Chapman has been, in my opinion, rightfully criticised in recent weeks for not savouring the moment and making unnecessary comments after certain races. Today it was criticism of My Tent Or Yours attitude just after an epic finish between two of racing’s most cherished racehorses. He’d tipped The New One and seemed a little bitter that it hadn’t prevailed.
So eager to be first to comment that I think he believes he’s the main presenter. Also made a few unnecessary remarks aimed at Francesca Cumani during the summer.Great for the idiots that think it’s incredible they’re on the tv and behave like they’re back in the playground, not great for considered, intelligent coverage of the sport
December 17, 2017 at 12:07 #1332603I’m sure everyone will be as thrilled as I was to read that the awful Matt Chapman will be the commentator for the revived series of Dancing On Ice early next year.
The role was previously filled by the excellent and much missed Tony Gubba.
🙂
You really should have concluded this fine piece of satire with a Winkie, not a Smiley
Or is this ‘false news’ and/or ‘clickbait’? I know nothing
Tony Gubba was a useful jack-of-all-sports but distinctly bodge-and-scarper at all of them: a poor man’s Alan Weeks
‘Dancing On Ice’ is presumably the dark season’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. That being the case then fronting it with a rictus-grinning oaf like Chapman seem’s a marriage made in the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, particularly as he revels in toeing thin ice
December 26, 2017 at 13:07 #1334045Oh my god the start to today’s racing was cringing and awful with everyone pretending to be drunk. Who’s daft idea was that it was so pathetic and might have put a lot of people off. It certainly got me switching over to RUK.
December 26, 2017 at 14:31 #1334069Wish they would go back to the normal camera shots for the chases as that inside camera whilst giving a nice close up of the horses you don’t see the fences until they are about two strides off it – gives no perspective

That was appalling, I switched off for a while so I had some slack to wind forward when Chapman came onto my screen as well.
Some of the coverage is a little better, at least it was all in HD, but get rid of all the laddish stuff and Chapman. Some women do watch the programme too.December 27, 2017 at 18:01 #1334373Can’t say I’ve watched much of the itv coverage as I haven’t felt I’ve needed to being an RUK subscriber…
Found it a ridiculous decision by them though to go split screen and have no commentary for the start of the King George while waiting for Basford Ben to come from the clouds to win the 3.00 at Huntingdon!
I can appreciate it will be really difficult on a day like Boxing Day with so many meetings and races overlapping, but come on…it’s a no brainer…you get to the King George from the start, surely?
Annoyed me so it did!
December 27, 2017 at 19:01 #1334385Can only conclude RUK have a contract to show pictures from every race they cover live and/or end of race commentary. Otherwise daft decision.
Value Is EverythingDecember 27, 2017 at 20:23 #1334394That was appalling, I switched off for a while so I had some slack to wind forward when Chapman came onto my screen as well.
Some of the coverage is a little better, at least it was all in HD, but get rid of all the laddish stuff and Chapman. Some women do watch the programme too.… and whoever thought the circus clown Matt Chapman suitable as announcer for the King George presentation should be a job short of employment today! Chapman’s playing the A*** act on ITV Racing wore thin before the end of January.
December 27, 2017 at 20:45 #1334396Yes, I believe RUK does so it was standard procedure. RUK was done no favours by race planning and deference to terrestrial coverage, therefore, I blame the BHA! It was probably unavoidable to have a race scheduled to go off five minutes before the King George, however, it would not have taken much wit and foresight to ensure it was a 2m hurdle rather than a 3m chase. Additionally, ITV could have been asked whether it minded Kempton hanging on for a couple of minutes to wait for RUK, a favour that most courses grant RUK on a daily basis.
No consideration was given to the dedicated fan who watches racing day in and day out thus forcing us to endure a brief glimpse of Chapman frightening small children. Uncontented with such, I gather that today he presented the multiple times Champion Trainer with a white feather for choosing to run Politologue at a time that fit with the horse’s Cheltenham preparations, and when John Hales was in the country, as opposed to at Ascot when he might have encountered Un De Sceaux.
January 6, 2018 at 21:15 #1336043I haven’t tuned in to ITV or attheraces much of late, but this afternoon I unfortunately caught a glimpse of Matt Chapman’s eyebrows.
It seems to me that Chappers, when trimming said eyebrows, has been fatally enthusiastic with the trimmers. Either that or he needs to change his hairdresser. Anyway, I propose that Chapman is suspended from broadcasting on TV until his eyebrows grow back again. He remains, however, eligible to ply his trade on radio.

Probably burnt them off getting over enthusiastic about getting the Christmas Turkey out of the oven.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 7, 2018 at 20:50 #1336195Odds on backers should take the odds that Chapman won’t last the series on Dancing On Ice…it’s the same OTT unfunny inappropriate and embarrassing nonsense …truly awful.
Chapman is above average when doing punditry or giving an opinion but get him to do a voice over or public announcement and something awful takes over.
January 8, 2018 at 13:18 #1336434For those that like this type of programme, you need an over the top announcer on Dancing On Ice, therefore personally thought Chappers did a good job for a first day. Having said that, first time I’ve watched it since the first ever programme… and it’ll be the last. Bored me and couldn’t even get to the end. Not my sort of thing but that doesn’t mean Chappers did anything wrong.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 8, 2018 at 13:31 #1336436Thought ITV racings “funnies” compilation of 2017 was good, in particularly Richard Hoiles opening his commentary box window and him giving the thumbs up from the same box.
Liked the background music as well, I want you back by The Jacksons.
January 8, 2018 at 21:44 #1336537I find ITV coverage challenging compared to when it was on 4.
Simon Holt is the voice of racing, Hoiles is rubbish. Limited vocabulary. Example was in the King George he said “Double Shuffle running a mighty race” 3 times in the home straight. When he talks in the previews I mute the TV as I find his voice boring.
Don’t like Ed Chamberlin. Cant stand Francesca Cumani. Olli Bell is a bit drab. Matt Chapman is too OTT. Don’t mind Luke Harvey. Jason Weaver gets too many facts wrong. Rishi Persad, Mick Fitzgerald and Alice Plunkett are from channel 4 so BHA being 2 faced saying Simon Holt was too “channel 4” for them.
Even the music is crap, I mute that too.
Thank goodness the actual racing is good.
January 10, 2018 at 14:07 #1336753Simon monotone boring Holt will never be the voice of racing the way people go over the top for him is ridiculous.
January 10, 2018 at 18:22 #1336788After that dreadful opening to the Boxing Day show,I’m sure Simon Holt must be glad isn’t part of that dumbed down nonsense
