I feel that’s a fairer summary, Corm. Particularly at this time I feel it important for people to separate the man from the jockey. As you said, there’s a vulnerable man beneath the ruthless competitor we all see. He needs help and deserves a chance to redeem himself.

Breaking news, ten minutes ago I’m afraid chaps.
    Welcome back Mr Murphy.

Let’s see how this new kid gets on here.
Hasn’t been seen in these parts for a while but his last winner was a 50/1 shot at the breeders cup. Lot to learn about the game. Hard to think he wouldn’t make a splash on first ride back.

The link goes to a “We can’t find the page you are looking for” screen.

I did read something on the Thames Valley Police site last night. I have checked and it is still there. I didn’t provide the link because I wasn’t sure I should but I suppose it is in the public domain should anyone want to read it.

    This might work:

    https://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/news/thames-valley/news/

Then click on the ‘Appeal’ box.

The “Racing Post” confirms the 29 year old man who was arrested is “a jockey”..

    Quotes:

“At around 12.05am on Sunday, on Marlston Road, a single vehicle, a grey Mercedes A Class, crashed into a tree. Both occupants of the vehicle required medical attention, with a woman aged in her twenties taken to hospital with serious injuries, where she remains at this time.

“A 29-year-old man from Hungerford has been arrested for causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen for analysis. He has been released on police bail.”

Is it just coincidence – he is 29 and had a car accident on Sunday which caused him to miss his rides on that Sunday, he apparently resides in Berkshire (the reported accident happened in West Berkshire).

The way things are adding up its not looking good.

How many 29 year old jockeys from Berkshire were involved in a car accident last Sunday?

There was a jockey who had to miss rides at Southwell Sunday due to a car crash.

If found guilty of “ causing serious injury by dangerous driving “ the accused is subject to the following guidelines:

Causing serious injury by dangerous driving

If the DPP is looking for a sentence longer than 6 months the matter must be referred to Crown Court which can sentence up to 5 years .

    All-
As this has strong potential to result in a serious court case I’m going to block further comments on this thread. If the situation changes I’ll re-open it. So, although I appreciate it is of high interest for racing fans and observers, if we can please not make further comment elsewhere on this topic for the time being I’d be grateful.
