Would it really be the end of the world if on a big day RUK showed just the big meeting and the rest in racing review after racing?
As it stands they will have to interrupt the first day of royal ascot with the egg and spoon races from thirsk!
As for Matt Chapman,he would be perfect for the morning line.I wouldn’t want all the lesser meetings ignored and put only in the replay – what is important to one isn’t to another and if people have a bet they want to see their horse run live.
If you had all but the principal meeting behind a red button you get best of both worlds all the racing is available to you and the principal meeting gets the coverage it warrants.
The alternative is a Racing UK 2.
Matt Chapman should transfer from ATR to RUK. Like him or loathe him (I accept he’s a marmite person) he is very enthusiastic person and a good presenter who entertains.
ATR is that bad I’ve actually reverted to C4 and the dreadful Mick Fitzgerald for the Lingfield trials.

Sure they still have some knowledgeable intelligent professionals on there, presenters and pundits who come across as though their actually conscious of the fact that their broadcasting to an audience who pay a significant sum of their salaries, Hislop, Mellish, Luck, Neesom, Freemantle, Willoughby readily come to mind.
Oli Bell is their leader. Uber bore.
I would disagree entirely.
Bell has a very annoying tone but is one of their better presenters and is actually showing some signs of getting better with experience.
Willoughby is about as infantile as you can get – a child who has never grown up.
Hislop has long benefitted from being the only female presenter with any idea but that alone isn’t really good enough and the cosy ‘partnership’ with Mellish is a long way past its sell buy date.
Freemantle has recently been relieved of his Racing Post duties. I find it hard to believe it was because he was tipping too many winners. Lucky to be getting a bit of pocket money from RUK subscribers.
Luck, of course, has been broadcaster of the year for the last 20 years which doesn’t suggest the competition was particularly strong.
Neesom is the old sage. Best taken in very small doses.
I can’t believe that comment to be honest. Hyslop / Mellish is easily the best combination on any racing programme on any channel.
Pleasantly enough I get Racing UK free on Dubai Racing Channel during the Flat season, but if I was at home there’s no way I’d be paying over 300 euro a year for it anymore.

But there’s a whole raft of deadwood on there right now, broadcasting on autopilot, churning out staid race analysis, very little worthwhile (if any) opinion, formulaic interviews. The comfort zone at its finest. Deja vu television.

Too many well padded backsides there these days. Too little innovation there these days.
“The value of a thing is what that thing will bring"
I do agree with that. The likes of Hannity, Bell, Morrison, Naughton, Persad, Steedman do absolutely nothing for RUK’s coverage, they are dull and lightweight.
I always love RUK when the likes of Hislop, Mellish, Neesom, Luck, Freemantle, Howard are on. If they are not I’ll generally switch off if there is another (terrestrial) alternative.
RUK needs to ditch the dross and focus around the quality they have.
Hayley Turner (just because she’s sex on legs)
Lydia Hislop
Steve Mellish
Richard HoilesThe Lingfield Derby trial is usually a pig of a race I’m surprised it hasn’t been downgraded already.
I would’ve liked to see the Dee Stakes retain its status.
He may be a good jockey but no class. What does he call you Ian when he thinks you are not tuned in?
I’m, not really bothered what he or anyone calls me Andy. It’s not gonna kill me.
I found it very funny. You could just see Jim and Mick waiting for the camera to go off them to burst out laughing.
Someone somewhere will take offence no doubt but I just found it comical, I like Mr Moore he comes across as genuine and natural.
I am completely the opposite to the jumps people for me the proper stuff starts again with the Craven meeting.
Jumping just doesn’t do it for me these days. Even the diluted Cheltenham festival isn’t what it was. Gimme Royal Ascot, the Derby, Chester, York any day.
I will watch the "elite" jumps races but that’s about it.
Well I got that wrong. Don’t understand the Ballydoyle tactics.
Best horse by a mile won, she is obviously an incredible filly, better I think than Zarkava was.
Ian – I hope we are giving each other ‘Virtual Daggers’ at 439!
Yes, it would be nice.Secret Gesture
Ruler Of The World
Moonlight CloudI can’t see Treve getting in the frame. I think the nature and distance of the race might prove her undoing.
Al Kazeem could surprise and run a big race since the going and distance will suit him despite the bad draw and Ruler Of The World looks to have an even better chance.
Orfevre is the one who I think will win though. He doesn’t seem such an awkward ride compared to what he was last year. Definitely has the class and speed to go one better.
1st Orfevre
2nd Ruler Of The World
3rd Al KazeemI’m thinking along similar lines to you although I’m uncommitted on the third.
I have backed Ruler Of The World because I thought 12/1 was too big with cut in the ground and I think the race could be run to suit him and Ryan Moore could nick it if he gets the tactics and the fractions right. Leading Light and Ruler Of The World are drawn 5 and 6 and both will want a stamina test. I can see Leading Light making the running and Ruler Of The World getting a lead off him. Orfevre I expect will be held up (to an extent anyway) and The O’Brien pair could get first run on him.
Orfevre is the one I do expect to win though if he’s at the top of his game he’ll be hard to beat.
I don’t fancy Treve I think there are some very smart colts in this years race and she will have to be an exceptionally good filly to win this especially on soft ground.
Mosse not so good on Saturday in the G3 Superior Mile at York though. Tracked Hughes on the odds on fav Montiridge. Unfortunately Hughes’s mount wasn’t going and Mosse gave his mount to much to do in the ground.
I agree that there have been some bad flat rides this season. Hughes and Spencer overcomplicated things at Royal Ascot (Hughes at least had the good grace to own up and apologise). Spencer also gave his mount too much to do at Beverley Sat before last.
Moore tends to ride simpler races but admitted he should have won outright on Integral at Sandown.
Pundit Graham Cunningham has promised to highlight "bad rides"- let’s wait and see!Totally agree re Mosse. Tawhid is a horse that doesn’t have a turn of foot but stays well why the hell he was held up at the back of the field I will never know. Either Mosse was riding to orders or he didn’t know his horse.
Yes me. Dawn Approach hasn’t reproduced his Guineas run all season. The Derby took a lot out of him and he’s been given a hard time ever since. There is only so much any horse can take and Dawn Approach desperately needs a good break.
It was a fabulous afternoon yesterday with both Riposte and Estimate – you would need to have a heart of stone not to have been moved by either.
It’s great to see racing making the front pages for all the right reasons today.
Now the real fairytale finish will be for Disclaimer to win the Vase
And Joyeuse to win the Albany.
Fantastic day with "Sir Henry" and Her Majesty having winners. Racing needs days like this, just brilliant and so emotional.
I think their coverage has been exceptionally good, it’s been different league to what Channel 4 Racing had become over the last few years.
Praise where it’s due I think the channel has turned it’s pretty dull and feeble coverage around.
Well done and keep up the good work.
