Which in itself probably tells what a good horse he was at his best.

In general government only reflects the failings, or otherwise, of the people.

At his best, and in this case that’s the key, there isn’t one on the list who would have lived with Captain Christy.

It’s got to be Mill House who would probably have been remembered as the outstanding horse of the 60s and 70s if it hadn’t been for ‘himself’ getting in the way!
Have to agree with Happy Jack though. I can’t see the point of making up your mind that Golden Miller and Arkle are the best and then asking for a best of the rest.
For the record, I consider Arkle the best chaser I have seen during my lifetime.

I’ll start said thread in the near future. I’ll stick to local meetings I visit and Scottish/Northern England meetings shown on Attheraces.
I notice Khachaturian is entered back in his class on Saturday at Kelso.

I was a bit bogged down with work today and didn’t get the chance to look at the runners. Unfortunately this meant I missed CHESTNUT CHARLIE cruising in at 3/1 at Downpatrick in the last.
A nice rest set him up nicely for this one. He’s a tough gelding with a good attitude and I’d like to think there’s a win or two more to come.
Hopefully one or two of you may have remembered this one.

Banned or suspended refers to riders who have committed a riding offence, and are not allowed to race ride for a certain period.
From memory I think a warning off has a clause about not being allowed on Newmarket Heath and various other specific places.

Dare I ask how many have been killed on the roads in the intervening period?
If the points being left in a dangerous state is bad, then I suggest the gaping holes in the A80 through Cumbernauld are just as dangerous, and bear in mind this section of road was only finished a couple of years. I know only two well about these bloody holes, because I hit a couple of the damned things this morning, and there WILL be accidents.
In reply to Pompete – I was under the impression that transport in Scotland was the responsibility Scottish Parliament and hence Scottish money is set aside for it. I hasten to add that I am not sure on this point.

Definitely too obsessed with Cheltenham!
The big date is April 25th, start of the Perth Festival. Bring it on!

I remember watching an experienced old campaigner, I think it was Carriage Way, win an apprentice handicap at Ayr. His rider didn’t need to touch him in the straight and he knew exactly when to make his forward move. He remembered just fine!

I didn’t learn to drive until I was 30.
It eventually dawned on me that after an evening football match, a 3 mile walk home off the 23:00 train, or an expensive taxi, was not a lot of fun!
I spent many years working every railcard I could to get cheap railfares. In one case I got the cheapest annual rail season ticket in the country(Sheffield to Attercliffe, then Manchester Piccadilly to Oxford Road) so that I could get the annual season ticket holder’s railcard. Also had a trick where, instead of getting the through saver rail ticket, it was cheaper to get a succession of day returns. I went to see Farsley Celtic play Flixton in the Northern Premier League (yes, desperately sad) and had five tickets (saving £20+), Reading-Stevenage, Stevenage-Peterborough, Peterborough-Newark, Newark-Doncaster and Doncaster-Pudsey! This trick worked fine until one of my friends travelled up to Darlington in a similar fashion, then took a train back which was fast from York to London. He got away with it but was told it was frowned upon. The rail companies closed the ticket loophole, I learnt to drive, they lost a passenger…..go figure.
The overnight coach from Edinburgh to London is handy for visiting family. A lot less hassle than a 400 mile drive.
