At this late ish stage I’d personally be surprised if the markets have it right and would be nigh on certain that it’s Sir Gerhard here and the Dynamo to the Ballymore.
I’ve heard enough buzz around the Twittersphere that Willie’s red hot on Sir Gerhard and that he’s the one with the gears for the Supreme. I think the momentum’s shifting and the markets will be too in the coming days.
Patrick Mullins on State Man…
“Obviously he’s entered all over the place, but Richard Deegan rode him in a conditional jockeys’ race at Limerick so should he go for the Martin Pipe, Ritchie knows him well.”
Colonel Mustard looks likely for Aintree over Cheltenham.
I feel that’s a fairer summary, Corm. Particularly at this time I feel it important for people to separate the man from the jockey. As you said, there’s a vulnerable man beneath the ruthless competitor we all see. He needs help and deserves a chance to redeem himself.
It seems that the entirety of my post, barring me referring to Murphy as a ‘young boy’, has gone almost entirely in one ear and out the other.
Irrespective of actual age he is nevertheless a young man, to whom the rest of the message still relates and is valid. People should not be kicked when they are down in such a way.
Wonderful to see #BeKind culture is alive and well.
I find the attitudes of several on here to be tasteless, heartless and ridiculously shortsighted.
This is a human being we’re talking about, not just a mere jockey. Just because he happens to fill column inches it doesn’t mean he’s less fallible than the rest of us. He’s young, he’s made mistakes, he’ll learn.
What he does he works incredibly hard for. He can’t be simply classed as ‘entitled’ because he’s more recognisable to joe public than you or me. And yes he may have covered his errors in the past, he’ll have said or done things he’d like to do differently. Well, you know, that’s what makes him and us human. I don’t know if he had a drinking problem or whether he had just been enjoying himself slightly too much. Either way that’s nobody’s business but his own, and if it is some form of serious addiction then I wish him nothing but the best. Anyone who’s been through that or knows anyone that has knows that this is a dark and gruelling path that he’d be embarking on.
This is a young boy, a talented young boy who’s probably had the worst 18 months of his life. The fact he’s had to live that in the public eye hS certainly made that a more difficult experience. The last thing he needs would be for his sport to turn its back on him.
Although why is it I get the feeling that those who spite Oisin the most will be the same ones cheering and praising him the most when he gets their 10/1 winner up when that day comes.
Sport’s a fickle business, shame on you

Can’t help but have a small interest in Beakstown here. He’s not been raised for his last two runner-up efforts, where he’s found only the smart duo of Erne River and Imperial Alcazar too good respectively. It’s his first attempt at 3 miles since his pointing days, but if he sees it out (goodish ground at a quick track will help) then the market may well have missed him.
This looks rife for an upset this year. Song For Someone somehow finds himself 50/1. Always looked a bit short of Champion Hurdle class, although the step up in trip was always bound to suit at some stage. 3 miles could suit by now, having seen his form tail off at the minimum trip. He’s got course form and I can’t see him unbacked at the price. Not heard confirmation that this is the plan although NRNB makes it worth a play.
March 1st the weights are out

Joe Tizzard on Fiddlerontheroof…
“This has been the plan for Fiddlerontheroof since the Ladbrokes Trophy where he had a hard enough race. It was going to be too soon to go for a King George, then we talked about it and we thought he could have a live chance in a Grand National.
“We waited until the weights came out before we decided to run him again. We will run him at Ascot on Saturday in the three mile-handicap chase.
“I’m sure off 155 he would be competitive and he is a lovely jumper.”

Typical

Had a nibble on Top Moon. He’s another with multiple engagements on the weekend. He’s also in the Pertemps race at Musselburgh, although hopefully that entry’s just a sighter for the UK handicapper with March in mind.
He’s another with a bit of place form from this weekend anyway so worth a tentative play.
I’ve played A Wave Of The Sea, although he’s entered in two for the weekend and is actually a longer price in this

Twice a winner at the Festival though and at this stage of his career surely this engagement over the longer trip seems the more suitable. 20/1 anyway, it looks feasible until he’s entered over the 2 mile 1 furlong race he won last year. Fingers crossed.
“Id be wanting 33/1 AFTER he won a supreme lol”
Bloody hell Ham, you’ll have to introduce me to your bookmaker

Personally don’t think any of the protagonists have anything working against them and it’s fairly possible that the firmer everyone’s clutching their ante-post vouchers the more they’re looking to get one another beat

I don’t think there was anything wrong with Jonbon’s run at Haydock. His pre-race disposition wouldn’t put me off as Henderson is the master of managing to get a horse to mature. The fact he won that race at Haydock which has a ‘poor record’ fpr Cheltenham well, what else has gone there to try and hold that argument up? Mister Fisher?
Dysart Dynamo I’d also have no qualms about either. His jumping looked almost entirely slick to my eye in the Moscow Flyer.
I’d say the market probably has it just about right currently, although I’d struggle to fully nail my colours to the mast on one. I reckon it’ll be a hell of a race though, with none or the aforementioned bombing because of the appropriated reasoning.
Huge overreaction on Jonbon for me. I watched him going down to the start and my immediate thought was that, given the way he moved he would’ve hated conditions. It wasn’t visually as flashy as the CH and DD recent runs although I’d be in no hurry to rule him out. That’s unless there’s a March deluge in the Cotswolds.
Well I backed Good Risk At All at 33s and 16s. I’ll let you know when it stops becoming a sore subject
