Fair play to the three of you.
But I’m happy to spend the price of a couple of pints a week to be able to watch quality coverage of all the races from Cheltenham, Wincanton, Aintree, Wetherby, Bangor, Ludlow and Newbury.
October 3, 2009 at 12:24 #251419(especially) Peter Naughton.
Amen Equi, i’ve become very well acquainted with my mute button because of this chap, there’s only so many times i can hear the ‘professional each way bet’ or, ‘all the professionals are getting stuck into this now’ as the jolly at Catterick goes from 8/11 into 4/7.
October 3, 2009 at 12:52 #251426I’m not missing it one bit. £20 is too much for something that around a year ago cost £9.99. It’s value has not doubled in that time. You don’t pay to see the very top Group 1 or Grade 1 races – you pay to see the last races at big meetings that just drag out the day a bit more.
October 3, 2009 at 12:52 #251427Not really, I learned a while ago that i can find better things to do than watch wall-to-wall racing.
Since Sesanta expired about 6 weeks ago I’ve watched just 3 races live on the RP’s pay-to-view service, and paid for maybe a dozen replays, so from a cost perspective I can’t ever see me re-subscribing, even to the internet service.Wasting your money watching replays on the racing post. A couple of firms let you watch all replays for nothing, and usually go up by the time the next race on the card has started.(B365 & i think it might be Vic Chandler aswell)
October 3, 2009 at 13:14 #251433There’s a possibility I might re-subscribe during the jumps season but working during the week I haven’t really missed it.
Funny how people see things differently – I would happily have Naughton and ditch Willoughby who for me is by far the poorer tipster and extremely irritating to boot – no doubt those who like him think he ‘talks a good game’.
Lorna Bradburne is probably the weakest presenter on any channel.
October 3, 2009 at 13:41 #251446I thoroughly enjoy Racing UK and as I "work from home" obviously get more value than some for my £20.00 a month.
All channels have their annoying presenters and always will have – am wondering when we will get our first fully fledged horse racing HD channel.

Infact I’d hardly watched it since May for the same reason.
Re-subscribed on the 1st of October and will almost certainly unsubscribe at the end of April or May now they stipulate ‘no annual contract’. I’ve certainly got "better things to do than watch wall-to-wall racing" during the summer.
Certainly would miss RUK during the winter as an important part of my betting strategy involves the formation of my own ideas on a race/horse from the (often repeated) watching of races and then comparing them with those of the ‘market influential’ Timeform.
So £20 a month is terrific value for me as without the pictures to peruse I would feel I’m betting blind.
Only bet Steeplechases and invariably record RUK’s live output so infact it’s rarely a case of ‘wall-to-wall racing’ even at the height of the NH season.
Though when the gales blow, the rain is horizontal, the wind-chill hovers around zero and it’s twilit at 3.30 I’m more than content to spend my afternoons snuggled-up with Nick and Lydia.
Huntingdon tomorrow and presumably the entertaining franglais of Claude Charlet wishing he was at leafy Longchamp rather than stuck on the featureless plains of East Anglia.
Bring it on
October 3, 2009 at 13:51 #251453I subscribe to free replays which is fine for me with work during the week so im more than happy with it.
ATR do a good Friday service with Dundalk and Wolverhampton which is a decent niche market to promote Friday night racing.
Still maintain RUK should move in with ESPN so they can show top US races and ESPN can showcase top UK races in the US market.
October 3, 2009 at 13:56 #251454Call me Thick but i didn"t know there was any difference from the old RUK to the one i now pay £20 a month for! Lydia still flirts with Steve Mellish,Nick Luck still knows everything and Mark Howard is still as scary! whats changed?

October 3, 2009 at 15:24 #251468I miss it – quality TV for the most part – but I’ll be renewing after the Swinton. One warning: I want more previews and editorial next flat season for my score and I want RUK to investigate resurrecting the partnership with HRTV in the States.
October 3, 2009 at 15:25 #251469I’m another who dug my heels in.
I was getting Setanta free as part of my Virgin XL package, and I’m not paying another £20 a month to watch Racing UK, no matter how many letters they send me.
I still get to watch the races I’m interested in on Betfair’s live video feed.October 3, 2009 at 19:58 #251511I gave up trying to prove to them that I had paid Setanta 4 12 months upfront!!! Getting a DreamBox next week so I am hoping to watch those upper class types without contributing to Lord Snooty’s moat cleaning!
October 3, 2009 at 20:02 #251513Neil:
Your ESPN plan would not work. ESPN gives practically no time to live horse racing whatsoever. You can count on the fingers of one hand the races they have shown live since May and still have fingers left over when you consider most of those were shown on ESPN2 which does not come with every cable package.
The same is true of Network TV. There is no interest here in showing domestic racing. There should be, but there is not and when there is the talented people are drowned out by the need to show silly stuff with the crowd and celebrity interviews and such like.

Mind me asking but what is this TVG Network thingy that BF have bought?
What racing channels are available in the US which compare to ATR or RUK?
Cheers
Honker
October 3, 2009 at 21:14 #251525Its a good question and like Ted I have held out after the virgin xlpackage
Its pretty poor stuff that RUK is not appealing or being missed by those on a forum such as this.
I also agree with Reet. You could also end up watching it for the sake of it and wasting a fair bit of time.
On the other hand, miss Mellish and Lydia and did like the quality of presentation
Have found C4 less painful to return to than expected
April 25, 2012 at 16:31 #21624According to the Racing UK tv listings Gordon Brown is one of the presenters when Kelso is on next week so looks like he has jumped ship.
