Mind you, I fancy the chances of another three or four in this eleven runner field

A photo of Gingers van and now this. I wonder if Ricky thinks you’ve cloned the tipster…….

Wouldn’t surprise me, mate
October 27, 2013 at 12:16 #456373I am completely the opposite to the jumps people for me the proper stuff starts again with the Craven meeting.
Jumping just doesn’t do it for me these days. Even the diluted Cheltenham festival isn’t what it was. Gimme Royal Ascot, the Derby, Chester, York any day.
I will watch the "elite" jumps races but that’s about it.

zzzzzzThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 17, 2013 at 00:23 #458707No luck at the Open for you guys yet then?
Still got one last stab at it later. A guy down the boozer reckons that both of Pipe’s charges should be backed EW in the Greatwood to secure a profit… not sure I believe him, mind.I managed to find a nice one at HQ today but my Killer bet was at Uttoxeter, he’s a good lad and has one at HQ in the first but not the easiest one to predict the outcome of.
Good luck guys

November 17, 2013 at 10:06 #458723Ah the much overrated Brocklesby. Didn’t a decent horse run in it about 45 years ago? Now it is about as memorable as a dud firework.

From Wikipedia:
Originally run as an all-age 1 1/2-mile race at the now defunct Carholme racecourse in Lincoln between 1849 and 1874 the Brocklesby moved to Doncaster in 1965, where it appears on the same card as the Lincolnshire Handicap, also previously run at Carholme. Arguably the best horse to win the race was Donovan, in 1888.[3] Donovan went on to win the Epsom Derby and the St Leger in 1889. In recent times, it has been won by top class horses including Prix de l’Abbaye winner Deep Diver, Provideo and Hearts of Fire.
It’s the nice throaty and woody name that endears it to many I reckon. Hasn’t been first race on the Flat for many years and as far as I can glean seemed to have disappeared altogether this year, unless the nasty tinny and plasticky name bet365 Maiden Stakes run at the second Doncaster meeting on April 13th is its new Ben-friendly moniker
Indocine’s cutting would appear to be from around 1970: dear old Johnny Seagrave, blimey long forgotten
£2500 added to stakes then, £2900 to the winner in 2013

Drone, the clipping was 1977, the winner was trained by the Barnstaple butcher. Apart from the prize money you comment on, weights are up 6lb since then, fillies are allowed in now. Also, interesting to see them retain their 5 day decs number.
November 17, 2013 at 11:59 #458738As late as that. Thought Geoff Lewis and Frankie Durr had retired by then but fading memories do plays tricks
If fading memory does serve Tony Newcombe ‘learnt his trade’ at CJ Hill’s
Horsemeat has always been popular in heathen North Devon

Is M Hill same family? Common name but Devon connection.
November 17, 2013 at 13:01 #458757Ah, another memory rekindled. M Hill and CJ Hill were discussed on TRF some years ago:
