Jamie Osborne might like to have a little think about the culture that results in female jockeys getting abuse that has an added dimension to the abuse male jockeys get. Male jockeys get “I hope you die” , females get “I hope you get raped and die”.
For example – part of a Marcus Armytage piece in the Telegraph a few months ago:
“In 2022, female jockey Saffie Osborne – who is still only 23 – was threatened on Twitter with a message saying: ‘“U stupid f—ing whore, U need raping and beating to death U slut, die you little b—h.”Plain weird , 58 year old bloke doing that , and a father of a young daughter as well. At least he has taken his punishment with good grace , and appears remorseful .
Good grief. Bad enough that females in racing have to deal with the crass (& often threatening) comments from inadequate coked-up knuckle-draggers in the crowd & on social media without the trainers (employers) joining in. We really do have a long way to go.
Osborne’s raffish, laddish routine has always been very unappealing.
He is quite fortunate this matter has been dealt with in house. If he misbehaved in that manner on a train, he would be breaking the law and could be prosecuted.
What was he thinking? Just trying to figure out how stupid his excuse was about the now defunct WhatsApp chat group.
I wonder if this is the end of the affair or more women will claim to have been photographed by him in the same manner.
It’s just incredible how Racing comes up with a new negative story almost every week.I’m sure the owners of any of the horses running that day for Osbourne are thrilled that his mind was on the job at hand … If a 18 year old did that your think them immature and stupid , at 58 it’s actually pathetic and very creepy , it’s a shame someone there didn’t give him a clout

Having denied it to start with I would have thought they should have given a punishment with a bit more bite. 3 month ban from racecourses perhaps. Give him time to mull it over at home and send a more mature minded individual to represent him on course.
Seemed odd he wanted to explain about the WhatsApp group like that made it better. Hint – it made it worse.
I’m not condoning what he has done but I’m failing to see what he did to warrant a suspended ban. He took a photo with the intention of posting it on a site for such things now if he had done this then it could have been deemed defamatory but he did not.

Question: If you’re at a racecourse and watching the horses in the paddock would it be inappropriate to you if the TV cameras would show you from behind including your clothed bottom? I mean where do you draw a line? How long should you be allowed to look at a person’s bottom before they can take you to court?

You are pretty free to photograph what you like in a public place that includes children. Just imagine how many photographs were taken that day and posted in various online platforms. I doubt a case like this would even make it to court unless he did upload it somewhere and the individual claimed it was defamatory.The more I know the less I understand.

I wonder how he would feel if it was someone else doing the exact same thing but with his daughter and/or his wife being one of the women photographed in that manner?
Have to say that I am not massively surprised by him being involved in this type of incident just disappointed (especially in this day and age) that he didn’t seem to think it was just flat out wrong to be doing this.
He does rather come across as an individual that has a rather laddish/juvenile type of mindset at times where he wouldn’t think this type of behaviour is anything but just having a bit of laugh and done for nothing more than sh*ts and giggles.
