Outback runners , best out the back runner this weekend was Gold Trip , drawn car park , flew home , as theh say in OZ and NZ ” brained em ” in Turnball . Imho Jamie Spenser was superb on West Wind Blows , trapped bit wide , realised early pace slow and rolled forward without burning too much gas then settled WWB again in great position , unlucky to meet Gold Trip in red hot form .
As for Gordonvale Cup , Brazil bred Olympic Korchnoi got head in front , dodged the vets knife in HK but the Ozzies got his bits off and hes on the winnibg trail again .Night of Power midfield .
Bulletin got a run at Eidsvold , went out at 21 s , midfield . Theres somethibg still left in him , he could nab one at odds .Parish Centre , Parish Green ,same age , same connections , both maidens, both no mention of vet issues in comments in running last run . Sad coincidence .
Jamie Spencer riding West Wind Blows at Flemington tomorrow , he has outridden the home jocks a few times in OZ . Hoping he does same tomorrow , Romantic Warrior from HK will be tough to roll though .
McFarlane back in Tuesday as well , this time on turf at Barcaldine .He looks a lost cause but trainer has the faith , if you cannot win a maiden give up and jump to handicaps , worth a try I suppose . Gut feeling is it won’t work .
Looked up Barcaldine according to one website it’s most famous resident is a Tree !!!Gold Coast currently racing just on AWT as the turf course is completely re built .
They had a promo event on beach day or so before this years MM race , two horses lost their jockeys , ran off crossing tram lines , went down busy highways past cars and ended up down a residential street few kms away unharmed .Night of Power goes this weekend at Gordonvale , near Cairns , 1700 KMs from Brisbane . In the Gordonvale Cup , also in the field is Olympic Korchnoi who was second in the Brazil Derby a few years back .
Night of Power won three times for John Oxx between 2017 and 2018 , he’s done well in middle range handicaps for a few years in Sydney before being sold up north and not the horse he was anymore . Gordonvale looks a nice little turf track .
Bulletin is in on the dirt at Dalby also in Queensland but is on the ballot and needs three to come out .According to media , Vauban and Adsurde both arrived in good order and have had a quiet spin around Werribee training track .
Vauban just needs to stay injury free , at this stage imho its looking like weak field , Mullins will never have a better chance .
Ive got Emissary each way at 51s and 13s for small stake , ran second last year , ran nice race second up , no weight . 36th in order entry but some real deadwood above not going to pay up next stage . He is in weekend so rolled dice as he runs well again he will come right im .
Turnball and Bart Cummings both at Flemington Saturday will really give Spring a good sort out.Was scrolling though the HIT lots today , lot 1065 Greek Order , if he does go through whoever gets him will need deep pockets . Only looks like upside to him .
Tremblant 1985 Cambridgeshire for Juddmonte
Next day Rainbow Quest Arc for Juddmonte
5.30 Longchamp today Tremblant again for Juddmonte .
MacFarlane 9th of 9 .Still not beaten a runner home . Was beaten 16 lengths first up on poly , 18 lengths on dirt yesterday , might be try on turf next .
25 years since I went to Happy Valley but they did have a system whereby if you turn up at the course in the days prior to racing , or the morning you could show your passport as a tourist and get a day member ticket rather than public enclosure . Will likely all be online now I suppose . A very good night out .
Mr Waterville fronts up today in the Metrop at Randwick . Off the minimum and well into the long handicap at least 2400 will suit him better , gone okay first two races this prep over distances way too short . By my calculations cost about 815000 AUD , has earnt 11000 , first prize today 750000 odd so a win will take a chunk out of that .
Just Fine ex Royal horse looks thrown in on weights though , and got great draw .Everytime I see Aqueduct or Belmont at the Big A as it is at the moment I think of Pebbles and Pat Eddery threading a path up the rails . Big field , hooked back and steady progress up the rails . Still love rewatching that race from time to time .
I remember seeing a bit on TV about the Japan Cup . The crowd build up outside early , when gates open it’s like Olympic 100 metres with mad dash to get a spot for day .
As well as the JRA circuit , there’s the NAR circuit with a lot of evening meetings under lights so you could double up .
As for Kyoto I remember him , Iam sure John Francome rode him to significant winner once , maybe it was just 100 for season once , sure it’s something though . I recall he would go round few times a week early on in season . John Jenkins website has a great photo of him in full flight .Thanks Coggy , I have looked through the bush tracks for years just out of interest so takes no time .
Had a look at Jundah last night on you tube , it seems best plan is find the lead early or eat dust . Got to get the rails and have couple lengths on them turning in , seems to work most times there .This weekend , Jundah races , 1100 KMs from Brisbane , dirt track , surrounded by dust and termite mounds . Population 2016 census 106 . Appearing in maiden race for his second start MacFarlane , lot 6 book 1 October Tatts yearling sales 2021 .By Frankel out of Emanently . Now gelding , Mick Price gave up on him after one run 11 of 11 at Pakenham in July .
Fair to say the plans didn’t pan out for winning bidder .Always liked My Prospero . Got that little bit of form early in career with some give in ground so reasonable versatile . Just checked Ladbrokes Australia for QE2 price in April at Randwick but not listed , might see what they offer , William Haggas cleans up there that time year . Lightly raced , bit of class he must be huge chance if he sends him over . His half brother My Oberon has earnt hundreds of thousands for new owners in Australia . He’s in Epsom Handicap weekend ,500k first price , unlucky as drawn car park , still good EW bet but needs luck in running .
Looking forward to seeing Maljoom back in next few days too .Robbie Dolan , the singing jockey . Appeared on The Voice in OZ .
My gut feeling is when he Xd or tweeted that he had not seen the photos or the other background on the race . He cannot have surely as if he had he looks foolish .
He will know full well you do that in OZ you are on sidelines for months .- AuthorPosts
