Regarding Armaturk, I just can’t see how anyone can him any chance at all. The only chance he has of staying 4m 4f is in a horse box.

He’s only had one race over 3m and came last of 5 beaten 39l. He did win a 4-runner event over 2m 5f in Feb 03 but apart from that his record at 2m 4f+ is 80564P32, and in the last two he was beaten 20l+. That isn’t the profile of a National winner.

Much the same goes for Fota Island whose entry looks similarly futile. I may be wrong, but I doubt it!

I like Iain Mackenzie’s commentaries although he’s not on the list. Of those on the list I think Richard Hoiles makes the best listening.

I enjoy listening to Des Scahill, the voice of Irish racing, though I wouldn’t betting a he drives some up he wall!

Derek Thompson drives me up the wall and back down the other side and off into the countryside.

Simon Holt is knowledgeable and generally a sound commentator, but has a tendency to get a little over-excited in his races.

I’m sorry, but that’s total cobblers. Jacob did his best conserve the energy on a horse which was running out of stamina. His look over the shoulder was in apprehension rather than confidence. The Listener’s tank was empty, Beef Or Salmon stuck on determinedly as he has done many times in the past.

Is it me, or does news at all levels, not just in the News Of The Screws, appear to consist of gossip, rumour, set-ups and scare-mongering these days? Sad to say that watching BBC’s early morning suggests the once respected organisation isn’t much better.

Why don’t they just go the whole hog and axe Five Live? It would save a fortune.

My wife has just looked over my shoulder and pointed out that it should be "who is" and not "whose".

    You have been told!

If presented with conclusive evidence that black is black, you would still argue it was white!

    Spot on!

    The passage,

"McDonnell, who has since passed the tape recordings to the Horseracing Regulatory Authority to be examined, has expressed his horror that such things should happen."

made me think, ‘yeah, yeah, I’m sure you were horrified!’

    Where did you here this?

If they start to charge for the database, what other options are there (apart from the Sporting Life, whose lifetime form doesn’t even say whether a horse ran in a chase or hurdle FFS)

Raceform is part of the RP, I believe – is this correct?<br>

Attheraces site gives full form, gg.com the same and Superform can be accessed for free, and I suspect there are others. Varying degrees of detail admittedly, but there’s probably enough to suit most. If all these offer data for free I’m sure there would be a few defectors if the Racing Post started charging.

Actually I do buy the Racing Post on a regular basis, simply because I’m an semi-‘old fashioned soul’ who prefers the printed version to work with.

(Waves walking stick) It’s not like it was in my day, you know!
