Its hard to imagine Moore feeling great about G1s going to other jockeys that he could have ridden and especially if he is in a like it or lump it situation and doesnt have any choice about where he rides.
But it looks as though he will only have to sit and suffer for a couple of seasons until Donnaca’s career is thwarted by weight struggles and that might be well worth the struggle because his patience will be rewarded by business as usual and a steady flow of G1s for the forseeable future.
Can’t see anything currently worth jumping ship for.
If as it seems Holt has been stitched up and airbrushed from any kind of inclusion in ITV Racing it is extremely petty and personal by them….. he clearly must have upset the wrong person because he is as good a commentator as any of them and his excellent work for C4 should be allowed to be heard.
If anyone has any doubts have a listen to his commentary on Sprinter Sacre’s 2nd QM Champion Chase.Sublime.
August 14, 2018 at 20:43 in reply to: Is Horse Racing a "White" pastime? (particularly jumps racing) #1363037I find the twitchiness and discomfiture of certain types of people when discussions about diversity arise much more interesting than the subject itself.
The safety blanket of ‘political correctness gone mad’ is unfurled and they hide under it until the conversation goes away again. What they’re actually frightened of absolutely intrigues me.
That said ,I still don’t have much time for most diversity discussions and one of the biggest reasons is that most of them seem to be about black people.
Black people are just one ethnic group (what about gender and sexuality or other ethnic backgrounds?) and if anyone is trying to tell me that the term black people is shorthand for anyone that isn’t white then that ironically is probably why things aren’t diverse in the first place, because all kinds of different people are being herded together for reference purposes when the fact is that everyone is different and what they like or don’t like can’t be determined by the colour of their skin or any other kind of generalisation.
The hugely unlikable Michael O’Leary never strikes me as being a racing man and it’s his brother who is the mastermind behind the operation.
Clearly unhealthy to have races swamped by one owner or trainer but encouraging to read that there is no preferred order when Gigginstown co-owned horses race against each other.
I think that simple as it sounds the variety of colours idea would ease the impression you get from just watching different coloured caps like we do currently.
The Social Stable needs scrapping….Kennedy and Blake are unable to sufficiently fake interest in the juvenile drivel that they’re pretending to give a damn about.
Hard to be sure if the pair of them would be any good as presenters with proper subject matter to present but probably not.
Kevin Blake’s tips have been good this week amongst the SS dross and I’m becoming obsessed with his nervous intermittent, forced smile and the way his right arm swings back and forth whilst he’s on air whether he’s talking or not.
The number of runners that O’Brien has in the same race is unprecedented in racing and not good news in my opinion and I’m afraid the suspicion that the O’Brien operation don’t know who their best horses are and therefore need scattergun entry tactics to try and win is also not great news for the sport in my opinion.
Not least of the issues is that its very hard to assess how 7 Oaks winners from 54 runners stacks up as an achievement….obviously its record breaking territory but 54 runners???? Who knows?
As for whether we really want to see Ryan Moore looking to his right to see if its a ‘team mate’ coming up his inside and then holding his position OR not accordingly, there is no doubt about that being an extremely unhealthy sight.
I’ve never been more certain about a Derby favourite .
My main reason apart from his proven ability is that clearly that Saxon wasn’t ‘expected’ at Newmarket and therefore with expected and natural improvement he will tear this field apart.
Not happy about O’Brien flooding the field though and still haven’t forgiven him for being totally unaware what he had in the race last year when WOE won at silly prices.
Anyone who has been racing on a big day will probably know how easy it is to encounter increasing numbers of gobby, chavvy morons who can’t help themselves from either spoiling other people’s enjoyment by readily exposing as loudly as possible how stupid and annoying they are or even worse can’t wait to start a fight at the earliest opportunity …..all such behaviour aggravated more or less by over consumption of alcohol.
There is a misconception that having to wear smart clothes to race meetings can take the edge off of the kind of behaviour normally associated with football thugs but I’m afraid that Racing is becoming less and less immune to the influence of yobs and scum is still scum no matter where it goes.Intriguing to hear from AOB about how much Saxon Warrior has changed physically from 2 -3. For me that could mean that he has improved into something special or the flipside that he may have lost his ability which may have been ahead of his physical development and has stalled. We shall see………on jockey arrangements and vibes, presumably with Frankie sniffing around for better offers before settling for James Garfield I’m inclined to be somewhere towards the latter camp….hope I’m wrong.
I don’t know why Cumani has got a job on ITV Racing…she has no warmth passion, humour or opinion and sounds like she’s doing us all a favour by being there when in fact she adds absolutely nothing in terms of insight or expertise and her wooden, stuck up presenting style is like something out of the 1950s…..if she wasn’t from a Racing family and wasn’t attractive looking she would be nowhere near this gig.
Interesting to see the equally terrible ( but in different ways) Tanya Stevenson on the credits as a statistician yesterday..
March 19, 2018 at 13:44 in reply to: Fred Winter will no longer be the Fred Winter – it'll be the 'Boodles' #1347566Why would the sponsor not benefit from the race being called the Boodles Fred Winter or the Fred Winter sponsored by Boodles? Losing Fred Winter’s name from the race to any extent ironically draws less attention to the race IMO so the sponsors and racing purists all lose out.
The authorities need to be a bit bolder with this practice and hold onto the great race names whilst also making sure that the industry ( media, racecourses etc) makes sure that sponsors names get as much exposure as possible WITHOUT selling off the history of these great races.
Has anyone else noticed how much better Chapman is when he is doing punditry on the Opening Show rather than when he is either being a show off idiot in the betting ring or embarrassingly inappropriate and over familiar with people who he is interviewing on the main show.
He loves the game, has an opinion and knows his stuff and as an Opening Show contributor this comes through in a way above average fashion, but can’t someone have a word about the rest of it because it is by far the worst thing about ITV Racing ….Chapman’s dumbed down crassness ,that and the fact that ITV can’t show any replays of races without sodding about with the pictures.
Fair play to Chapman there for calling out Geraghty for letting Glenloe fiddle the last rather than committing the horse and saying that he would have won if he hadn’t then made a mistake, only for Chapman to be double gunned down by McCoy and Harvey as they do ‘the usual’ in closing ranks to protect their fellow jockey.
Hard to argue with the usually awful Chapman and no surprise that his correct view wasn’t supported.
Also,ITV Racing need to stop trying to ‘create moments’by intruding on private grief that is nobody’s business ( Davy Russell and the Jefferson stable got the mawkish treatment yesterday during interviews yesterday…cheap disrespectful and insensitive.
A chance for everyone to try and make some good out of a tragic situation if they can.
A chance to make some good out of a tragic situation.
I agree that Chapman is an excellent pundit with a genuine passion and opinion about the game but that has got nothing to do with his inappropriate, unfunny voice overs and trophy presentations. No surprise that his shockingly bad debut on DOI has resulted in the sack.
He needs to learn the lesson and stick to the punditry and forget any notion of being the comedy larger than life racing personality.
Odds on backers should take the odds that Chapman won’t last the series on Dancing On Ice…it’s the same OTT unfunny inappropriate and embarrassing nonsense …truly awful.
Chapman is above average when doing punditry or giving an opinion but get him to do a voice over or public announcement and something awful takes over.
