile for possible stallions. The likes of Australia would have been perfect for the 12f turf race and any of the first three in the moyglare would have won the fillies race. There is only so many top class horses to go round and the arc weekend and champions day in Ireland and England leave very few top horses to go to the bc. Horses like s n abbey made their name there but the travelling and it being at the end of a long season means it’s unlikely the best of Europe will go to the breeders cup
I see ruler of the worlds full brother Giovanni canneleto won hugely impressively at the curragh yesterday. Very similar to his brother and not unlike Australia. What a crop of two year olds aiden has. How many train on to make top 3yos time will tell but I can see young Joseph having a lot of awkward choices throughout next season where at least two of the top 5or 6 ballydoyle inmates face each other.
Sorry to bang on about it but aiden has the most pressurised training job in Britain. No other trainer has to train horses with his bosses telling him where to place horses. Sir Henry never did neither did Michael stoute or the likes of Luca cumani. The fact that tapestry ran at a mile after a brilliant win in the Yorkshire oaks says it all. I doubt aiden would have chosen that path. Aiden is a genius along with Vincent obrien, sir Henry and Noel murless. Yes you do need the ammunition as willie Mullins has over the jumps but as Vincent obrien found out at the end of his career you can’t keep doing it without the quality of horse needed.
As the likes of aiden obrien and sir henry himself would always say its a great team effort training these horses. to me aiden, sir henry, vincent obrien and noel murless ae the best trainers there has been but its the team around them that makes it work. Wasnt really a shock that noble mission won given the ground and he was fresh for the race but great training performance nevertheless.
the only classic contender that came out of future champions weekend was teogether forever and thats for the oaks.Hopefully we will see a star come out of the racing post trophy but doesnt look like the best 2yos will be there either.
I find it bizarre that pat smullen gets three days for cleaning out leading light and keeps the race yet gleneagles is demoted to third in France for far less. Ryan Moore did the same an smullen except worse earlier on in the season in Dubai. Seems the stewards let the likes of Moore and smullen get away with it but when other jockeys don’t barge through they don’t win. It’s win at all costs all right. No wonder mcririck goes ballistic about it.
Test of nerve for dermot weld. Does he run the horse while it is sound risking it on bad ground or wait till next season not sure if he will stay sound. Looks a great prospect and by high chaparral one of my recent favs. Will indeed be a great feat if free eagle wins.
Makes you wonder what owners and breeders want. The latest fad for the big movers and shakers is for milers/10f horses. Shame really as some of the greatest horses have been 10to12f horses. Dancing brave,Nijinsky etc. I suppose the ideal is one that is equally as good at a mile and at 12f. Coolmore wanted that in Australia hence the reason they will be expecting big things at stud. Why do owners not want an ardross anymore.he was a fantastic racehorse and nearly won an arc. Beats me.
A couple of more years of heavy going on champions day could lead to calls for it to move back to Newmarket. Won’t be though given the huge investment made at ascot.
Ruler of the world seems the bet especially as his stamina will come into play if it’s a bog. Agree though cda looks the likely winner.
Totally agree that the likely soft going makes champions day mostly for the likes of Olympic glory. Given that the trend is for sires who like good/good to firm going this weekends fields could become the norm unless we get very good weather in the run up to the meeting. Still it means no excuses for horses who supposedly like soft going. The likes of Kingston hill. Wait a minute. Lol.
When it comes to horses at stud the ratings they had are only a factor in the fees for the first few years. The odds are that Frankel is unlikely to produce an offspring anywhere near as good as him whereas Australia, with top class form at 8to 12f maybe could unearth a gem or two. I would imagine Australia will be sent mares with form over 10to 12f and the likes of tapestry and Chiquita would certainly produce offspring worth a fortune. You can never tell how horses will do at stud but I’ve a feeling Australia will be in demand and could be a very good sire of top class horses. We are all waiting for the next Galileo but have no idea who it will be. Glad I’m not the one spending millions on yearlings.
Smugglers cove won very easily in a listed race at Dundalk winning by 7l giving 5lbs to the next 3in the field and beating Bertie le belge(rated98) by over 10l. Developing rapidly and looks likely it will run in the dewhurst or racing post trophy. Widens biggest problem is where to place his 2yos although he has said that one or two of them won’t run again this season. Reminds of the year Vincent obrien had a raft of brilliant 2yos in the early 80s.
I doubt very much that Frankel would have won an arc and sir Henry knew that as well hence the reason he never ran him over 12f. As for him beating dancing brave that is cloud cuckoo land stuff. Dancing brave to me is the best 12f horse along with alleged over the last 40 years and Frankel wouldn’t have beaten either of them, people tend to forget Frankels last 2l defeat of cirrus da and that was over 10f and he wasn’t pulling away at the end. Hard to judge this years arc but the fact that Flintshire was second suggests it wasn’t vintage IMHO.
I thought the way found won the boussac was mightily impressive and she looks like a good bet for the guineas. Hard to fathom the colts as I’m not sure even aiden knows whose his best and there seems to horses at around 20s who have won a maiden and who really are just dark horses. Of the colts JFK looks a real class act but I doubt will go for the guineas. Hopefully after the dewhurst ,racing post trophy etc we will have a better idea. Found for the 1000 guineas would be my best idea of a classic winner.
Joseph can’t do 8st8 so won’t be on tapestry. Chiquita is carrying 9st2 so he will be on that filly who,if she doesn’t veer left has a good ew chance imho. If tapestry hadn’t run in the matron she would have been around 12 to 1. Maybe the Yorkshire oaks took a lot out of her.would have thought the breeders cup would have been more suitable but maybe it was the unusually good going at longchamp that persuaded them to run her.I wonder why she wasn’t entered in the arc after her Irish oaks win. Strange and given aobs record in the arc all three of his horses best watched although it wouldn’t surprise if two of them are in with a chance at the furlong pole
Joseph will ride Chiquita in the race. I wonder if tapestry has been entered as coolmore assumed Joseph would ride rotw and Ryan Chiquita and then al shaqab insisted on Frankie riding the horse they own half of. Surely the have not spent £100,000 just to give Ryan a ride in the arc. Sounds like the relationship between as shaqab and coolmore could be a feisty one. John magnier doesn’t like not being in control. Maybe the thought of a great partnership with al shaqab has calmed him a little. Doubt it mind.Spare a thought for aiden caught up in this. As I’ve said many times although he has great horses to train his is one of the toughest gigs in racing.
