Ha. No more needs to be said. Keep the faith Grassy.
February 10, 2007 at 16:13 #28804A truly splendid final furlong.

An ASBO is likely to be pushed through my letterbox on Monday morning such was the noise I was making in that final furlong.

It wasn’t if you backed the listener !! What price was BOS in running approaching the last ??
February 10, 2007 at 16:40 #28807Saw the race completely different….if he had kicked on again on The Listener earlier he probably would have lost by more…was walking at the finish, was exhausted. If anything he went that little bit too quick earlier in the race.
Credit to BOS though, 10 Grade 1s is some achievement…wonderful horse. Will be taken off his feet at Cheltenham though on better ground but who cares!
February 10, 2007 at 17:20 #28808great for beef or salmon but a classic case of taking it too easy out in front by daryl jacob, lets hope he learns from his mistake.
February 10, 2007 at 17:33 #28809LOL on surprise to say I disagree with your Grassy. The Listener didn’t seem to have any more to give at the finish. If I was logged onto the exchanges I would of been half tempted to have a bet on BorS going round the home bend as he did just look to be staying on again.
my opinion was that The Listener struggled to see it out whereas Beef or Salmon could of gone round again. I am usually wrong though and probably am again. THe commentator may be a tad embarrassed too – something along the lines of Beef Or Salmon isn’t closing and its another great performance from THe listener – but Beef or Salmon is trying to stay on – ooo-er the Listener needs the line – oh **** I’ve made a cock-up and Beefy is going to get up.

I’m sorry, but that’s total cobblers. Jacob did his best conserve the energy on a horse which was running out of stamina. His look over the shoulder was in apprehension rather than confidence. The Listener’s tank was empty, Beef Or Salmon stuck on determinedly as he has done many times in the past.

February 10, 2007 at 17:37 #28811i didnt bet on the race so im not being bias!
imo it was an example of an inexperienced jockey. he should have either kept an eye on how close beef was getting, or not gone for home so far out. but hopefully he will have learnt from it.
February 10, 2007 at 17:39 #28812In truth, at this stage of their careers, Beef or Salmon is probably a little flattered to have finished in front of The Listener today. He couldn’t go with the bold-jumping grey and only really got into the race in the last 50 yds. I’d have to watch the race more closely before coming to a conclusion as to whether Jacob was at fault of whether it was a case of The Listener getting tired, but all things being equal, even Beef Or Salmon’s biggests fans won’t be in a hurry to side with him in an even money match bet against The Listener in 3m around Leopardstown.
I would hope that Hourigan doesn’t send Beef or Salmon for the Gold Cup.
February 10, 2007 at 17:57 #28813Congratulations to BOS,all credit to him but The Listener had no more to give.A fantastic effort but he wont do so well if he runs at Cheltenham.
February 10, 2007 at 18:22 #28814from an interview on at the races web site BoS almost certainly goes for the gold cup. his trainer says what has he got to lose.
in my opinion he hasnt really a hope, but with kauto star possibly scaring away oposition the field could be smaller than usual i suppose.
February 10, 2007 at 18:32 #28815I give up!
At Christmas I lumped on Beef Or Salmon, couldn’t see him beat. The Listener flattens him 8 lengths.
Today I lump on The Listener, can’t see the Beef turning the form around. Wrong again, it’s a bookies’ game!
February 10, 2007 at 19:33 #28816Absolutely unfair to place any blame on the jockey. He rode a great race and was run out of it by a top class, very game, Grade 1 horse who stays every inch of the trip and revels in the ground.
I agree with Aidan – he’d have bottomed out even sooner if he’d gone for it earlier. If you’ve no fuel left don’t you try to conserve it til you get home?
February 10, 2007 at 19:39 #28817Daryl may have gone off too quick, but i think it was made to look much worse than it was because IMO i thought Andrew Mcnamara was in the process of giving BoS a shocking ride. I kept shouting at the tele, what the **** is he doing, he’s got too much to do and he was closing and closing and i was saying "you ******** muppet, you should have sat closer to the listener!!!!"
One of those rides which looked very good but if he had been beaten half a length he would have been slated!
So glad he won though, he deserved this. I don’t rate the Listener much and can’t see how people have been backing him for the Gold Cup considering a) he doesn’t have the class and b) he needs heavy ground IMO
February 10, 2007 at 19:48 #28818what evidence was there that the listener would blow up near the end? Absolutely none, so how Daryl Jacobs could done anything else is totally beyond me.
I am interested in the difference 1st time blinkers may have made to BoS as i’m pretty sure that that may be the fastest (speed rating wise) of any of his previous wins, whilst jumping fairly well to boot.
February 10, 2007 at 19:50 #28819Blaming Jacobs is absured. Grassy he looked round at least four times there was nothing he could do his horse was running on empty.
Beef Or Salmon what a tough bugger he is. If only he journeyed well you’d swear he’d be in with a shout in the Gold Cup on soft ground.
